“Exceeded all expectations!” Can't rate this place highly enough- very tastefully decorated and well outfitted with everything to make for a very comfortable stay. Setting is peaceful and outlook over the vines just beautiful. All the little extras Wendy provides- daily newspaper, gourmet provisions for breakfast, home grown produce just adds to the wonderful experience of staying here. We will be back!

“A Home away From Home!” For our vacation in NZ, we were searching for places to stay that would provide us a good home base where we could be largely self-supported, by cooking our own meals and having more privacy than a hotel. What we got at Mapua Heights was that and much more! The cottage itself was spectacular, with a gorgeous view looking over the Nelson area (amazing sunrises and sunsets!). In fact, it was such a nice, homey place to stay that we occasionally had trouble justifying going out and seeing the sights. Luckily, our wonderful hosts who lived nearby, Ken and Vivien, provided all the information and suggestions for the entire area, and helped us plan our great trip out and about. With Ken and Vivien's hospitality, we felt very much at home, as we would with a pair of good neighbors not too far away! The part that stood out the most was that our hosts allowed us to see what their lives were like as much as we wanted. Ken and Vivien were gracious enough to show us what animals they have on their property and use their kayaks in the nearby inlet. We got to help them sheer their sheep, feed their deer, tour their awesome glowworm colony, and learn about the honey harvested from their bee colonies. I highly recommend Mapua Heights Cottage for those looking to get a more intimate experience with the Nelson area than most hotels and lodges can provide. There were no downsides, and we won't do it any differently when we (hopefully) return one day. Thanks Ken and Vivien!

Karaka Cottage at The Apple Pickers' Cottages, Mapua-Nelson
Bronte cottage

“Beautiful cottage, magic location” We had a fabulous stay at Karaka Cottage. The cottage is lovely - it has everything you could need and is beautifully furnished - a very stylish 'kiwi bach'. The location on the estuary at Mapua is stunning too - totally tranquil, but still close enough to everything (a couple of minutes to the wharf at Mapua, which has some good places to eat) and about a 20 minute drive back to Nelson. It's also on the way to abel Tasman of course - but we were just in the mood to relax, so were quite happy just to enjoy the cottage surrounds. The outside bath was amazing, with just the sound of the many estuary birds for company in the evening. Just perfect! And in the morning, the sun streamed in from across the water - which was gorgeous on a late winter morning. (the cottage is very warm in the winter too - has a great wood burner). Thanks so much - we'll definitely be back!

“What makes a good holiday.” Trying to determine where to stay when planning a holiday is extremely hard when you have never been to a spot. Mary & Peter's was like finding a winning loto ticket in your pants pocket. It is a new place and they have all the added touches such as big screen TV, Movies, Stereo, BBQ and the best of all the most magnificent view you could ever want. We actually felt that we did not have to leave the unit as you could never get a better view and the sun was shining the entire time. They have added a great deal of personal touches to the place that make it a pleasure to stay at. Your hospitality was outstanding and there is nothing negative we could ever add to this experience. Gentlemen this is the place to take your partner for a nice glass of wine and sit on the balcony and watch the view.

“Extremely comfortable stay with magnificent views over lake Waka” Thank you Kristen for a very comfortable stay in your beautifully positioned townhouse. Your views are truly magnificent over Frankton arm & The Remarkables. Our stay was very comfortable and we felt like it was our home away from home, albeit only for one week. We would certainly contact you again on return visits to Queenstown. Many thanks Ian & Di MacMillan

“Fabulous cottage, great views, and wonderful hosts!” We had an initial worry about connecting with the hosts but in a short time Jessie arrived and let us in. She had been on a trip with the Department of Conservation and even gave us some blue cod they caught for our dinner. The apartment is great, nice kitchen and shower, very comfortable bed and even laundry facilities. The one slight drawback was the difficulty of connecting to the internet, which one could only do in one place and that intermittently. However we found this to be true in most of our places we stayed in NZ, probably because it is all so mountainous and underpopulated. Nonetheless a really gorgeous country, friendly people, and excellent trip over all.

“A Fabulous Place” On arrival we received the warmest of greetings from our fabulous host Jenny and Graham, who then left us in luxurious peace, only to reappear again to offer full and warm assistance on departure. The accommodation was faultless. Jenny's thoughtful touches though out the apartment immediately put us into holiday mood, and we wanted for nothing. Our only concern was the steepness of the access to the apartment, and no off street parking.

“Great place to stay.” Loved the place. We spent 3 nights at Karetu Downs with our 3 children. The farm cottage is fantastic, roomy, warm and has a great kitchen. Bruce and Karen were very friendly and welcoming. Perfect spot for our horses, to stay and ride. As the river was up our kids also had fun in their kayaks. Not far from home, but far enough away for a decent break.

“What a refreshing, adventurous time it was at the Aoraki Cottage” The cottage was a great location for us to drive to outdoor tourist scenery, including Mr. Cook and the Lord of the Rings filming backdrops and snowboarding/skiing. What a blast! We also enjoyed simply relaxing at the cottage. A couple of days we preferred to sleep in, make breakfast, walk around the spectacular farm, and wind down in the spa. It surpassed our hopeful expectations, and we were thrilled to spend our honeymoon at the Aoraki Cottage.
