Description

The house stands out in this traditional Koskinou street with its impressive old stone gate, high walls and its old wooden door. The door leads into the courtyard of this authentic stone village house dating back to 1906. For decades the house was beloved in Koskinou for being the place to get married. The pebbled floor is an old mosaic of flowers and hearts these are also present in the ironwork of the entrance gate. Yiorgos Stavridis renovated this house in 2014 using only eco-friendly material and old techniques to combine the charm of the past and the comfort of the present.

The house is located in one of the small streets of the old village centre of Koskinou. You can stroll through the narrow streets, shop for your groceries, meet the elderly sitting on their doorsteps or eat in one of the many restaurants, while the children are running around freely.

Let us now open the door for you and invite you in.

As you enter the pebble stone courtyard through the wooden door, you see that the house has an L-shape. Inside the courtyard you are private behind the high walls as soon as you close the door. The courtyard is spacious with over 30 m2 and faces south so the sun shines brightly into the patio. The large handcrafted wooden pergola offers plenty of shade to sit, dine and relax under. A big table, benches and chairs seat easily 10 people and the build-in barbeque allows you to create your own wonderful dishes. Sunbeds on the rooftop can warm you up and the outside shower in the patio can cool you down.

On the left side after entering the courtyard you find the old washhouse. Next summer we will renovate it into an extra bedroom and a bathroom for 2 more people, but for now it is closed. The stairs between the pergola and the washhouse lead onto the roof of the whole building. On the roof you can look over Koskinou, see the ocean and feel the wind in your hair.

Under the pergola the main door is decorated with greek style stone carvings and leads you to the large living room (sala). Once you are inside, you will find another special feature of this house. There are large windows on both sides of the house. In comparison to other traditional houses, it creates extra natural light and a feeling of brightness and openness throughout the house.

The spacious open plan sala has the large stone arch (Kamara) supporting the original rustic wooden beam ceiling, and is decorated with the original and renovated furniture. The typical build-in wooden platforms or bankas, the beautiful hand carved wood work and traditional cupboards stand out. One high raised banka is remodelled as a lounge with big pillows, cable TV, DVD and free high speed wireless Internet. Your kids will love it. Under this banka you will find a walk-in closet to store your clothes, suitcases and personal belongings. On the other banka is the first of six beds in this house. Please note that this house is more suitable as a family home due to the layout.
