Getting around

In the north of Portugal, the county of Arcos de Valdevez, the granaries of the village of Soajo are steep and one of the biggest attractions of this region. The village is one of the most typical of the country. The Socio Community of the Soajo is composed of 24 granaries. Imposing, they are situated on the top of giant stones (slabs of granite) overlooking the mountains and hills. One of the oldest is dated 1782, that is, show a long history and longevity - but even so, the oldest are in excellent condition. The granaries were (and still are) used to dry the corn. They stand in high places and are placed on stones, even higher ... why? So that the animals did not eat the cereals.
