Description

The House on the Hill is a beautiful stone-built cottage on a hill farm in the Scottish Borders. This old shepherd's house is modern & cosy, has a superb kitchen, huge lounge & a stunning rural location. The house next door, the Little House on the Hill, is also available.

The Space:

The House on the Hill is available for up to four people on a self catering basis. The house is part of Hillhouse farm in the Scottish Borders which is also home to a few thousand sheep. The Sutherland family have farmed here for over 50 years across 3 generations. It's a fantastic place - sitting high on the hills overlooking Lauderdale it really does have tremendous views.

The House on the Hill is an old shepherd's house but it's been refurbished recently so now you'll find it to be modern & cosy. It also has a superb farmhouse-style kitchen, huge lounge, large bedrooms and two bathrooms (one of which is en suite) plus a downstairs loo. This is a really spacious house so you won't feel like you're living in each other's pockets, but it's also somewhere we hope you will feel immediately at home in.

The house next door, the Little House on the Hill, is also available - it has virtually the same facilities as the House on the Hill but all with slightly cosier proportions! There are interconnecting doors between the two houses which we unlock if both properties are being rented by one party. The Little House on the Hill can, of course, also be rented completely separately.

Guest Access:

Guests have access to the cottage, its garden, and the freedom to roam right across Hillhouse farm. We also have a full-size tennis court which is available for guest use.

Other Things to Note:

If you don't fancy cooking during your stay, there is a perfect option about a mile from the house at Carfraemill (restaurant).

Getting around

A car will give you the most flexibility for exploring the area. However, if you might not need one if you're coming for a short break of walks on the farm and relaxing in the cottage. You can usually order a home delivery of shopping from Tesco or Sainsburys.

Interaction with guest

The cottage is very much yours for the duration of your stay - we'll likely say hello when you arrive, and other than that please just call in at the farmhouse, or give Jo a ring, if you've any problems or need info.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.
