O Lugar de Baixo, situado a cerca de 1 km da vila da Ponta do Sol, é conhecido pelo seu excelente clima (o melhor da ilha), pela sua calma e tranquilidade, pelos contrastes entre o verde dos bananais e o azul do mar, pela sua praia e localização estratégica (centro da ilha).
Possui elementos do património arquitetónico da ilha de grande valor, como por exemplo o ‘Palacete do Lugar de Baixo’, que nos encanta pelo seu estilo romântico, envolvência natural e pela sua capela anexa.
Outro espaço de referência é a Lagoa situada de mãos dados com o mar. Esta é a única lagoa de maré existente no arquipélago da Madeira, e por isso apresenta uma enorme riqueza e biodiversidade. Assim, é o ‘lar ideal’ para muitas espécies de aves migratórias, que recorrem a esta lagoa para nidificar ou como ponto de paragem, tais como: a garça-branca-pequena (egretta garzetta) e o galeirão-comum (fulica atra).
