Description from owner

Description

With a beautiful location set below the small, medieval hill village of Sorana, this is a traditional stone farmhouse retaining all the usual beautiful Tuscan features of cotto floors, chestnut beams and an open fireplace.

Outside there are private olive groves for the children to play in, a terrace for al fresco dining, BBQ for outdoor cooks and a pool for cooling off in the glorious summer days - all with spectacular views of the Pescia valley. Two of the best restaurants in the area are just down the road or there is further fine dining in and around the local town of Pescia, less than 15 minutes drive away

Open all year around, this house offers a quiet retreat from which to explore the surrounding hills on foot to local villages such as Vellano, Castelveccio, Fibialla or Medicina.

Further details

There is a 300m walk from a car park through the village and down a path to get to the door, which is a little steep in places. Whilst this makes for a quiet and private location it means access would be difficult for elderly, infirm or disabled guests

Further details indoors

The accommodation is on two floors with the kitchen, shower room and one lounge/bedroom downstairs and the master bedroom and second lounge/bedroom upstairs

The main bedroom has a king size bed with chest of drawers. wardrobe and air conditioning unit whilst the upstairs second room has a large stone grate with cast iron fire, large sofabed and cabin bed. Downstairs, the lounge has a sofabed and is also equipped with an air conditioning unit.

The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils and pans, with a 5 ring gas bottle-powered cooker complete with oven. There is also an under-house storage room which contains the garden furniture and washing machine

Further details outdoors

The house is part of a working olive farm so the groves are open and available for exploration, although care should be taken down some of the steep slopes. There is also a hand-built stone barbecue and outside dining area, ideal for summer evening cooking and eating outside. The pool is a 15ft by 8ft plunge pool, perfect for cooling off during the long hot Tuscan summer days.

Getting around

Florence is about an hour and a half’s drive, if you want to risk the hairy Italian city traffic or the rail link from Pescia is regular and reliable and will allow you to take in the scenery across the rolling north Tuscan hills

Interaction with guest

You will be met on arrival by our local management team who will help you down the hill with your bags and show you around the house Then all you have to do is decide how you will spend your time - eat and drink at the house or in the local restaurants or venture further afield - there is a guest folder in the house with many suggestions on what to do or where to go

“A beautiful Tuscan retreat”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2014

Our stay at Casa Della Vista was just wonderful - we found this lovely, rustic farmhouse to be the perfect place to relax and experience life in Tuscany. We were helped from our hire car to the house with our bags by Chris, who was really friendly and welcoming and gave some great advice on things to do and see in the region (as Kevin had via email prior to our arrival too). When we reached the house and saw the view we were amazed - breathtaking is really the word - and we immediately settled in to the house itself. It was exactly the kind of place we were after - somewhere a little off the beaten track; somewhere to really get away and relax, and somewhere to properly get a feel for Tuscany. As others have said, the people in the village and the wider region are so friendly; and we just loved the local restaurant Sandrino's - incredible food with such delicious local ingredients (definitely try the local beans and mushrooms!). We had day trips all over, to Lucca, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, wine tasting in the Chianti Valley...all an easy drive away. And we had several days just enjoying the view and the peace and quiet right outside the house itself. It's a wonderful place to enjoy a holiday, highly recommended.

“Outstanding views, charming cottage and great for relaxing!”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

After a short drive from Pisa airport made easy by very clear directions, no need for a sat nav, we were met on arrival by Chris who was really helpful in getting us and our bags to the cottage. The cottage itself was located just beneath the main village so enjoyed privacy which was really welcome but also had the most fantastic views on three sides with day long sunshine. The cottage although small, contained all the essential things for a holiday, As life is best lived outside, then the barbeque and the pool were the most important to us. On the nights we didn´t barbeque there was Sandrinos Tratoria, a short walk down the hill. Atillo cooks fantastic authentic Tuscan food in a welcoming restaurant, the wild boar is recommended. In the village itself was a small bar and again the welcome here was fantastic and the wine cheap! Many days were spent relaxing, floating in the pool, sun bathing or sitting under the olive tree reading a book but on days when we felt more energetic there was lots to do. Firenze was a 1 hr train ride away from Pescia but also Lucca is a beautiful and less busy town. Otherwise there are many local villages along the valley tucked away, with small bars where you can just wile away the hours. Overall, a stay here is a relaxing break away from the crowds soaking up the Tuscan lifestyle. We would definitely recommend it to like minded people who want to experience the real Tuscany and we would love to return. Many thanks, Gerdientje and James

Response from the owner Many thanks for your kind words. We try to make little improvements every year to our lovely house but, in the end, it is the Tuscan scenery, lifestyle and hospitality that wins people over, just as you mentioned in your review. Hope to see you again soon!

Response from the owner You were our first booking for this year when you contacted us nearly a year ago, so we are very glad the wait was worth it! Many people have said how underpriced they thought the property is but we have always felt, like you, that once word gets out about how wonderfully peaceful and tranquil it is at the house the place will sell itself. Your review can only help that process so thank you very much I agree with you about the availability of information at the house and this is something we have provided many times but guests tend to forget, sometimes, to put the leaflets and brochures back in the ring binder in the house! At the moment, our plan is to expand the coverage of our website www.tuscanywinetours.co.uk to provide links to local attractions or activities. There is already a banner link on the site displaying information about events in and around Pistoia province. More to come later this year Finally, we have just received word that the local authority has given us permission to improve the path so we will be installing steps down the initial part to provide easier access. It's been a struggle but we are finally nearly there! Many thanks again for the review

“Breathtaking Italian Escape”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2013

Being the usual hustle and bustle holiday type, for our next holiday we wanted something a little bit different. We wanted to experience a more relaxed and cultural holiday for a change. After viewing a few different types of accommodation in various locations, we finally decided that Casa Della Vista was what we had been looking for. We contacted the owner, who I might add was very informative and helpful at every stage. He supplied us with a wealth of local information, from places to visit, eat, sightseeing opportunities, detailed directions to the property, and much more. This filled us with every confidence that our holiday choice had been the right one. We hired a car from Pisa airport, and began our journey towards Sorana. The owner had told us about the supermarket ‘Esselunga’, in Pescia, which is the nearest town to Sorana where we would be staying, so we stopped off en route to get some necessities before continuing on. When you arrive at the village of Sorana and park the car, there is a short walk to the property. As you approach the farm house, you walk around the side of the property, and WOW! In front of you is one of the most jaw dropping views we feel we have ever come across. I will never forget that first glimpse. The tiered landscape of olive groves immediately in front of you, looking down over the forest covered valley, another small Italian village over the valley to your left, with a few other singular properties dotted on the landscape, sun shining over the mountain tops, this is perfection. Every morning, the first thing we would do was take another look at that view, just to make sure we didn’t imagine it. Moving on to the accommodation, as we were a couple, I can say that the house was plenty for us, with all the requirements that one should need for our truly rustic Italian holiday. Every room was spotless when we arrived. Upstairs is an excellent master with a huge comfy bed and ample storage space, the second bedroom housed a log burning fire, if only it was cold just for one night so we could use it. Moving downstairs we have the shower room / toilet which again was spotlessly clean, but watch the water it does get very hot, the lounge which contains a very fluffy rug and comfy sofa, and the kitchen, which had all the requirements that we needed in the form of a gas hob/oven, fridge freezer, kitchenware etc, and to our surprise, tap water that is fed from a fresh spring further up the mountain, perfect for drinking. We settled in straight away to our surroundings, and as I mentioned above, this was not our usual type of holiday. As we had the hire car we took the opportunity to sight see as much as we could, and after some long days of exploration, the pure relaxation of returning to our farm house with a view. As others, we also dined at Sandrino’s, which if you are reading the reviews, you will know by now it is at the bottom of the hill, and we can to confirm that the food here is second to none. They offer great hospitality, with a great selection of top quality Italian food, at a very good price, and worth every penny. May we also recommend that you try the prosecco that they have on offer as this too is very nice indeed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Della Vista, we will definitely be back in the future. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
