“Fabulous cosy cottage”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2018

We had a lovely stay at doonans cottage- very spacious and warm and well equipped, perfect after a day out exploring the local area. Even a wood burner with logs etc provided. Also nice welcoming touches like milk and tea. As there are a few different places to stay on the estate they are close together but this did not affect us at all. The estate is environmentally aware too. Fabulous place to stay - we will be back!

“Lovely comfortable cottage in beautiful location but somewhat lacking in privacy”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2013

A spotlessly clean and comfortable cottage with large kitchen and all the mod cons. Spacious and carpeted throughout, except in the kitchen and bathrooms. Well tended grounds with walks on the property, a river, pine forest, children's play park, pond and playing field. Surrounded by farms with sheep, horses and cattle. Quiet area, away from any street noise, but relatively short drive to nearby village, towns, the coast and wonderful walks in nearby forest park. Overall, we loved our stay, it was very restful. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Our dog was welcome, although had to be on the lead at all times because of the proximity of farm animals. On the down side, something that isn't evident from the picture, is that this cottage is sandwiched between the owner's house on one side and another holiday property on the other. The conservatory windows from the main house look directly into the cottage's kitchen windows with maybe a 2m gap in between the properties, and on the other side, the Lodge, has a large deck with a perfect view down into the Doonans Cottage living room and master bed room windows. There is also another cottage on the property, Foxglove, the path to which passes right past the other kitchen window and ensuite window. There are no fences or hedges around the cottage. The picnic table was on the other side of the property than shown in the picture, in the back courtyard of the owner's house, which is also the car park for the main house, Doonan's cottage and Foxglove cottage. There is a steep hill leading up to the Lodge behind, so while trying to enjoy a glass of wine at the picnic table (with our and the neighbours cars as the other guests at the table), we found ourselves in the firing line of all types of ball games which were happily taking place in front of the Lodge. There is no phone in the cottage or mobile phone reception, wifi reception only in the living room.
