Additional Location Information

The old peasant’s house made of stone, located at Casas Velhas, 12 Km from Tomar, has been carefully restored to keep its rustic appearance. Decorated with some family and typical furniture, charm and simplicity. Nice neighbours nearby, in a peaceful place where you can feel the purity of the air and enjoy nature. If you like sports, you may walk along the rural paths, visit the pre-historical caves a few Km away or swim in the transparent waters of the natural pool of Agroal... If you just want to rest in a familiar and cosy place, there you are: garden, patios, swimming-pool (from the 1rst June to the 30th September).

Tomar is the heart of Portugal. It’s a small town, once ruled by the Templar Knights. Prince Henry, the Navigator, prepared Portuguese Discoveries there. Today, it’s a small central town 90 minutes from Lisbon ,60m from Coimbra, 15 minutes away from Ourém, 35 minutes from Fátima. The historical interest of the place is far beyond the Convento de Cristo and the castle, classified World Patrimony of the Humanity. It’s a real pleasure to walk along the narrow streets of the old quarter, to visit the ancient Jewish synagogue, the churches, the town Hall, the main place. Crossed by the romantic Nabão river, you can find several beautiful, fresh and quiet gardens. It’s a traditional town, where you can still find some old shops and objects. There is a weekly market held every Friday, where you can buy almost anything, from fresh vegetables and fruit to clothes, shoes, ceramics, furniture, flowers... Gastronomy and wines are excellent and events like the Soup Congress (May) and The Beans Week (October) are a real success. But the main event is Festa dos Tabuleiros, held every four year in honour of The Holy Spirit since Middle Ages. It’s unique in the world. Don’t miss next one, in July 2015.
