About Amed

Amed, Indonesia

This idyllic Bali beach town may have only just been paved, but it’s already got a huge reputation for scuba diving and snorkeling.

If you're looking for an underwater adventure, use FlipKey to make Amed your next vacation spot, and explore everything Bali has to offer.

About Amed, Indonesia

The eastern shoreline of Bali is an underwater paradise and Amed is a key part of this.

People come from all over the world to dive into the crystal blue waters and see the creatures beneath the surface.

This district itself runs down the coast. It has seven different villages, as well as plenty of beaches where you can soak up some sunshine.

Originally known for salt farming, Amed is now a popular tourist destination. Fishing is also a popular industry here too. You can always be sure that the seafood on your plate was caught that day and cooked to the highest standards.

Amed is perfect for the adventurous holidaymaker who enjoys a bit of relaxation from time to time. After a long dive, just stretch out on the beach and let the bright sunshine dry you off.

What to do in Amed, Indonesia

While you're in Amed, you have to try some of the water sports.

Snorkeling in Jemeluk Bay is unforgettable. But, if you really want to get to the heart of the underwater world, scuba diving is the way to go.

That way you'll be able to see plenty of tropical fish, sea turtles, rays and vibrant coral gardens. You can even go shark diving if you dare. There are plenty of places that let you get up close and personal with the reef.

One of the reasons Amed is a diving hotspot is the shipwreck that’s situated just off the coastline. Sunk in WWII, this Japanese vessel hasn't been touched since. Grab your mask and snorkel, then go explore!

You could be forgiven for thinking it's all about the beach while you're here. But, why not try and find out a little more about the area? Visit the village markets and traditional warung stalls to find yourself the perfect souvenir.

Top Travel tips for Amed, Indonesia

Take a taxi ride from the airport or shuttle bus from Candidasa or Lavina. It won't take too long and is definitely the best way to get there.

Once in Amed, you'll quickly realize it's bigger than you thought. It stretches over 10 km in total. So, you may want to hire your own transport (with driver) to make sure you can get to your vacation hotspots. If not, there are usually plenty of taxis around.

After a long day diving, or trekking in the nearby hills, you'll want to relax. Why not try a traditional Balinese massage on the beach or go to one of the yoga camps nearby?

Slightly more adventurous than other Bali retreats, Amed is the perfect spot for an active yet rejuvenating vacation. Get your trip off to a good start by booking your vacation property on FlipKey today.

Life in Amed, Ocean Front Villa & Salt Water Pool
Stunning Villa in Idyllic Location

We stayed at the Perfumed Garden Villa for a week (3 women & 9 yr old) and enjoyed our visit very much. The house is absolutely stunning with amazing views, especially from the upstairs room: even the bathroom has a view to die for. At first it was disconcerting to me (but not my fellow-guests) that it's totally open at the front and that there are always quite a few people on the beach in front of the house. No walking through the house naked! I got used to it after a while. There is snorkelling right out the front of the house, and more at Coral Gardens in next village (can walk to if keen). Other places to snorkel you need a driver. My child enjoyed playing with the very friendly local kids at the beach every afternoon. There is wifi but because of the location, reception is patchy and unreliable (but we did access it at times). We got no mobile phone reception but the staff were happy to place calls for us from their landline. Overall the staff were very helpful and a cut above those we have experienced elsewhere. We ate most of our meals from the in-house restaurant: just lift up the phone and order. Meals are brought to you (if you wish to dine in) and the staff clean up afterwards. The food was absolutely brilliant, reasonably priced and highly recommended. The only reason we ate out a few times was to experience some other places. Blue Moon Cafe also has excellent food & will pick you up/drive you back free. Although there are a few places of interest in the immediate village, it is not easy to walk to many places from this location, it is better if you have your own transport or hire drivers from hotel. Highly recommend visiting the holy springs. The Villa is part of an accommodation complex (Life in amed) and situated right next to (about) 6 bungalows with their own swimming pool area. The Perfumed Garden swimming pool is salt-water and really lovely. I loved that the owner has made an attempt to be environmentally friendly: solar hot water is used etc.see more
