Ideal location, in need of many repairs/updates. Rusty pool, torn screened in porch, ants all over the place, many lamps not working. It's a shame the house was run down because the location/neighborhood is wonderful!!!

House was nice . Had early check in but house was not ready. 6or7 things were not right or broke & told the inspector when she showed up . only half were fixed. 2bathrooms had no tp . The biggest issue was house phone did not work & was never fixed all week . This is a Huge issue with 7kids in the house !!! I would like 911 to be reached at all times . The pool was not cleaned all week .

This house is awesome! It has lots of amenities that others we have stayed at didnt have. The only downside was the wireless internet the router is in the closet outside near the pool, therefor when you are on the third floor you dont get a signal. It should probably be in the house so it can be used while in the living room. Other than that we had a great time in this beautiful house!
not what we expected

We were very unhappy with this house, it needed alot of updating and cleaning appliances were all rusted stove was not cleaned at all.It did not have the things we needed. Especially flash lights candles for emerency game pieces missing no iron we had to go out and buy one. We had always stay near avon and worked with Hatteress Realty and we were never dissappointed. Thank you for letting us know now of your discontent with Pelican's Perch. We know a number of guests like you had already made arrangements to stay in Hatteras, but had to change your plans at the last minute. We are glad to have accommodated you and your group, and it was not our intent to disappoint you.
We didn't realize there was any issue with the stove being rusted or dirty. This will be rectified, and by the way please let us know right away in the future of problems like this so we can correct them immediately. We will pass your suggestions along to the owner of the property so they will know some of the things you think need to be added. I'm sure your suggestions will be taken to heart.
We hope we find a property more to your liking next time around.
All the best from the beach!
The great family vacation, an "ok" house.

Pelicans Perch is a great house, with an excellent location. Unfortunately, it is very apparent that it is a rental property...and nothing more.
After 4 PM, when we arrived at the house, we were greeted by the cleaners swimming in the pool, and showering in the outdoor shower. Subsequently we had to wait for the pool to be serviced, before we could use it. We asked the cleaners to clean the oven, which had not been cleaned. They promptly did so, but rendered the oven off limits for several hours during dinner time. The kitchen is very disorganized,(not necessarily the owners fault), and with only adequate utensils and equipment. A thorough inventory needs t be done!
The overall cleanliness of the house could use improvement, the rugs need to be cleaned and the Master Bedroom sofa and pillows need to be freshened. The Master closet is full of useless items, and one hanger is not adequate. Other rooms had less that that! The shower drain was severely clogged, (I experienced the same thing last year).
Some of the outdoor deck furniture is broken.
The pool is beautiful, however several people felt a slight shock, when standing in the pool and toughing something outside of the water. We experienced the same thing last year.
The keypad entry is very convenient! No more keys!
We rent this home because it is next door to our other family members. It is extremely convenient.

Beautiful view - house needs help

Pros - Great location! Very close to the beach, with unobstructed views of the ocean. Crows nest w/deck was a great feature. Pool was small, but a nice amenity. Quiet, family neighborhood within a very short walk to the community pool and tenniscourts. Cons - house needs updating, rugs need to be cleaned or replaced, in addition to re-stocking the entire kitchen's cookware inventory. Pots and pans were barely usable. Overall, the pros beat out the cons, considering price. This house is considered oceanside, since its three houses back from the beach, however, there are no houses built on one side, so the veiws are amazing. Sort of like getting an oceanfront for the price of an oceanside.
Love the location, house needs a lot of TLC.

This was our second year staying at Pelicans Perch and we love the location. You can't beat it for the price. The house this past year seemed to be very run down and the outside furniture and pool are was filthy. During our week we had a broken pool light. A service man came to fix it but left wires exposed and said he would be back wednesday to finish it and never came back. Hot tub was broken, dryer needed repair and we didn't have cable or internet for four days. we would love to stay there again if some work was done to make the outside more inviting. Pool area especially. The umbrella has been broken for two years at least and a table to sit at and eat would be nice. Read more
Thank you for you review of Pelican's Perch. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know of your experience.
The unfortunate fact is that things do happen to these rental houses during folks' stay and we respond to them as soon and as professionally as possible.
We are a bit confusted about the mention of the pool light being broken because that was actually something that happened during your stay (someone was evidently trying to ride a piece of plywood in the pool and it smashed into the light, thus breaking it) and we rectified it without question or charge to you or your guests. The other issues you pointed out we of course corrected promptly as wel.
This is a wonderful property and we are glad that your group had a good stay this year.
Here's hoping for a less eventful stay next time you are with us.

This house is literally steps from the beach...in a very nice location. The pool is quite small and feels a bit disconnected from the house since there are no decks on that side of the house. The house is definitely well used inside. Be sure to bring specific kitchen items you may want...pots in ok condition and a random assortment of utensils. We had to go out and buy a wine opener and a couple other things.

We enjoyed our week at Pelican's Perch in Corolla. The house was spacious and well equipped with a large table for 8 and plenty of pots and pans, sliverware, bowls, etc. The house had plenty of beach chairs for all and the pool and hot tub were very welcoming after spending most of the day on the beach. The house was very clean and had pool service on our arrival day and during the week. The keyless entry made getting in and out of the house hassel free for all of us and we didn't have to worry about lost keys.
Everyone at Outerbanks Blue agency was very helpful and accomadating from the initial inquiry through out our stay. We opted for the early arrival option which was pricey ($112) for accessing the house at 1 pm but it was nice to get in before the 4 pm check-in time. We met up with the other family we were sharing the house with after we both drove over 6 hours in the parking lot of the community center. We wanted to say hello and figure out what to do for the next few hours before we were allowed to check in. The security guard for the community came over and could not of been any ruder and treated us like vandals. He would not let us stay in the empty parking lot for a minute for us to figure out what to do since we were not familiar with the area. We told him we were renting but couldn't get into the house yet and only needed a few minutes to figure out where to go. He told us we had to leave immediately. We were 2 families in SUV's with children so it was obvious we were not causing any trouble plus we were renters! He needs to be educated on customer service and understand that guests are arriving after traveling long distances and meeting in the parking lot is not a crime.

what a nice home. mere feet to the beach and very reasonably priced for its location. loved our stay in this home and would recommend to others.
A wonderful house

We loved this house. It had a great beach view off the deck, the beach access was very close and there was a lifeguard chair at the beach by the access. There was a good supply of linens in th4e batroom, bedrooms and kitchen. The kitchen was well supplied and had a good amount of storage containers for leftovers, a big plus with our group. The reservation process was simple and we loved the no check-in, keyless entry feature. Our only concern was the loudness of the pool pump. It got louder through the week and it might need to be checked at some point. We would highly recommend this house.
Very nice house and close to beach

Overall, had a very nice stay in the house. 3 levels of living space - enough for 2 families to have their own space. Multiple TV/DVD players.
Would recommend it.
Only concern is that the kitchen was not as well stocked as we were led to believe. Were no real wine glasses, no tupperware to store leftovers. However, Outer Banks Blue did a superb job and brought us these things when we talked with them. We were told it would have everything you would have at home except things like a bread maker. Also, dishes were filthy we when arrived, but that could be at any house.
Outdoor extras great - boogie boards, chairs, toys, etc..
I would stay here again.

overall we had a great experience! the home was very sound-proof and had all the emenities we needed; however, it would have been helpful if in the description you listed the age of the home. we really have no complaints, but may have chosen a "newer" home. the pool and hottub were great. the distance to the beach was very accurate. the check-in time is a little later than we would like-we had many young children in our group who may have befifitted from a chance to rest after a long drive. to avoid the traffic, we arrived fairly early, so we had about 4 hours until we could get into our home. i understand that the cleaning service needs time to do their work, but perhaps you could offer an early check-in as an option (for a fee) and make arrangements for the cleaning crew to arrive early at those particular homes so they would be ready for occupancy by 1 pm or so. we are planning a return trip next summer, but we'll need to wait to see everyone's schedules to make our reservations for summer '10!

The location of this beach house was OUTSTANDING! With only 3 lots to the beach, getting back and forth was quick and easy. Plus the views over the dunes were fantastic.
The house needs some updating and could stand to be restocked with glassware and silverware.
There were 5 bedrooms - 3 were masters with queen beds, 1 with two twin beds that connected thru a full bath to the last room with 2 bunk beds. These were all quite sufficient. There was a futon in the gameroom on the first floor, but no curtains so the room was bright early.
The loft room was really cute and had an exceptional view of the dunes and ocean.
The pool was well-kept and the storage room was totally stocked with gear for the beach - tons of chairs, beach toys, umbrellas, crab nets & cages, boogie & skim boards - everything you could need.
There were grocery stores and shopping plazas within a mile in each direction of the main road.
All in all, a good house for the price and location.

This was our second year renting from Outer Banks Blue. Pelicans' Perch is very close to the beach. Great view of ocean from tower room. Enjoyed the fireworks from a nearby house. Kitchen narrow and could be a little better equipped. Mattresses for the bunks and twins should be replaced. We had a few visitors in the pool (crabs) which was neat! Our granddaughter was in charge of returning them to the ocean. We did enjoy our stay.

This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and we had a wonderful time. We loved the beach access, swimming pool and hot tub. We also loved the layout of the house and the fabulous ocean views. We were very lucky because having limited knowledge of the area, we ended up with a property that was extremely convenient for our family. The property is only a mile from the Harris Teeter, TimBuck II shops, and Monterey Plaza shopping center which made eating out, and running for groceries quick and painless.
Our 1 minor complaint was that with a house loaded with all of these amenities, it would've been nice if the TVs were newer/nicer, i.e. flat screens and if we had more than just basic cable, i.e. movie channels and ON DEMAND features. We had a few days of inclement weather and it would have been nice if the kids could've watched their favorite shows, AND the adults could've watched a good movie.
We will DEFINITELY look to rent with Outer Banks Blue, and rent in the Corolla Area in the future. Thanks for a memorable vacation!

The picture of the outside of this home is quite deceiving. We really didn't know what to expect upon arrival. Needless to say, we were more than pleasantly surprised! The location is fantastic!!! The deck around the house offers a superb view of the ocean. It was so nice to walk such a short distance to the beach with 2 small children in tow, not to mention the many trips back to the house for "potty" breaks. The house is very spacious. It is nicely decorated and perfect for families with small children!!!!!Our only recommendation is that the upholstery on the living room furniture really should be cleaned!!!!! If this would have been taken care of the house would have received an A+ rating from us. Hopefully this will be the case when we return next summer!!!!!! Read more
Thank you for your comments regarding "Pelican's Perch." We will be sure to get the upholstrey cleaned based on your comments. Just for future reference we would have been happy to handle this during your stay had you given us a call. We weren't aware of the issue until you told us. Thanks again.
We look forward to serving you again soon!
