What Past Guests Are Saying
Hard to leave such a lovely house and its beautiful surroundings
This is one of the best places I have ever stayed. Everything and I mean everything has been thought of from toasty pockets to seaweed baths to baby toys! There is a great supply of games, books and puzzles for when you are indoors and the house itself is immaculately clean, warm and comfortable. If there is anything you need (which I doubt) the owners live just a stones throw away and are more than happy to help. We stayed for a week with our four month old baby and found it such a lovely peaceful place to be even when the Irish weather was doing its worst outside. Surrounded by fields and cows, just a short walk to the beach along which you can reach the golfclub and within half an hours drive of many pretty towns and villages, not forgetting the cliffs of Moher and lots more besides (information leaflets detailing all the local points of interest can be found in the house). If you're looking for a quiet getaway from which to explore the beautiful unspoilt west coast of county Clare or fancy trying your hand at golfing, surfing, horse riding or just getting out on bicycles (yes these are provided too!) then I don't think you could find better than this. Many thanks to Nuala, Declan, Naimh and Sean.

Hi Sally - many thanks for writing such a lengthy review. Glad ye enjoyed the week in West Clare and there will always be a Cead Mile Failte for ye here!
We, family with 4 children, stood 4 days in this great location very close to the sea with a fantastic scenery. Our host family was extraordinary friendly. For sure, we will come back! The house was perfectly and beautiful prepaired and established.

Thanks Anja for that lovely review. For sure, ye will be very welcome back again!! Hope Sara is practicing her gaelic football!
Everything you could possibly need!
We've rented houses several times in the past but generally in holiday villages. This was the first time we opted for a private rental. The house was so well equiped that we commented on it several times. From items such as a beach blanket to games for the kids.
Although the weather wasn't great there was still plenty to keep the kids (5 year old and 16 month old) amused.
The quality of the furnishings in the house was top class and cleanliness was second to none.
I wasn't really blown away by Doonbeg village itself. It's probably a dining destination for people staying in Kilkee. The pubs and restaurants were extremely quiet but probably livened up late in the evening. We were tied to early times and I'm not sure that I found it that great for small kids. Saying that Doonbeg Lodge was ideal. I didn't find it too much more expensive that other local restaurants and it was comfortable and spacious. I didn't feel too bad if the kids weren't seated at all times.

Hi Fiona - many thanks for taking the time to post that review and great to see comments on more than Sandhills House itself! Hope to see ye again sometime. Regards, Nuala.
Sandhills House was exactly what we were looking for and needed. The house is spotlessly clean with 3 lovely bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The living space is very comfortable and everything you could possible think of is provided. There were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children) and the space was great, there is a garden at the side which was lovely and so well kept, it was lovely and relaxing sitting out there. At the back of the house there is a bigger garden with lots for the kids to do. The beach is literally 5 minutes away through the adjoining farm, which was also very interesting for the kids. The beach is beautiful and you could walk for hours on it. There were lots of rocks at the end of the beach which provided lots of entertainment for the kids. We were made feel so welcome and the house so well presented and prepared, we will definitely visit again, it was an absolute pleasure to stay there. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay this is it with both a country and seaside feel to it.

An oasis of peace and tranquiity
We stayed in Sandhills House for 3 nights and it was the best holiday home we've ever stayed in. Great location, very clean, cosy, super showers, all mod cons and very, very comfortable beds! Nuala has developed an amazing holiday retreat with tons of information at hand. Nothing is overlooked, there's even a needle and thread! The walks are amazing with Bruno the loving collie, leading the way. Within a 5 minute walk is the amazing Doughmore beach. 35 minutes walk to the golf club with the wild atlantic waves for company and hardly another soul in sight. A coffee or a pint in Darby's bar and you're well set up for the return walk along the beach. Sheer bliss. We'll be back! Thanks Nuala and family, and of course Bruno!

There is a reason behind 5 stars for every review!
We had a group of 4 stay here at Sandhills towards the end of our trip. We stayed for 3 nights and it was the best place we stayed at thru out the trip. Good location! 45 minute drive to aran Islands,Cliffs of Moher and the Burren National Park. Good shopping with decent size towns near by. Good food just a couple minutes drive. Nuala does a great job. Very clean and organized and has tons of information at our fingertips. You just cannot beat this place with any other when you compare the house, location, hospitality and the kindness. Also, the private little 5 minute walk to beach and the beach walk was fabulous. When we come back to Ireland our trip planning will be a lot easier knowing where we are staying! Thanks Nuala and family and of course Bruno!

Perfect accommodation, geniale Unterkunft
We never rent before so a great house for our vacation. The house was very good furnished. All the items were looking nearly new.
But what us impressed most was the extremly friendly and helpfully ownerin of the house. When we arrived in the evening she had prepared a basket with bread, butter and marmelade. Before our trip we got emails with perfect description concerning the way. When I had a question by email I got allways very fast an answer with all the information we needed.
We could find in the house many documents which were very helpful (like address of a doctor, maps with recommendation for some trips, time table for church, ...). We never had a so well prepared house before.
It is clear for us that if we will go in the next years again to Irland we will stay at Sandhills House again!

Magic in the dunes
My family and I stayed at Sandhills House over a week in June and I could not have been more satisfied with the property, location and attention paid by our host, Nuala Shanahan. Firstly, the cottage and main house are located just above Doughmore Beach with private access to the beach. The garden and house look out across the dunes (Doonbeg golf course) and fields which make up a pristine C. Clare coastal location. The cottage itself was immaculate with new appliances with outstanding views in all directions. Cozy and very comfortable. Our young children loved playing in the garden with the wooden climber and trampoline- and we all enjoyed being able to walk down to the stunning Doughmore Beach. For a golfer, the location couldn't be better staring across at the outer holes of Doonbeg and just down the road from Lahinch. This is an idyllic and wonderful place, we will be returning very soon.

Thanks for that lovely review, Peter and looking forward to meeting you all again in July!
Fantastic stay with great facilities
Myself, my partner and son stayed here for a week in august with our dog. Dogs are not allowed in the house which is very understandable but Nuala did accommodate us by allowing us to bring him and giving us the use of the garage for him at night time. Although as it turned out he had no interest in sleeping in the garage and stayed out all night playing instead :). The house's location is amazing, right beside the beach which was a huge factor for me when booking the house. It meant I could take myself off down there for a stroll anytime without worrying about getting into a car to do so. The house is equipped with just about everything you could possibly need on holidays and even a little bit extra! Nuala was available to answer any questions when needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it to people, in fact we'll probably be back ourselves at some stage.
Excellent accomodation in a Beautiful Location
I recently spent a week at Sandhills House and I found it to be an excellent Holiday Home. The accomodation is very clean and modern. It is the ideal holiday home for couples as well as for families. The location is brilliant for touring around west Clare, and there is a beautiful beach only 5 mins away. The only minor fault I found is that the nearby Village of Doonbeg does not have a good supermarket and you will need to travel to Kilrush (about 1/2 hours drive by car_) to find a good selection of Supermarkets.
Our stay at Sandhills House was very quiet and relaxing.
I stayed at Sandhills House with my 2 sons. It was very enjoyable and located in a nice quiet friendly area. It was within walking distance of the beach. The house was clean and had all the facilities needed. The weather was the only thing that we were disappointed with.
relaxing and a little piece of heaven.
We have stayed in the sand hills for three years in a row for a fortnight and have loved the house and the area. The house is big and bright and the kitchen is up to date. The beach is a five minute walk away and is a lovely beach for walking or sunbathing. Miltown Malabay is twenty minutes up the road and Doonbeg is ten minutes. The people are friendly and helpful, the views magnificent.Loads of activities nearby for every one to do The ideal place to unwind and de-stress. Will be returning again
Fulfilling and relaxing
Have stayed at Sandhills three times, love the peacefulness and close proximity to the beach. There is easy access to other towns in the county. Great views from all parts of the house. House is lovely, all amenities included. Amenities for children there too. The family who own the house are very helpful, we never had any problems, and they were always so welcoming. The beach was the best as you can walk it everyday.
Relaxing , idyllic setting.
Just home from a weeks stay at Sandhills house ,the whole family thoroughly enjoyed it.Childrens ages range from teen to baby. Private access to a gorgeous beach with views and hundreds of small rock pools that the kids were delighted with. We all loved the house surrounds with its picturesque gardens and the kids made full use of swings ,trampoline and play area. Sandhills house is kitted out with absolutely everything you could possibly think of and has hotel style luxuries ,soft towels shampoo etc. We will be back!!
A wonderful holiday !
Sandhills House is located in a wonderful area in county Clare! it's the nicest and most comfortable holiday house we ever stayed at! a refreshing and resting holiday! the most appropriate holiday with children and for sport.
a friendly Irish welcome we'll never forget!
This house exceeded all our expectations!!!
Sandhills House was recommended to us by friends who had stayed there while attending a function in the Doonbeg Golf Course. House is situated just beside the Golf Course. What an a amazing house! The house is furnished to an exceptionally high standard. The kitchen has a very high spec, dishwasher, big fridge-freezer, coffee-maker, good quality delph, glassware, saucepans and cutlery. Tea bags, coffee and washing and dishwasher powder were supplied so no worries about having to bring the contents of my kitchen on holidays! I loved using the cooker. The oil-fired radiators heat the house easily and quickly and good insulation keeps the house warm long after the heat is switched off. The solar panels provide steady hot water for showers and baths. The house has a really good lighting plan suitable for all needs - reading, watching television, dining or playing board games with the children. The bedrooms. all en-suite, are finished to an extremely high standard, beautiful bedding. The house has a soothing comforting co-ordinated cololur scheme. No need to bring bikes or books or boardgames or sand shovels and pails to Sandhills House- Nuala supplies them all. All you have to do is bring yourself! The only problem we encountered was having to share the LazyBoy and the remote control for the flatscreened telly!!! The house is ideal for couples, individual tourists or for families. It's perfect for a quiet week-end or as a base for golfing, exploring the West Clare area or as accommodation for attending a wedding. I can't wait to return to Sandhills House!
Fantastic for family holiday.
Fantastic location with easy access to beach and working farm. Hubbie made use of the amazing golf course on its doorstep. The kids had a fantastic time and back again this summer. Nuala and family couldn't have been more helpful. Thanks again.

Memories of a lifetime
As it has been almost a year since we visited Sandhill's House, I can honestly say we remember it fondly everyday. The kids enjoyed every minute. They were busy at surf camp during the day and very much enjoyed the beach in the evening. The house was so incredibly comfortable. It is impeccably clean and a treat to relax in after a great day of enjoying the sights. The setting with it's views of the Doonbeg Golf Course, ocean and farms is just beautiful.
The owners could not be more organized or friendly. We appreciated everything their home had to offer us. We are all hoping to return and do it again at Sandhill's House very soon.

A Wonderful Find
We stayed at Sandhills House while attending a wedding at the Doonbeg Golf Club. The location was perfect as Sandhills House actually overlooks the golf course. The house itself is bright, spacious and very nicely decorated. It is extremely comfortable and it felt like 'home from home'. The kitchen was very well stocked, we had everything we needed. It is also extremely close to the most magnificent beach. There were 3 couples in our party and we had two very large bedrooms upstairs, one with a nice view over the golf course and the sandhills, both ensuite and another bedroom downstairs. I would highly recommend this house. We had a wonderful weekend here and Nuala couldn't have been more helpful.
