Pretoria, South AfricaA good choice, best location.
Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Our family of four as well as a friend rented this apartment for a period of four nights. It was quite a challenge to find an apartment for five adults with two bathrooms, of a decent size in a good location. This place lived up to all of these requirements. I wanted to stay in the old part of town, but could not find anything suitable and settled for this place in the new town which is actually the newer part of a still old town! This proved to be such a good decision. Our location was so good for many practical reasons like arriving fom the airport on the airlink airport bus. The close proximity to Princess Street means easy access to the shopping area, Waverley Station (for car rental in our case), the Old Town, Edinbugh Castle as well as easy bus access to Murrayfield (we were there for rugby), Edinburgh Tour Buses etc. all the important attractions were within walking distance. For practical reasons alone, I will choose this area myself again in future as well as recommend it to others without hesitation.
We found the apartment to be big enough for five adults, even though one person had to sleep on a sofa in the lounge. The kitchen is small, but well equipped. It suited us perfectly, as we only ever had breakfast there. The place was spotlessly clean and basics were provided like some coffee, tea, sugar, dishwashing liquid etc. Beds and linen were of good quality. Overall we were very satisfied. The only downside maybe...we were woken on two occasions late at night from loud arguing and a drunken brawl in the street as well as by the garbage truck which comes very early in the morning! Otherwise it is a relatively area keeping in mind that you are in the middle of a city. -

We stayed for 4 nights just as the Fringe was previewing. Just as it looks on the photos. Well mantained, clean and a lovely welcome. Agent contact prior to visit helpful and informative. Just off George Street, two minutes from Prince's Street and the National Galleries. Close to many of the Fringe venues if visiting in august. Excellent range of restaurants very close - including the newly opened Jamie's Italian in the assembly Rooms on George Street.
We used the extra bed as there were 5 of us - that worked well as there is a little alcove where the bed can stay so no contant putting it away. Also quite private because of this. The exterior has been criticised but it is a entrance along a quiet street, a number of resaurants have their back entrances along the street, which led to a peaceful sleep. The garage is a real bonus as it is difficult and expensive to park in Edinburgh. -

Nice and stylish modern apartment within walking distance of pretty much everything. Comfy beds and everything else that you need and expect from a chic city centre rental. Tea, coffee, mily already there on arrival too.
As it is in a mews and close to restaurants + bars there was a little noise later at night but it didn't last long -

Booking was easy and friendly advice from Glen certainly helped make a choice for celebrating our Sons graduation at Edinburgh University. We had a friendly service on arrival from Dave, despite our late arrival getting lost with our sat nav!
Loved the apartment clean and spacious. Kitchen was ideal for cooking and entertaining for our large group of family. Ideally placed for all the sights and just around the corner from shops food/clothes etc... maybe sometimes too close encouraging you to spend!
Places to eat, loved The Ship The Outsider & The Mussel Inn all fantastic restaurants in Edinburgh.
The garage was such a treat, parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare and so expensive. Early morning deliveries outside the flat can wake you up, so if you want to spend the morning in bed I suggest ear plugs! to be honest it was not a problem as we got up early most days to see the sights of bonnie Scotland. We would book again without hesitation. -

Left on 05/02/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We really enjoyed the layout of the apartment and how much space we had for our three kids to run around. We were warmly greeted for our walk through and appreciated the time the manager took inform us of family-friendly dining in the area. The apartment was a bit farther away from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle than we would have liked, but we got some good exercise in walking there! My only complaint about the apartment was that the mattress in the master bedroom was quite uncomfortable. You could feel the springs sticking up, which made sleeping difficult. We ended up putting an extra comforter down on top of the mattress to ease the discomfort. We would recommend a new mattress for the master bedroom.

Left on 01/08/2012 for a stay in January 2012
The apartment is in a perfect central location away from the hustle and bustle but extremely close to the Royal Mile and all the restraunt and bars you would ever need on our dorrstep.
The apartment is looking a little tired, but that is very minor to what you get in other places and value for money is excellent in our opinion. We travelled with another couple and we both felt we had our own space and enjoyed the large lounge area and kitchen and the privacy.
The back lane does have some garbage bins in it, they do get collected most days from the restaurant down the lane, it is however a very minor inconvenience, one that we blinked at and did not complain about at all. The quietness of the accommodation is superb and it is not overlooked, although there are buildings across the road none of the windows look into the apartment as they are opaque.
Having a garage is a massive bonus and of a good size, great to leave your vehicle there as you will not need in in Edinburgh.
We did have a maintance problem with the washing, Dave came to fix it the very next day, exellent service!
We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to any we know. Enjoy!!! -

An excellent location, close enough to walk to all the city centre attractions. It is a well provided apartment (dishes, utensils, towels, etc.) and nice enough to live in full time, not just for visits. Plenty of space for our family of five. A nice gas fireplace to sit by after the kids are in bed, just be careful because it gets really hot. Parking for a car was available, making it ideal for us to head out and see some of the surrounding sites.

Brooklyn, New YorkGreat base for exploring Edinburgh
Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in September 2011
This apartment is in a converted carriage house in an exceptional location in New Town. There are many dining and shopping options within a few blocks, and it is just a short walk to the National Galleries, the Royal Mile, and Edinburgh Castle. It is on a lane behind busy Thistle Street, so is relatively quiet while still being in the center of things. The reviewer who complained that the apartment is on a "garbage lane" is likely referring to the fact that the shops and restaurants on Thistle Street have their back entrances and garbage dumpsters on the lane, but anyone who is familiar with neighborhoods like SoHo or Dumbo in NYC will not be taken aback by this.
On the down side, the mattress in the downstairs bedroom was thin and uncomfortable, as was the rollaway bed. The only one of the three mattresses in the apartment that is really suitable for sleeping is the one in the main bedroom upstairs. Especially annoying to us was that the washing machine malfunctioned on our last night there, leaving us with a pile of soaking wet laundry as we were preparing to vacate and begin a cross-country drive. The washer may have been an isolated problem, but management really should address the mattresses. Otherwise, the apartment was comfortable and above-average for a vacation rental.Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 10/07/2011

Thank you for the positive review. I will take it up owner/client on your feedback of the mattresses in the downstairs bedroom and portable bed.

Left on 09/10/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We had such a great time in Edinburgh, it's hard to be objective about the accommodation. Pluses were the apartment was clean and nice, and in a great location for walking to everything. Minuses were we couldn't control the central heating, did not have extra blankets, the bottom bedroom did not have bars on the window and the lane was really a garbage lane.
Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 09/23/2011
Manager
Delighted that the guest/reviewer had a fantastic time in Edinburgh in an apartment that was "clean and nice, and in a great location".
With regards to the problems/issues raised. Precise instructions on central heating are given when guests arrive and the maintenance manager is only a phone call away if it required to go over again, not sure why this guest did not do that?
The street is not a garbage Lane, there a some bins for other residences and businesses but this typical of any city. A quick look on google street view can show this. I am perplexed and have no explanation why this guest would want bars on the bedroom window? -

Left on 07/05/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Dave met us at the door with a cheerful smile and showed us around the apartment. He also advised us on places to eat and buy food.
The accommodation suited us very well. There is an extremely spacious lounge/diner upstairs with a wsll-equipped kitchen. The only downside is that the downstairs bedroom is rather small.
The apartment is a few minutes walk from Princes Street and as we planned to spend a few days exploring Edinburgh on foot it was ideal.
For people with similar plans we strongly recommend getting a walks booklet from the tourist office.

Left on 05/03/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We really enjoyed this rental. As a family with 4 children, ages 3-8, this was the perfect place for us. The location is amazing. Only blocks from the Royal Mile, The Edinburgh Castle etc. The apartment itself is very modern and compact but feels roomy and has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms on each level. The third bed is a fold-up that tucks under the eves in the family room. There is also a washer/dryer combo. Just a half-block away there are several excellent restaurants. An added bonus is the garage. It is single car, but very spacious. We fit our car (Mazda 5), with topper in no problem, and we could still open the car doors. The unit is off an alley, but we thought this added to the modern vibe, especially, as noise was not a problem. An all around great rental.

We were met and shown around the apartment by Dave Stewart who was very helpful and flexible, meeting us an hour earlier than originally planned. The apartment itself was absolutely fantastic, ideal for us (two couples), with a lovely lounge area to relax in. It was extremely well maintained with modern fittings and decor. The kitchen was fully equipped and all bedding and towels included. The location was minutes from Rose and Princes Streets, an ideal base to explore the city from. The apartment really topped a brilliant weekend. Would definitely stay there again.

This apartment is very roomy and in a great location--shopping, transportation, and sightseeing are within blocks. Especially good for us (myself, husband, and 19- and 16-year old sons) was the parking garage since we had a rental car. Use of extra bed was also helpful since both boys are over 6'. This was the best value of our two-week trip (we stayed here two nights).

This is a lovely property in a great location, just minutes from Princes Street. On our arrival We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who gave us our keys and did a quick tour/look round the apartment. The apartment has 2 generous sized double bedrooms but could easily sleep another 2 as there is a fold away double bed in one of the cupboards. This would be more suitable for kids as it would need to be set up in the living area. We travelled by car so to get a property in the centre of the city with a garage was a huge bonus. Once we got there we simply parked the car in the garage and locked it up until we headed home.......no parking fees, great. We had a lovely stay and i would recommend this property.

Left on 08/13/2009 for a stay in July 2009
Situated a short walk to Henry and Prince's, street the location was perfect, the apartment was quite bright and modern and it was quiet during the night. Slight negatives were that the apartment, especially the carpets, were rather badly stained, the crockery needed washing again and the bathroom smelled bad and was not clean. Another slight niggle was that the blinds were transparent, keeping no light out in the mornings. This wasn't a huge problem as the noise in the alleyway in which the apartment is situated came to life at around 7am every day so lie-ins were not an option.
Would recommend to early-risers who are looking for a great location.Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 08/20/2009
Manager
I agree that as we are now well into the season (late August) the property has seen a large number of visitors and as we have not had the best of weather this year many guests have had to enter the property with wet dirty footwear and that has been very detrimental to the carpet which has resulted in it starting to look very tired. As a result it has been scheduled to replace the carpets and re-decorate the property in the low season in a few months time.
However I strongly refute the comments on cleanliness though. The maintenance manager who inspects the property prior to guests arriving is very particular on this subject and would not tolerate any areas within the property that had not been cleaned properly. -
