What Past Guests Are Saying
Great location - The apartment was modern with excellent space
Not a bad word could be said about this apartment.
Great Location, lots of space with modern appliances.
If your looking for accomodation that is central to Princess St with parking you cannot go wrong.
great central location
Spacious garage for your car. Don't be put off by the back street location as the interior is very well finished. Dave is a star for meeting and greeting but make sure you phone him to give him your eta.
great wee spot !
Pretoria, South Africa
A good choice,best location.
Our family of four as well as a friend rented this apartment for a period of four nights. It was quite a challenge to find an apartment for five adults with two bathrooms, of a decent size in a good location. This place lived up to all of these requirements. I wanted to stay in the old part of town, but could not find anything suitable and settled for this place in the new town which is actually the newer part of a still old town! This proved to be such a good decision. Our location was so good for many practical reasons like arriving fom the airport on the airlink airport bus. The close proximity to Princess Street means easy access to the shopping area, Waverley Station (for car rental in our case), the Old Town, Edinbugh Castle as well as easy bus access to Murrayfield (we were there for rugby), Edinburgh Tour Buses etc. all the important attractions were within walking distance. For practical reasons alone, I will choose this area myself again in future as well as recommend it to others without hesitation.
We found the apartment to be big enough for five adults, even though one person had to sleep on a sofa in the lounge. The kitchen is small, but well equipped. It suited us perfectly, as we only ever had breakfast there. The place was spotlessly clean and basics were provided like some coffee, tea, sugar, dishwashing liquid etc. Beds and linen were of good quality. Overall we were very satisfied. The only downside maybe...we were woken on two occasions late at night from loud arguing and a drunken brawl in the street as well as by the garbage truck which comes very early in the morning! Otherwise it is a relatively area keeping in mind that you are in the middle of a city.
Lincoln, United Kingdom
Brilliant - central with easy access to all areas of Edinburgh
We stayed for 4 nights just as the Fringe was previewing. Just as it looks on the photos. Well mantained, clean and a lovely welcome. Agent contact prior to visit helpful and informative. Just off George Street, two minutes from Prince's Street and the National Galleries. Close to many of the Fringe venues if visiting in august. Excellent range of restaurants very close - including the newly opened Jamie's Italian in the assembly Rooms on George Street.
We used the extra bed as there were 5 of us - that worked well as there is a little alcove where the bed can stay so no contant putting it away. Also quite private because of this. The exterior has been criticised but it is a entrance along a quiet street, a number of resaurants have their back entrances along the street, which led to a peaceful sleep. The garage is a real bonus as it is difficult and expensive to park in Edinburgh.
Neat + Handy
Nice and stylish modern apartment within walking distance of pretty much everything. Comfy beds and everything else that you need and expect from a chic city centre rental. Tea, coffee, mily already there on arrival too.
As it is in a mews and close to restaurants + bars there was a little noise later at night but it didn't last long
Ideal location for the city and the surrounding areas.
Booking was easy and friendly advice from Glen certainly helped make a choice for celebrating our Sons graduation at Edinburgh University. We had a friendly service on arrival from Dave, despite our late arrival getting lost with our sat nav!
Loved the apartment clean and spacious. Kitchen was ideal for cooking and entertaining for our large group of family. Ideally placed for all the sights and just around the corner from shops food/clothes etc... maybe sometimes too close encouraging you to spend!
Places to eat, loved The Ship The Outsider & The Mussel Inn all fantastic restaurants in Edinburgh.
The garage was such a treat, parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare and so expensive. Early morning deliveries outside the flat can wake you up, so if you want to spend the morning in bed I suggest ear plugs! to be honest it was not a problem as we got up early most days to see the sights of bonnie Scotland. We would book again without hesitation.
I stayed there 3 nights with a pair of my friend
I was satisfied to stay here, because I appreciate firstly big living with kitchen
which is very comfortable and relaxed room.
The location of it is very convenient but a little bit difficult to reach there for a stranger.
You can enjoy delicious fish dish in restaurant Fish behind the apartment.
Excellent stay. Easy check in. Perfect location. Good customer service. Excellent comfort.
Spacious apartment, good location
We really enjoyed the layout of the apartment and how much space we had for our three kids to run around. We were warmly greeted for our walk through and appreciated the time the manager took inform us of family-friendly dining in the area. The apartment was a bit farther away from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle than we would have liked, but we got some good exercise in walking there! My only complaint about the apartment was that the mattress in the master bedroom was quite uncomfortable. You could feel the springs sticking up, which made sleeping difficult. We ended up putting an extra comforter down on top of the mattress to ease the discomfort. We would recommend a new mattress for the master bedroom.

Holiday in Edinburgh
This was our second stay at this apartment and I would not hesitate to book it again. Everything was excelent.
Perfect central location and excellent accommodation
The apartment is in a perfect central location away from the hustle and bustle but extremely close to the Royal Mile and all the restraunt and bars you would ever need on our dorrstep.
The apartment is looking a little tired, but that is very minor to what you get in other places and value for money is excellent in our opinion. We travelled with another couple and we both felt we had our own space and enjoyed the large lounge area and kitchen and the privacy.
The back lane does have some garbage bins in it, they do get collected most days from the restaurant down the lane, it is however a very minor inconvenience, one that we blinked at and did not complain about at all. The quietness of the accommodation is superb and it is not overlooked, although there are buildings across the road none of the windows look into the apartment as they are opaque.
Having a garage is a massive bonus and of a good size, great to leave your vehicle there as you will not need in in Edinburgh.
We did have a maintance problem with the washing, Dave came to fix it the very next day, exellent service!
We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to any we know. Enjoy!!!
A Canadian Family Abroad
A real Gem of a place
An excellent location, close enough to walk to all the city centre attractions. It is a well provided apartment (dishes, utensils, towels, etc.) and nice enough to live in full time, not just for visits. Plenty of space for our family of five. A nice gas fireplace to sit by after the kids are in bed, just be careful because it gets really hot. Parking for a car was available, making it ideal for us to head out and see some of the surrounding sites.
Brooklyn, New York
Great base for exploring Edinburgh
This apartment is in a converted carriage house in an exceptional location in New Town. There are many dining and shopping options within a few blocks, and it is just a short walk to the National Galleries, the Royal Mile, and Edinburgh Castle. It is on a lane behind busy Thistle Street, so is relatively quiet while still being in the center of things. The reviewer who complained that the apartment is on a "garbage lane" is likely referring to the fact that the shops and restaurants on Thistle Street have their back entrances and garbage dumpsters on the lane, but anyone who is familiar with neighborhoods like SoHo or Dumbo in NYC will not be taken aback by this.
On the down side, the mattress in the downstairs bedroom was thin and uncomfortable, as was the rollaway bed. The only one of the three mattresses in the apartment that is really suitable for sleeping is the one in the main bedroom upstairs. Especially annoying to us was that the washing machine malfunctioned on our last night there, leaving us with a pile of soaking wet laundry as we were preparing to vacate and begin a cross-country drive. The washer may have been an isolated problem, but management really should address the mattresses. Otherwise, the apartment was comfortable and above-average for a vacation rental.
Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 10/07/2011
Thank you for the positive review. I will take it up owner/client on your feedback of the mattresses in the downstairs bedroom and portable bed.
Great time, okay accommodation
We had such a great time in Edinburgh, it's hard to be objective about the accommodation. Pluses were the apartment was clean and nice, and in a great location for walking to everything. Minuses were we couldn't control the central heating, did not have extra blankets, the bottom bedroom did not have bars on the window and the lane was really a garbage lane.
Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 09/23/2011
Delighted that the guest/reviewer had a fantastic time in Edinburgh in an apartment that was "clean and nice, and in a great location".
With regards to the problems/issues raised. Precise instructions on central heating are given when guests arrive and the maintenance manager is only a phone call away if it required to go over again, not sure why this guest did not do that?
The street is not a garbage Lane, there a some bins for other residences and businesses but this typical of any city. A quick look on google street view can show this. I am perplexed and have no explanation why this guest would want bars on the bedroom window?
An ideal venue for exploring the city on foot.
Dave met us at the door with a cheerful smile and showed us around the apartment. He also advised us on places to eat and buy food.
The accommodation suited us very well. There is an extremely spacious lounge/diner upstairs with a wsll-equipped kitchen. The only downside is that the downstairs bedroom is rather small.
The apartment is a few minutes walk from Princes Street and as we planned to spend a few days exploring Edinburgh on foot it was ideal.
For people with similar plans we strongly recommend getting a walks booklet from the tourist office.
Apartment was OK. Location left a bit to be desired.
Four of us recently stayed at the apartment. While the apartment is quite roomy and comfortable, the location left a bit to be desired. Apartment is located in a dingy alley that is loud and dirty. Proximity to Royal Mile is acceptable.
Excellent Edinburgh Location
We really enjoyed this rental. As a family with 4 children, ages 3-8, this was the perfect place for us. The location is amazing. Only blocks from the Royal Mile, The Edinburgh Castle etc. The apartment itself is very modern and compact but feels roomy and has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms on each level. The third bed is a fold-up that tucks under the eves in the family room. There is also a washer/dryer combo. Just a half-block away there are several excellent restaurants. An added bonus is the garage. It is single car, but very spacious. We fit our car (Mazda 5), with topper in no problem, and we could still open the car doors. The unit is off an alley, but we thought this added to the modern vibe, especially, as noise was not a problem. An all around great rental.
Great location with all amenities
Great apartment in central Edinburgh with all amenities, exactly as advertised. Reliable wifi, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, central heading, garage, all close to city center but not noisy at night. Modern conversion of old building, very pleasant and bright. Ideal for us visitors who need good broadband but want to be in the heart of the city.
Gorgeous apartment in excellent location to explore Edinburgh
We were met and shown around the apartment by Dave Stewart who was very helpful and flexible, meeting us an hour earlier than originally planned. The apartment itself was absolutely fantastic, ideal for us (two couples), with a lovely lounge area to relax in. It was extremely well maintained with modern fittings and decor. The kitchen was fully equipped and all bedding and towels included. The location was minutes from Rose and Princes Streets, an ideal base to explore the city from. The apartment really topped a brilliant weekend. Would definitely stay there again.
Very good and convenient spot in Central Edinburgh. Well laid out apartment.
Thistle street Lane
This apartment is in an excelent location within walking distance to the castle and most central points of interest. The apartment was spacious, warm and clean. We would definately use this one again.
Accommodation was clean, warm and very user friendly. Location is fantastic.
October 2010 visitor
Ideal for visiting Dynamic Earth, the Castle and the shops.
Very good accommodation!
Very nice house with secure parking, excellently positioned in the city centre, close to all the attractions. Clean, very well equipped.
We had a very pleasant stay and can strongly recommend it.
Thank you very much!
Ideal festival location
Superb location, nicely appointed property. Handy for festival venues, great pubs and walks in the new town. Really pleasant and comfortable when just wanting to sit around.
This apartment is very roomy and in a great location--shopping, transportation, and sightseeing are within blocks. Especially good for us (myself, husband, and 19- and 16-year old sons) was the parking garage since we had a rental car. Use of extra bed was also helpful since both boys are over 6'. This was the best value of our two-week trip (we stayed here two nights).
Convenient and central position
Lovely modern home very close to shops and rail station with all mod coms. Friendly 'meeter and greeter'. Located in a back street which could be off-putting. Some trouble with water heating but hopefully put right.
Cleveland, Ohio USA
Great apartment in great location
The apartment was a little hard to find, but it is a really nice apartment that is in a great location. There is a nice little pub basically across the street. It is close to museums and is about a 10-15 minute walk to the castle. I would stay here again. The parking is definitely a bonus, but is not for a big car.
Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 04/02/2011
Thank you for the great response just surprised on the comment regarding the garage, if you look at the floor plan you will it is 6 metres long and 3 metres wide, I can easily park my wifes 5 series BMW.
Great Edinburgh accommodation
We had a wonderful stay at Thistle St Lane. The position of the apartment was extremely central to shops, sights, restaurants and transport. Having a garage was a great plus. Would not stay anywhere else in Edinburgh.
shoppin' & pubs
What a great location plus it has parking included. Very comfortable flat, tons of natural light and plenty of windows you can open for fresh air. well appointed kitchen and roomy seating area in which to enjoy morning coffee. The heated towel racks were a nice surprise and the beds were quite comfy. Bakery, coffee shops, and tons of other places to eat and drink all within walking distance. The Royal Mile, Castle, and all the shopping you could possibly want is either a short walk or quick cab ride away. We will certainly stay here again when we come back.
Great stay in Edinburgh
This apartment is an excellent location to visit all the historic sights of old Edinburgh. Secure parking was an invaluable added bonus.
The apartment was clean, well maintained and comfortable for a family stay.
Reception and departure adminstration was carried out in an efficient and courteous manner (Dave was friendly and helpful and full of information about the facilities).
We would recommend this self catered apartment to our friends.
Great property, great location.
This is a lovely property in a great location, just minutes from Princes Street. On our arrival We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who gave us our keys and did a quick tour/look round the apartment. The apartment has 2 generous sized double bedrooms but could easily sleep another 2 as there is a fold away double bed in one of the cupboards. This would be more suitable for kids as it would need to be set up in the living area. We travelled by car so to get a property in the centre of the city with a garage was a huge bonus. Once we got there we simply parked the car in the garage and locked it up until we headed home.......no parking fees, great. We had a lovely stay and i would recommend this property.
Excellent facilities and location
Excellent facilities and location
Great location with parking included !!
Good location also with family of one child or if two can share room. All
amenities are very close. Lots of restaurants close at both ends and very
central in Edinburgh. We walked everywhere without bus. Some minor noise
given it is in a back lane when rubbish trucks come to empty bins.
Aviemore, Highlands, Scotland.
A good find hidden away in the city centre.
The property in Thistle Street Lane was just what we wanted - convenient for George Street & the New Town. We wanted to be able to walk the city centre. Also we were able to park the car in the garage which was a real plus. The property was well equipped, spacious and clean. Your man who saw us in and out was most helpful We had a baby with us and he was also well catered for with cot & high chair. All in all, very satisfactory and we would definately return to Thistle Street Lane.
A relaxing weekend in Edinburgh
The accommodation is in an excellent location near Princes Street, Georges Street, Hanover etc. The best Italin restaurant is Bar Napoli on Hanover Street ++++ The appartment was ideal for a family and great if you have a car cause there is a garage. Just park up the car and walk the rest of your vacation.
THISTLE ST. LANE - EDINBURGH
one of the best in the city
When we arrived we were met by a kind man who told us everything we needed to know about the flat. It was very clean, very nice and modern. The bedrooms were wide, the kitchen new and the living room big and confortable. The house is cute, in the centre near the supermarket, the main street and all attractions. The price is very convenient for what they offer. I can say it was a wonderfull choise and I recommend it to everybody who would like to spend a fantastic holiday in a fantastic city.
Thistle st edinburgh
excellent all round
A great time
Well presented apartment, very convenient location, parking in garage ver handy, meet & greet from letting company very good. Thistle Street lane is a rather grubby back street but was well lit and felt very safe. Great restaurants in Thistle St itself and you can walk just about everywhere from here.
Great location, but apartment a bit grubby.
Situated a short walk to Henry and Prince's, street the location was perfect, the apartment was quite bright and modern and it was quiet during the night. Slight negatives were that the apartment, especially the carpets, were rather badly stained, the crockery needed washing again and the bathroom smelled bad and was not clean. Another slight niggle was that the blinds were transparent, keeping no light out in the mornings. This wasn't a huge problem as the noise in the alleyway in which the apartment is situated came to life at around 7am every day so lie-ins were not an option.
Would recommend to early-risers who are looking for a great location.
Response from Edinburgh Self Catering - 08/20/2009
I agree that as we are now well into the season (late August) the property has seen a large number of visitors and as we have not had the best of weather this year many guests have had to enter the property with wet dirty footwear and that has been very detrimental to the carpet which has resulted in it starting to look very tired. As a result it has been scheduled to replace the carpets and re-decorate the property in the low season in a few months time.
However I strongly refute the comments on cleanliness though. The maintenance manager who inspects the property prior to guests arriving is very particular on this subject and would not tolerate any areas within the property that had not been cleaned properly.
A Great Place To Stay
As always, Thistle Street Lane is a lovely, convenient place to stay. Thanks!
Great weekend in Edinburgh!
The apartment was in a great location allowing us to easily walk to any
area in both Edinburgh's new town and old town. The facilities were
spacious (the apartment slept 6 of us), modern and clean, and the
kitchen gives you the option to eat in or you can sample the local
cuisine in the many restaurants and pubs nearby.
We found the staff friendly and helpful and I would recommend this
apartment to anyone who is looking for an apartment in Edinburgh
Thanks for a great weekend in Edinburgh guys!
Lovely apartment, great for the centre of Edinburghh, will retur
Light and airy property, very clean, great facilities and very close to everything you need.
