Description from owner

Description

Jungle living at its’ finest!  An acre of tropical gardens, water features, fruit trees and wildlife habitat–all just 300 footfalls to the Caribbean sand. Wildlife is an integral part of this landscape, you will hear and see wildlife through out your stay. We take much pride in maintaining a habitat where people and animals can co-exist.

The fully furnished ground floor apartment sleeps two; choose the bedroom arranged with a pair of twin beds or a king, all properly outfitted with quality mattresses, plump pillows and imported linens. Security screens afford airflow or may be shuttered to assure absolute privacy.

Kitchen includes range, refrigerator, blender, coffee maker, cookware and table setting. We’ll stock some basics for your arrival then guide you in shopping the weekly farmer’s markets or haggling with the mobile vendors for fruits and vegetable, fish, eggs and meat. Belly up to the breakfast bar for casual seating, dine at the hardwood table under ceiling fans, or head out to the pool deck for a gourmet picnic in the garden.

The artisan bamboo sofa and two oversized chairs provide cushioned seating in the wall-less room where the outside blends to inside. Under the wide eaves and overhead fans, this area is cool on even the warmest of days. Hammocks along the perimeter put you under-cover but virtually in the garden, a decadent way to spend the afternoon.

Bathroom features a sink carved from a tree trunk, mosaic murals and a garden shower, all faucets deliver plumbed hot water.

The tree-level upstairs puts you at eye-level to the howlers and sloths that frequent the property. The kitchen, dining and living area are surrounded by bannisters and open walls, like living on a big covered deck. The effect is amazing. Overhead fans throughout the space supplement the natural breezes.

With a full kitchen, oversized refrigerator/freezer, 6 burner stove, oven, double sink, prep island, microwave, toaster oven, blender and an abundance of quality cookware, the kitchen draws in helpers for the family style feast. A gas BBQ is situated around the corner to allow easy access.

With a table hand constructed from a single tree, the dining area will seat up to 10 comfortably. An ample quantity of dinnerware, in delightful bright fiesta colors set a table that makes any meal a party. Or gather the crew and play cards, board games or build a puzzle when you just want to sit up high and watch what might climb, crawl, creep, flitter, or buzz by below.

The living area features a large cushioned sofa and two oversized cushioned chairs, two rocking chairs and a hammock. A handprinted game table features backgammon, checker/chessboard, and cribbage. Wifi throughout the house keeps you connected and able to post those selfies to jealous friends back home.

The “Master bedroom” features a king-sized bed and headboard crafted from reclaimed lumber designed to celebrate the Caribbean colors, culture and craft.. Overhead fan and secure screens create a restful night sleep. With an ensuite bath--sink and toilet with the shower perched on a ledge extending off the back of the house. Generous plantings and screen afford modesty while providing a unique experience. Mosaic and painted murals decorate the bath areas.

The second “Family bedroom suite” is two distinct rooms. The bedroom includes a king-sized bed with a headboard of live-edge wood designed by the homeowners. Utilizing the often-discarded pieces of fallen trees, the headboard stirs the imagination similar to seeing pictures in clouds. The family room also features a bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a twin bed on the top.

The bunk, too, is crafted from reclaimed lumber and live-edge wood. Sleep well knowing you saved a tree!! The adjoining bathroom includes a sink and toilet within the house and a shower perched off the back. Here the theme is jungle with a waterfall scene depicting local Volio Falls,

An assortment of bathroom essentials and quality towels are for home use and we provide sarongs for the beach. A jacuzzi sits undercover of a traditional thatch roof allowing you a soak among the beautiful gardens regardless of weather. The pool features a pebble zero-entry, wet deck for sunning, and plunge depth. This has become a favorite place to watch the monkeys overhead.

Extensive plantings and a frog pond provide habitat for many species of wildlife; keep tabs on Max the sloth and her expanding family who now occupy several trees on the property, catch the routine visits of the agoutis, and try your luck at nabbing the perfect photo of the magnificent blue morpho butterfly as it regularly weaves through the garden.

Response from the owner Thank you for the kind words! We are always delighted when guests discover the same magic about this property as we do. Even today doing some garden maintenance I was constantly distracted by what is just natural, but always intriguing. A particular treat today was a troop of Spider Monkeys! That's unusual and of course I stopped to watch their acrobatics in the trees above. A. year is almost over, and I reflect back on the amazing guests we've met, you among them. I hope you are well, and we do hope you'll visit again.

Response from the owner Thanks for taking the time to offer your feedback. I'm so sorry you didn't get the monkey visitors during your stay. The howlers (like all wild animals) follow the food, so it must be they were finding what they wanted in my neighbor's yard this week. I've noticed fewer monkeys this week, but i've also seen a lot more sloths, some very low in the trees, there have also been several iguanas and the macaws are going over 3-4 times a day. I don't know if the abundant presence of some are connected to the absence of others, but I do know that things change constantly here. I'm glad you enjoyed the home perched up in the trees and the proximity to the beach, I'll do my best to call the monkeys back!

Response from the owner Thank you, Christina, for the thoughtful review. I wish you could have stayed longer... we would have enjoyed a cup (or 3) of great Costa Rican coffee in the NEW ranchito that Chicho finished! It's funny, we schedule January for the construction because it's often a rainy month and tourism is low... but not this year. We are sorry that it disrupted you at all. We hope that bikes (to ride away to a quieter place) made up for it!! And yes, as you point out, we do live upstairs, and while Delgado (cat) and I are accomplished tiptoers, I can't say so much for my husband or Zuri (dog)!! Well, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! But as you point out, this really is a better match for people who like to enjoy the monkeys, parrots, and toucans that commute through at 7:00 AM then take a nice siesta in the afternoon.
