A Jungle-Beach Tree-House In Cahuita

Cahuita house

2 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 4

“Awesome Place!” Was able to stay at Topo's Tree House for a few days in late December with some friends. We visited many places in Costa Rica and Panama and this place was one of the highlights. Topo was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the Cahuita area. This is a must if you are in the Cahuita area. We were able to hear the monkeys hollering a few times while at the property. Also there are many cool frogs and other wildlife on the property. The open air feel is great and honestly we weren't overwhelmed with bugs or the elements. The reggae bar down the road is a good time at night for some good dancing and drinks as well! Over all a memorable experience that I hope to enjoy again sometime!

“Very relaxing casita on the beach.” Would highly recommend!! In fact, we have already booked two weeks next year. Amanda is a wonderful host. Not only did she make sure the casita was what we expected, but also provided information on many activities in the area. She can also help with any arrangements for those activities. The casita was clean, comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, hot water shower, and plenty of room. Great porch with the beach only a few meters away. We already miss being there!!

Angler's Lair--A little slice of heaven

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca villa

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 9

“Perfect location for the beach and jungle getaway” I have stayed in many locations on the Caribbean coast in the Puerto Viejo de Talamanca region south of Limon. I consider myself to be an itinerant traveler and I have been to this area six times in the last year. First let me say that if you want to visit any rregion in Costa Rica, this is the one. If you want to stay in any town in the area than Playa Chiquita is it. I woke up every morning for the lazy five minute walk to the beach where I'd put on my snorkling gear and go spear fishing and diving for lobster. The best restaurants in the Caribean are within easy walking distance. The best grocery is right around the corner. The house itself is so beautiful and so original it will make you rethink your concept of what a house is. Relax in the hammock listening to the night time sounds. Visit the local sloths (a pair live in a tree right outside the gate) walk to the Jaguar Rescue, an amazing attraction just down the road. This place has it all (including one of the lowest rental prices you will find). The owners, Nick and Janet are two of my favorite people in the whole world and whether you want to mingle or have privacy you get what you want. The downstairs apartment has kitchen, living room, bathroom (one of the most gorgeous you will ever see thanks to Janet's incredible ability with mosaic and a rescued single piece carved wooden sink that is mind-blowing). I've been here alone, with my wife, and as a family and it was perfect for all three. The garden deserves a review all it's own and is spectacular. In addition to this Nick and Janet own a bar/restaurant in town and the Caribbeans premier fishing charter and will gladly help you put together the dream vacation to last a lifetime!

Punta Uva villa

“Great Getaway for families!!!” We just returned from our trip to Costa Rica and stayed at the Villa Coralina and had a fantastic time! The villa was gorgeous and right from the porch we saw hummingbirds, beautiful butterflies, red-eyed tree frogs, an agouti, and a two-toed sloth!. It is just a 2 minute walk to beautiful, uncrowded beaches. Monica and Evi from Habitat Vacation Rentals were very attentive to our needs, both before we arrived and during our stay. We (parents and 3 teenagers) were very happy with the whole experience and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Costa Rica jungle in style!

Brand new very cute Jungle Beach House

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 5

“Great jungle house” This is a great two bedroom home right in the jungle, with Andrews home right up behind. Andrews two dogs are very friendly and provide extra security for home. You can feel very safe here. There is a small but adequate kitchen as we cooked breakfast and dinner here when we didn't eat at Andrews restaurant Chili Rojo located right in the heart of downtown Puerto Viejo. We spent all our time on the porch as bugs were not much of a problem we used a ala coil which burns very slowly and seems to do the trick. Beds are very comfortable and we slept like a baby as the saying goes. Howler monkeys do start about 6am but we got used to it not a big deal. No A/C but ceiling fans do a good job. If you want a costa rican jungle experience and don't need all the amenities this is your place.

About Province of Limon

Warm, clear waters and pristine white sands lined with coconut trees… no wonder Limon is regularly referred to as 'the ultimate tropical paradise.'

A Caribbean island with lush green mangrove wetlands overshadowed by the impressive Cordillera de Talamanca mountain range, Limon pretty much comes with everything in terms of scenic beauty.

Find your perfect vacation rental in the heart of it all with FlipKey. It's the best way to experience Limon.

About the Province of Limon

A stopping-off point for the explorer Christopher Columbus back in 1502—with many modern cruise ships still dropping off passengers here toda—Limon nestles between Nicaragua and Panama in the Caribbean Lowlands. It's beautiful, quiet beaches stretch for around 125 miles, while its noisy and bustling capital takes its name from the island itself, Puerto Limon.

Less of a tourist trap than other Caribbean spots, it's less developed than other islands. Nevertheless, this Afro-Caribbean island does have a culture it likes to show off to visitors via museums, national attractions and unusual architecture.

The island takes care to protect endangered species and has both a Turtle and a Sloth Sanctuary. The latter involves a canoe trip to watch the sloths in their natural habitat, while the turtles can be spotted nesting on the beach at Tortuguero National Park in the north of the island.

What to do in Limon, Costa Rica

You might be lucky enough to see a sloth hanging from a palm tree in Parque Vargas in Puerto Limon. Certainly you will spot a statue of the town's 'founding father' Christopher Columbus.

If you fancy a boogie while in Puerto Limon, then head for the nightclub at Ninja's Bar or the top floor of the Hotel Acon for some reggae and salsa action. Beforehand, try out some local Caribbean dishes such as a meat, rice, beans and plantain offering called Casados, or Sopa de Mondongo (tripe soup and vegetables).

The most popular beaches on the island—and where you'll find restaurants and bars shading under palm trees—are at Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo and Playa Bonita.

Go for a swing down the Rainforest Ariel Tramway at the Port in Puerto Limon. You'll get a fantastic bird's eye view of the Braulio Carrillo National Park and its wildlife.

Top travel tips for Limon, Costa Rica

Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose is the nearest airport to Puerto Limon. Take a half-hour taxi ride to the Caribe Bus terminal in San Jose for around $19, or catch a red and white bus to San Jose domestic bus terminal at the airport for just $1 (it's then a five-minute taxi ride to the Caribe terminal for $2).

Visit during the second week in October and you'll hit the annual festival 'Carnaval'. This means plenty of food, dancing and music—10 days’ worth, in fact!

Also, it's a good idea to carry a rain lightweight poncho—even in the dry season.

Limon is a beautiful island that offers the quiet wonder of nature in its tropical forests and white sandy beaches, yet also boasts the color and vibrancy of a bustling town in its capital city. Be sure to visit before the secret gets out and developers arrive!

Beachfront Ocean View Villa 1
It was awesome, make it a 10 star!

Angler's Lair--A little slice of heaven
I can't stop thinking about this place

My girlfriend and I picked Angler's Lair based on the recommendation of a friend that stayed there a couple years ago. It is the most peaceful and serene house one could ever hope to luck up on the jungle. Clean, quiet (but for the "music" from the amazing wildlife) and relaxing. Janet and Nick are so down to earth and genuinely kind people and they did a great job of balancing how often they came around to check to see if we needed anything and giving us privacy. Nick even gave us an "orientation bike ride" around the area to make sure we'd know where to find the best beach spots and the closest places to grab food. Oh! They also have the sweetest dog that drops in every so often to hear about your adventures! This is absolutely a great place to stay and it gives you the full experience of the jungle and the beach.see more

The Pearl of the Caribbean - Beach & Jungle Villas
Great Location / Gorgeous property

Close to town, into jungle and wildlife viewing setting, a few steps away from the most beautiful beach. My family of 5 [2,4, 7 year old children] enjoyed very much our stay at La Perla de Caribe. Cocles beach is swimmable most of the year, and it was during our stay. Suggestable to rent a car if you have a young family as mine, but we prefered not, calling a cab when needed *10 minuts and they were home*. We enjoyed to relax and unwind and loved white sandy Cocles beach. A visit of the Jaguar rescue center is recommendable. The house is very nice and clean, well equped and just perfect. Warm owners made us feel home. We were very happy with our stay and we will come back for sure. Jason and the familysee more
C1 Coralina Comfortable Chic Bungalow *AC*
Delightful vacation

We enjoyed our stay (during Feb-March) at Villa Coralina very much! It's located in a rustic area that is convenient to gorgeous beaches, grocery stores, restaurants and attractions. It's withing biking distance of Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo, although the bus can be caught at the end of the drive to take you to either place. Aureliano, the caretaker, and Yolanda, the housekeeper are wonderful, sweet people who perform their duties well, and are happy to point out wildlife that might be nearby. Although our Spanish is very poor, they were patient and helpful when we tried to communicate...the property manager, Monica, was also very accommodating, answering all questions and any emails in a timely way. We found Villa Coralina to be a sweet combination of outdoor and indoor living. It's well-built, and each side is very private from the other. The landscape around us was lovely with grass and flowers, but rustic enough to invite many kinds of birds, butterflies and lizards to come explore. We loved the company of howler monkeys and sloths when they came near, as well. We would only suggest two improvements: the kitchen needs to be supplied with much sharper knives...we did a lot of our own cooking, and were frustrated by the lack of good cutting utensils. The only other suggestion we would make is that the bathroom needs better lighting....specifically above the mirror. The overhead light was not bright, and having no mirror lighting made shaving and grooming difficult. All in all, it's rental is 99% wonderful, and we'd return anytime!see more
Canopy House with the most memorizing view!
I never want to leave this paradise!

I could seriously stay here forever and have stayed for up to month, but it never feels like enough time! There are stretches of beautiful beaches within walking distance, most with hardly any people on them! This is the kind of place you go to get away from it all. If you don't want to see a highway or a McDonald's or Hilton, then this is the place for you. The house is its own sight to see and at times, hard to pry yourself away from. We hang out on the beautiful decks every morning and afternoon and watch what we call the "Nature Show". The jungle is so alive and at times we're running from lookout to lookout trying to take everything in..."howler monkey's off the back deck...toucans out front...sloth in the back yard...!" There's also plenty to do in and around town, so get out and explore the beaches, go kayaking, ask the locals how to get to the waterfalls, snorkel, fish, zip line, raft, go on a 4WD adventure or just relax on the beach with a fresh pipa (coconut-like fruit)! There's an endless selection of restaurants to try. Hit up the local spots and also check out all the amazing international food. It seems like chefs from around the world have migrated here and are serving up delicious foods from their home countries. I could talk about the food for hours. Feel free to email me direct of you want more info. I've been going down here for years now and love to pass on all the great tips and tricks I've discovered. PURA VIDA!see more
