“Great time in Costa Rica, memories to last a lifetime.” Condo was perfectly appointed. Comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, plenty of towels. Million dollar views. Air conditioner worked like a charm. Great pool and workout facility. Restaurant served wonderful breakfast. Grocery shopping, restaurants and bars nearby. We would definitely stay here again.

Villa 4 Las Brisas-Award Winner!

Playa Hermosa villa

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Paradise...check” My family found paradise ...Playa Hermosa. A very quaint town not overly run with tourist attractions. This condo was amazing. It was clean and comfortable with many fantastic amenities. We grilled out during a big football game here in the states. We swam laps and splashed around in the clean and quiet pool just feet from the condo. We were able to capture beautiful sunsets from the second floor balcony. The property staff also gave us limes and bananas picked on site that morning. A few step from the condo gets you to the ocean where the waves are crashing and the monkeys are playing over head. The on-site managers were friendly, kind, and very helpful suggesting things to do and see. The area was very safe. We all agreed we will return!

“Great Costa Rica getaway!” Costa Rica is such a beautiful country and we were able to enjoy it at this great condo! It was very affordable and had everything we needed. There is a pool right outside the door (which was never crowded) and we had a view of a beautiful waterfall. The other condo owners/tenants were wonderful as well! Property Management was great and helped us out with logistics, day trips and car rental details!

Liberia cottage

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Paradise” We stayed in the 2 floor cabin with two bedrooms with our son's family and had a wonderful week! The hosts (Eladio and Vanessa)and staff make you feel like family! The gracias hostess brought out toys for the grandchildren and sent fruit from their trees for us to enjoy! We loved the pool which is very clean and does not have the bleach smell. As they talked with us by the pool we learned more of Guanacaste. The birds were absolutely beautiful. We saw: White-ringed Fly Catcher, humming birds, green parrots, Blue Crowned Motmot (which is usually only down in Cabo Blanco), Morning Doves, a Baltimore Orial, Blue Grey Tanger, and Bronze head Black Bird. We went to the Volcano (Vieja)one day but it was closed due to activity. So we walked down the the nearby falls. Absolutely gorgeous. Wear your bathing suit! Another day we went to a beach near Nicaragua but the water there was too cold due to the Humbult current - like the Gulf stream up North that warms the water, this stream cools the water. I recommend Colebra! It is only 30 minutes away and absolutely beautiful. Bring your bug spray though. Only the mattresses will make you want to go home. They were a little hard, but normal for the area.

Pacifico - Fabulous Ocean View New 2 Bed 2 Bath

Playas del Coco apartment

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“Absolutely perfect!” This has been one of the most beautiful vacation rentals I have had the pleasure of staying in. The photos don't do this place justice. I was blown away by the panoramic ocean views from the balcony and how meticulously the condo and community grounds are maintained. The furnishings are brand new and very high-end, especially for Costa Rica. The king bed is extremely comfortable with quality linens, and I'm sure the queen bed in the spare bedroom is just as comfortable, even though it wasn't used. The condo is very secure and in a gated community that is guarded 24/7 which was a nice reassurance. Pacifico is also within walking distance to everywhere in Coco that you'd need to go. I would not hesitate recommending this accommodation to anyone visiting Costa Rica. This is truly the best place you could stay in Playas del Coco, it doesn't get any better! Thank you Dave for your wonderful hospitality.

THE RED SUNSET OF GUANACASTE, LODGING ABOVE THE REST AND A FRIEND IN THE AREA!!!

Nuevo Arenal villa

6 bedrooms / 7 bathrooms / sleeps 19

“Wow! You'll love the Red Sunset!” Are you looking for a luxury guesthouse near Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano? If so, look no further and book yourself into the Red Sunset. My husband and I, along with six friends, spent a week in March there. We are so glad we did! We found the accommodations to be everything they were advertised and more. The views are amazing and the house, pool house and grounds will give you plenty of opportunities to relax and explore. While the guesthouse is excellent, the very best feature is the owner/operator Patrick. Patrick met with us each day to help us plan activities and make reservations with the best tour operators. His local knowledge and recommendations were spot on each day, and his help was invaluable. The breakfast provided each morning was a highlight unto itself. Come prepared to eat well – you won’t be disappointed. We’ve never had meals of this quality at similar style lodgings. We also took advantage of the optional evening Chef services. While there were several great places to eat in the Lake Arenal area, all of which were recommended to us by Patrick, you won’t beat the meals prepared by Patrick and his wife. Our favorite was the Chicken Parmesan – sorry, Mom, but it was the best we’ve had anywhere! The Red Sunset was the perfect place for our Costa Rica vacation. We arrived as guests and soon felt like family. We’re glad we chose the Red Sunset!

About Province of Guanacaste

More than 400 miles of beautiful rocky coastline and white sandy beaches, looked over by mountainous valleys and lush rainforests with stunning waterfalls and volcanic thermal waters. What more could you want from the Province of Guanacaste and its resplendent natural beauty?

Discover it all by booking your vacation rental on FlipKey, and enjoy the warm dry heat during Europe and North America's cold bitter winters.

About the Province of Guanacaste

Named after the Guanacaste Tree (also referred to as the Ear Pod Tree), the national tree of Costa Rica, Guanacaste has only just started thinking about tourism. But it doesn't show!

This area has a long history full of beef cattle ranchers and tree plantations…  it's really an agricultural area more than anything else. Sugar cane, cotton and rice remain big exports and prevents too much development within the province.

Other sections of Guanacaste Province are designated National Parks. There are, in fact, seven of them; the largest being Guanacaste, Santa Rosa and Rincón de la Vieja. Because of this, and the local agriculture, you'll find Guanacaste a quiet, peaceful and un-disrupted natural area.

However, if you're looking for the tourist hot spots, head to Papagayo, Conchal, Tamarindo, and El Coco. They're close to some of the most stunning beaches in the region!

What to do

Go surfing at Playa Avellana Beach near Tamarindo. Waves from the Pacific surf are big enough for experienced surfers, while guides are on-hand to teach beginners. Watch the top surfers while drinking cocktails at Lola's beachside bar and cafe.

Take a guided trek through the rainforest and along the beautiful light blue Celeste River in Tenorio Volcano National Park. The 7-km hike involves several uphill climbs but en route you'll encounter fascinating thermal springs and the gorgeous Rio Celeste Waterfall.

Visit Playa Conchal Beach, rated one of the top in Costa Rica (and there's plenty of competition). It gets its name from the fact the sand is comprised of crushed shells. The water here is stunning; changing from turquoise to green as you venture further out.

Catch a rodeo in Liberia. There's several throughout the year and a large event on July 25th when the province celebrates its independence from Nicaragua - it was over 200 years ago, but still a good reason for a party!

Top Guanacaste travel tips

The best time to visit is between November to April, when you're guaranteed very little rain.

There are daily flights direct to Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. The city is four hours’ drive from Puerto Rica's capital San Jose.

Local buses (many of which are former yellow US school buses) will pick up on main roads and other non-designated spots. Just let the driver know you want to get on.

Guanacaste is a little bit of paradise. It's a beautiful tropical location where you can hike, surf, watch wildlife and go sailing. You can even learn about the exotic flora and fauna of the wetlands and rainforests during your stay.

4 Bedroom 4 Bath Beach House 100' from the Ocean
Amazing vacation!!!

I just want to start off by saying this is going to be a long review, but will be very helpful for anyone wanting to come visit Costa Rica. It took me about a month to find out where to go, what to do, where to stay and I hope this helps many people!! Our trip to Costa Rica started off in Arenal. We landed in San Jose and drove 3 hrs to Arenal. Stayed there for 3 days. We did zip lining, white water rafting, ATV ride and the hot springs. Everything was great and so much fun! It is recommended to do these activities in Arenal because it's much more exciting. Then we drove 4 hrs to Playa Potrero and stayed in Casa Cerca Del Mar. Saioa the property manager was there with the keys and she introduced us to Benito the guard. They are both very nice people. Saioa gave us a tour of the house and said if we needed anything she was just 2 blocks away. She was very hospitable and any time we needed her she was there. The house is just like the pictures. 4 bedrooms, 3 downstairs and the master upstairs. The 3 bathrooms downstairs are all renovated and beautiful. I loved the tile in the house because it is great for a house on the beach. The kitchen and family room were spacious and fit all of us. The washer and dryer are outside in their own room and the washer is new. The dryer is the older ones but I personally like them better than the new ones because they dry clothes much faster. We were provided with detergent and fabric softener and that really helped especially after being in Arenal for 3 days, we had a lot of laundry. Only thing I would change would be the master bathroom. The shower is nice but the shower head, sink and walls should be renovated like the ones downstairs. The pool was great to have and there was a grill, unfortunately the grill did not work well. We think it's the charcoal they have in Costa Rica because we were provided with charcoal and it was weak so we went out and bought more, but we had the same issue. It took 3 hours to make hamburgers and hot dogs and in the end I cooked them in the oven lol. The beach is less than a minute away walking and it was breathtaking! The sand was soft and the beach was clean. At night the crabs would come out and that was cool. The views from the terrace and balcony were also beautiful, but it would be nicer if they would finish remodeling the house next door so the sunset would show better. There was a super market just up the street that was convenient and some places to eat. We had pizza 1 time which was really good and casado, plantain chips, fried plantains and fried tacos from another place next door to the pizza place and the owner Kenya was very friendly and her food was amazing! We also ate at coco loco tge first night we got there and their food was delicious. Right on Playa Flamingo. It was my daughters birrhday and the mariache band sang happy birhtday to her which was sweet. The closest gas station is 30 mins away and Walmart is in Liberia which is 1 hr away. I recommend stopping there for groceries and necessities on your way to the house instead of driving back the next day. They open at 8 am btw. Never drive at night in Costa Rica because everything is on the mountains and it is dangerous to drive late. There are cows, horses, sheep and goats everywhere and they may roam the streets. On our way during day light there was a random cow in the middle of the road which was cool, but not safe. There aren't lights on the roads so that doesn't help either. It gets dark at 6 pm every day so make plans accordingly to arrive early. The roads are very bumpy and most of them aren't paved so I recommend renting a 4x4 if you're going to be driving. We went ATV riding on the beach which was very nice and a different experience than the one on the mountain. We rented with Justin he has a company for activities. Very nice gentleman and the tour was beautiful. We got to see the different beaches around Guanacaste and found out that there is an American supermarket on the way not too far from the house called Merkdo. It's pricey though, but available. The drive back to the airport in San Jose took 4 hours so I would leave the day before if you have an early flight because you never know what could happen. All in all our time here in Costa Rica was great! A week was plenty of time to see and explore this beautiful country and booking with Tom was a breeze. He answered ALL of my emails and texts in a timely fashion and was very accomodating. Getting to the house was explained by a map sent by Saioa. Oh and also make sure you have internet because you will definitely need navigation! I recommend coming to visit Costa Rica and staying in this house. You won't be disappointed! It is perfect for families with children of all ages!!see more

Nice

Was as advertised. Beautiful place, iguanas, squirrels and howler monkeys on the property. Darn monkeys howling at 4 am but loved it. Beach was fantastic. We were all alone on the property. Only thing I might have liked a little more contact with owners. We were a little unsure but figure it out. Thanks Linasee more

We stayed a week here and loved every minute of it. Barbara and Lawrence are very friendly and so very helpful. They helped us a great deal to get settled in with everything that we would need for a fabulous stress free vacation in Costa Rica. The location is handy to so many of the must see and do attractions of the area. We hope that we are able to visit again soon. Not only did we have a great vacation we made new friends. Westin Playa Conchal - On the Golf Course
Comfortable, convenient, laid back, all inclusive stay

We arrived and were greeted by smiling bell men, valet attendants, and check in staff. It's a beautiful facility from the entrance throughout the property. Myself, my husband, and adult son stayed in 2 separate but adjoining condos. One was a king, the other 2 queens which had a large well equipped kitchen. We never used it, as we chose the all inclusive package, but the refrigerator was nice to have. Because my husband is a lifetime SPG Platinum member it entitled the 2 of us to the upgraded all inclusive package which was a nice surprise. We upgraded our son so he could join us. The regular all inclusive package was more than adequate and would be ideal for families with younger children. The upgrade included the all adult pool, all adult restaurants for breakfast and lunch and priority dinner options. The condo was on the golf course and although we did not face the course it was in a nice location on the second (top) floor. There was an abundance of wildlife at the resort. The howler monkeys were present a majority of the time as well as their version of the raccoon in addition to the abundance of birds and iguana. There is transportation to take you from the condo to restaurants, pools, etc but we opted to walk a majority of the time. We always felt safe and (except the front desk which we only needed upon check in and check out) nothing is very far away. There is a good array of restaurants and food choices as well as 24 hour room service with the upgraded all inclusive. We travel extensively and many times the food can be described as "okay" but here there were a number of dining options that were diverse and the food was above board. We did not go to the evening shows. There is one bar open later but it is a crapshoot on whether it will be filled with families or adults. Prettier than most we've seen in Costa Rica the beach is adequate but it is public as most if not all beaches in CR are. They do have people who sell items and services as soon as you walk out of the resort and hit the beach but they were respectful when you told them no. We didn't spend much time on the beach and the time we did spend we walked down the beach, through a pass onto another much less populated beach and into a small town where you can find beach restaurants and small stores with souvenirs and basic convenience store items like drinks, clothes, and floats. It's an enjoyable walk. We were at Westin Playa Conchal for the week of Christmas but everything ran as usual. Unfortunately for the staff no days off, but the service remained stellar. The adult pool (Royal Beach Club) is the only one we used and it had excellent wait staff, bar tenders and attendants every day. I used the gym on a couple occasions throughout the week. It is a well equipped gym. One day it was packed, the next pretty empty so it varied. It has a nice view overlooking the golf course and a small pond. We had no real hiccups during our stay. Everything went very smoothly. The staff are professional and on top of things. This was a perfect choice for us for the holiday and the set up was ideal for both privacy and family time.see more
