Casa Tordesillas, a sustainable way of life

Aguas Buenas villa

  • 5 bedrooms
  • 10 bathrooms
  • sleeps 15

“Life is simply beautiful at Casa Tordesillas” Never have I (voluntarily!) gotten up so early in the morning as when a group of friends and I stayed at this amazing place with Chema and Marga. You couldn't wish for a more serene and yet spectacular sunrise (or sundown)with matching views than this. It's a truly inspiring place in many ways. Chema and Marga understand the art of hospitality and offer a comfortable stay with lots of possibilities to discover the area, also on horseback. Nature's great, food is good and there's so much to simply experience and enjoy in the amenities. It's exactly the place you are looking for to really get away from everyday life.

Nice, cozy and spacious family home in Escazú-Vista Alegre
Beautiful, spacious, private

This modern home is perfect for a family. It is spacious and clean, and has a great yard. It is private and secure, and very comfortable. It is very close to San Jose and the Multi Plaza mall. It is also very close to many great restaurants and grocery stores. We stayed 5 days, and it always felt good to come back to this comfy, cozy home! The owner, Edgar, answered all my questions, and the caretaker, Cindy was great, and very helpful! If you are visiting San Jose, I highly recommend! Thank You for a fabulous stay!see more
Casa de Piedra Escazú
Historical House.

The town of Escazu is on the outskirts of San Jose. So you have San Jose to explore, if you enjoy big city life. The house is 150 years old and was owned by a coffee plantation owner. We stayed in the largest of the three rooms available. We had a king size bed and a outside balcony. The bathroom is shared with one of the other bedrooms, but we were the only people staying in the three weeks we were there. There are grocery stores and coffee cafés within walking distance. The town is on the side of the mountain, so you need to be able to walk up and down the hills. The owners were wonderful to us and the maid service was the best we ever had. She would clean the room, change the sheets on the bed and give us clean towel every two days. She also did our laundry, but we did give her money for doing that. The house offers yoga classes several times a week. They also have a weekly nightly meditation session. They also did some detoxing treatments on us for free. San Jose has several museums and night clubs where you can dance the night away. The tours to the volcanoes, the rain forests, beaches and other atractions are 2 to 4 hours away. Some of the tours could be further. The weekly farmers market in town is wonderful. There is a great pizza restaurant just up the hill from the house. Further up the mountain their are other restaurant that have breathtaking views of San Jose. Uber is available and is much cheaper than taxis. If you want to live with the locals and not in a hotel resort, then this is the place for you. Their is no TV’s, but their is WiFi. The only thing missing was a jacuzzi hot tub. They have a nice garden area for one jacuzzi and hopefully they will put one in someday soon.see more
Casa Tordesillas, a sustainable way of life
Wish I could have stayed a month

The setting here couldn't be better. On a hill, just above a pass, with a view of the Pacific from 1000m up. Well preserved forest behind the house and across the street. Howler Monkeys and an absolute plethora of neo-tropical birds great you each morning. Chema and Marga are veteran hosts and made me feel at home immediately in their beautiful, slightly rustic, hand-built house. Each meal from Marga's kitchen was a celebration of freshness. Healthy, plentiful and delicious described every one of the 14 meals I had with them, always accompanied with great conversation. Casa Tordesillas is an inspiration to anyone how has ever considered living off the grid and in tune with your natural surroundings. Off the grid may sound like roughing it, but to the contrary Chema and Marga (and guests) live quite comfortably. If you have at least a small sense of adventure, you'll be quite comfortable here as well. The climate in early april was fantastic. It warmed up quickly in the mornings, but by mid-day there were always some clouds and a nice cool breeze from the Pacific and remained a very comfortable temperature through the night. I'm already trying to figure out when I can return.see more
Mango Loft on the Rio Chirripo
The Best Vacation of My Life

Not for everyone, but perfect for me. If you want a base camp in the central valley from which to explore Costa Rica, a private remote location, or a place to relax and be alone consider Mango Loft. This is a beautifully maintained property with lots of fruit trees and tropical plants. Your hostess and owner, Anita, is a charming lady who can help you plan outings, teach you about local culture, take care of your every need, or leave you alone if that’s your desire. Having arrived late the previous night, I greatly appreciated the breakfast of coffee and fresh fruit she provided my first morning. The rental is the top floor of a two-unit house which is typical Costa Rican style, very open, no need for heat or air conditioning, private entrance, with constant sound of rushing water from the nearby river. It is gated and feels quite safe. The lower unit was occupied but I never heard a sound from below. During my two week stay, much to my surprise, I never saw a single mosquito. The only bugs I saw indoors were a few moths attracted by the lights at night. The bed has a mosquito net but I did not need to use it. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances. The only negative I can sight is difficulty finding the place. If you have been to Costa Rica before or have done your homework you know that there are no addresses, no house numbers, no street names, and few marked roads. GPS is a must (make sure to rent one with your car) but it is programmed by “points of interest” or coordinates rather that addresses. At my suggestion, Anita will be adding the GPS coordinates to her driving instructions which should make it easy to find Mango Loft. There is a large town (small city?) 15 minutes away and the surfers beach, Playa Dominical, a little over an hour drive. My two week stay at Mango Loft was the best vacation I’ve ever had. I strongly recommend it. My thanks to Anita for helping make my stay so enjoyable.see more

Great Stay

We had a great time in Costa Rica, and a huge part of that was Cedar Cats short stay apartments. Everything was as expected from the description on Flipkey, so I won't go over that again. What was not readily apparent was the nice area that it is located in close to shops, restaurants and near good transportation routes. Also we tried a couple of nearby Restaurant suggestions in the intro binder and they were great, specifically le petite France, and il pomodoro, great people and even better food.see more
