Description

Coed Adam Farmhouse is a traditional Welsh cottage, sympathetically restored to retain many character features. Overlooking the gorgeous Gwendraeth Fach Valley, with distant views towards the Black Mountains of Carmarthenshire, Coed Adam enjoys an elevated yet secluded south facing position amid 10 acres of grassland meadow. Surrounded by farmland, you will stay in a peaceful and tranquil place, amid beautiful wildlife. Buzzards and Red Kites are regular visitors, with the occasional visit of a Barn Owl a special treat. Despite being a rural retreat, Coed Adam is a perfect location to explore from.

If you can muster the willingness to leave this tranquil retreat, an amble through the meandering country lanes to The White Hart Thatched Inn and Brewery is highly recommended. Brewing its own traditional, hand-crafted ales, lagers and stouts from a blend of malted barley, hops and water from 300ft beneath its floors and serving a menu based on fine local produce, this exceptional country pub is hard to resist. In fact there are so many delights that are hard to resist within easy striking distance, that you’ll be spoilt for choice. Whether panning for gold at the Dolau Cothi gold mines, galloping through the surf on horseback at Cefn Sidan or admiring the incredible view from the top of Paxton’s Tower, Carmarthenshire offers a vast, memorable and diverse array of facilities, adventures, sights and experiences.

The historic, County town of Carmarthen itself, offers adventure aplenty: shops, pubs, restaurants, galleries, cinema and various other entertainment venues, along with an enormous, Sunday morning car boot sale, make it a town that caters for all. It lays claim to being the oldest town in Wales, originating from AD75; a Roman amphitheatre that remains here is one of just 7 in the UK. Legend has it that Carmarthen was the birth-place of Merlin, the wizard of Arthurian folklore; something lauded annually at the summer festival celebrating all things myth and magical at Carmarthen Park. The Angel Vaults Restaurant provides a great venue for lunches or evening meals when out and about exploring this intriguing place.

For coastal adventure, just 15 miles from Coed Adam, the 202 hectares of Pembrey Country Park with its 8 miles of award-winning Cefn Sidan beach, is hard to beat. Speed down its dry ski slope, or laze away the afternoon on its sparkling golden sands: the park offers something to appeal to everyone. Walkers and cyclists will love the miles and miles of paths and trails put in place for people to enjoy this stunning coastline. Amble over to the Millennium Coastal Park and hire a bike from Merlin’s Cycles at the Visitor Centre. From tandems to child trailers, all needs are catered for to enjoy the 22 miles of walkway/cycle path hugging the coastline. The Celtic Cycle Trail invites you to adventure further still and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Gower Peninsular (the first place in the UK to be designated as ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) around to The Mumbles, Swansea Marina and beyond.

Sports enthusiasts of all kinds are so well catered for in this stunning county. The National Motor Sports Centre of Wales and Ffos Las Racecourse, the UK’s newest, are nearby, while clubs and facilities ensure you can take to the water in whatever way you choose. Fishermen are left spoilt for choice with such easy access to so many coastal and river sites and a choice of award-winning local fisheries. Golfers are particularly well catered for; unparalleled coastal views are on offer at the Ashburnham Golf Club, the venue for the semi-finals of The Ryder Cup and four other 18 hole clubs, with pay as you play membership, lie within easy striking distance.

Numerous castles, splendid beaches, nature reserves, gardens, zoos, coastal paths, quaint seaside towns and villages, water adventure of every kind, theme parks and much, much more lie waiting to be discovered. However, summoning the will to leave the idyllic Coed Adam is the biggest challenge for everyone!
