Stamford, ConnecticutFabulous Setting, Great Location, Fantastic Experience
Left on 06/10/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We stayed in this wonderful Villa in early May. We could not have been happier. Illaria and her family did all they could to make our stay memorable. The villa itself has great views everywhere you look and a sunset while you grill and eat on the patio. The 14th Century farmhouse is completely updated: excellent kitchen, bathrooms and beds, furnishings and amenities. The location is convenient for visiting all areas of Tuscany, Florence and Siena. The property is nestled in Olive groves and vineyards and Illaria grows her own wine, which is excellent by the way. I can't say enough good things about this incredible property.

This is a gorgeous property, very commodious and well equipped. San Casciano is well located for touring. The villa provides a comfortable base to visit throughout Tuscany. Ilaria and her family were tremendously helpful: providing touring ideas, dinner reservations, guides and more. The rooms are large and comfortable; the furnishings are lovely.

An excellent home base for exploring the Chianti region
Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in September 2012
As an american making his first trip to Italy, I felt very comfortable with our choice of accomodations. Our hostess, Ilaria, was very gracious and provided many helpful insights into exploring the region. She spoke fluent English and helped to make important reservations for us for tour guides and restaurants. Visitors should be aware that many of the smaller Villas prefer to deal in cash, and this one is no exception.
Portions of the Villa date back to 1000 ad, which adds an interesting perspective--the facility has been beautifully updated and provides comfortable accomodations for up to three couples. It should be noted that there is only one queen bed (first floor) in the villa; the remaining bedrooms (upstairs) have twin beds. A well-equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher made it possible to prepare meals, and an excellent grocery store is only about five minutes away. A swimming pool overlooking an idyllic Tuscan valley provided a wonderful refresher at the end of the day.
The villa is about 30 minutes south of Florence and is located in a rural area, so a car is mandatory unless you are an experienced cyclist. We were an hours drive or less from such cities as Sienna, Lucca and Pisa.
Overall, an extraordinary find and an excellent value. One last tip--ask Ilaria for the GPS coordinates to locate the villa. None of the mapping programs seemed to be able to locate the villa by address. -

We stopped here quite by accident and had a very nice reception from the couple here. They welcomed us in and allowed us to taste their gorgeous wine - a Chianti Classico. A marvelous afternoon! Many thanks and we will be taking home several bottles!!

Left on 07/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My family of six--two grandparents, two parents, two children (11 & 13) stayed at Podere La Villa for a week. The villa was beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. Each bedroom had its own bathroom with excellent water pressure in the shower. Ilaria, the owner, had all the necessary amenities for us: large towels, soap, shampoo. She even had stocked the refrigerator with milk, orange juice, butter, yogurt, bread, and gave us a bottle of the family wine. The children enjoyed the large pool after a hot day of touring. There were two tables outside for eating and even a BBQ. The setting was magnificent--one of the prettiest we saw in all of Tuscany. The location was perfect--about a 20 minute drive to Florence and no more than 1-1/2 hours to all the small towns we wanted to visit: Sienna, Pisa, Voltare, Lucca, etc. The villa was also less than 10 minutes to a lovely town with a large grocery store, the coop. The charming center of the town had wonderful restaurants. We would definitely stay there again and recommend the property with one exception: Ilaria, her husband, and two young children (3 and 5) live in a separate part of the building and you can hear their activities. We found them to be a delightful family, but think carefully if you want total peace and quiet., it may not be for you. Only one other concern: a washing machine is available, but it costs 8 euros a load to use.

We are a family of 4, with children of 14 and 12. We all enjoyed our stay at Podere la villa and have many happy memories. The situation is amazing and yet so convenient for the town, food shopping, Florence and the other sights in Tuscany. The house is very comfortable and well furnished. The pool was very much appreciated by us all and especially after a hot day sightseeing. Ilaria was always on hand to offer advice and recommendations, especially when driving into Florence! We would recommend the villa without hesitation.

Our visit to the Tuscan countryside was a terrific experience, thanks to Ilaria and her family and her delightful villa. We especially appreciated hearing the background and history of the lovely villa (some elements from the 14th century, etc), and what happened near it during Wwii. The Chianti town of San Casciano was very close and we loved eating at the country-style Tuscan restaurants every night. Location of the villa was perfect--the most beautiful countryside you can imagine, and smack dab in the middle of working vineyards of the Chianti region. Ilaria asked for our opinion on her newest vintage, and we were very happy indeed to provide it (consensus: Yum). Would we return here? Just try to stop us!
Just as a Btw--the villa's address does show up in the sat navigation system, so no problems finding the place. -

The Villa was spacious, had excellent facilities and was ideally suited to touring the whole of the Tuscany region. The standard of furnishings and facilities was high and the owner Ilaria was a great help, very approachable and most friendly.
Our stay was memorable for all the right reasons and the position of the villa, high up and out of the village in the centre of a vineyard with stunning views. The villa was close to local amenities and food shops ( only a 5 minute drive ), yet quietly tucked away. We were unable to use the available swimming pool due to it being early in the season, but this would be another excellent facility for the warmer weather. -

Left on 01/26/2012 for a stay in June 2010
We first stayed in Podere La Villa in 2006 while travelling with another couple. We found the villa nestled in between olive groves and vineyards with picturesque, quintessentially Tuscan, views across the valleys to hills and villages beyond. We were given a warm welcome on arrival by the very charming (and multilingual) Ilaria who familiarised us with the villa and the surrounding area before sending us to dinner in the nearby town of San Casciano.
The accommodations comprise three double bedrooms set over several levels in a large villa providing a good sense of privacy between the rooms. There is a generous lounge/dining room and separate atrium room for relaxing indoors. The kitchen is large and we used it as our dining room for informal meals. We found everything we needed to cook fairly sophisticated meals. There are two outside patio areas with brick barbeques for dining al fresco and we found these to be a fantastic way to enjoy the weather and scenery. If cooking is not for you then there are a variety of good restaurants within minutes. There are laundry facilities available so you can stay fresh during your stay. The ‘infinity’ swimming pool area is set at the top of the vineyards with a stunning view over the vines and the valley. The location is fantastic for walking as there is little traffic and a number of valleys presenting good views.
The location of Podere la Villa is ideal for anyone wanting to explore Tuscany with quick access to major routes so that you will spend more time at your destination and not having to wind up and down a mountain for an hour each way. It is an easy 15 minute drive (or bus) into Florence and just minutes from the motorways to Siena, Pisa, Lucca and further afield. The Chianti villages are a short drive up the road. All this while being quietly tucked away in a tranquil location that feels a million miles from the busy modern world.
Ilaria is very knowledgeable about wine and can arrange wine tours and winery visits. One evening Ilaria arranged a local chef to cook a beautiful meal at the villa and Ilaria conducted a wine tasting to go with the food. It was one of our most enjoyable evenings on the trip.
For anyone happy with self-catering vacations we cannot recommend Podere la Villa highly enough. We absolutely love it there and we now count Ilaria among our dearest of friends. Our highest recommendation is that we have returned several times and look forward to visiting again in 2012. -

I have had the great pleasure of staying at the beautiful Podere La Villa, many times. Each time, I have been enchanted with this lovely little villa and it's comfortable, clean and quiet accommodations. It's host, Ilaria Tachis is charming and a wonderful source of information about Tuscany, it's wines, etc. The villa is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region, conveniently close to the extraordinary city of Florence and many of the finest wine estates in Tuscany. I'm proud to say that I have become good friends with the Tachis family over the years and I wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful villa (and their fantastic wine!!) to anyone who is thinking of taking a vacation in the heart of Tuscany. You will not be disappointed!

We come to Podere la Villa the last ten years very often. Sometimes twice a year, spring and autumn. The owner, Mrs. Tachis became a dear friend throughout all our visits. She helps with all the questions you have and knows all about wine. She even makes her own good wine. Wonderful house with good equiped kitchen and sitting room. Nice bathrooms and bedrooms with colored linen. The garden around the house is lovely kept with roses and other beautiful plants and flowers. The pool is very nice with a great view around at wine land and olive trees. We love the place and the city San Casciano val di Pesa. Lots of nice restaurants. And by bus to Florence. Easy does it.

We tell everyone what a great time we had staying at villa podere in tuscany. Ilaria was so very helpful and gracious and the accommodations just perfect. We still think about the cypress trees, the scented rosemary bushes and the beautiful roses in the yard. It was a trip we will never forget and one that will be hard to duplicate.

I cannot describe the beauty surrounding this house. I watched the sun rise every morning over the olive crops on the neighboring hillside. Of the many happy memories created here, a favorite is the nectarines Ilaria brought from her trees to the kitchen each day -- they were the best I ever tasted. Every day spent at the house was gorgeous, sun-filled, happy and relaxed. Coming from NYC, it was a complete change of lifestyle (and much needed). We hired a chef to prepare dinner for our last evening, and dining outside with family and Ilaria was magical. Just go.
