Paris Champion apartment-fun, cheap accommodation for big group

Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Our group was 6 friends - 1 of them was driving from elsewhere in Europe so the car park space was a blessing. Due to the size of our group we had considered staying in a hostel but they were no cheaper than having a few hotel rooms. The cost of the apartment divided amongst us along with the car park space worked out to be the cheapest option for us. We were delighted to find out that it was a lovely apartment and full of fun too! The convenience of cooking our own food was also bonus (and it helped our budget).
I slept in the red circular bed and after a day of walking around Paris, it seemed like the most comfortable bed ive ever slept in!
The toilet was fun and the shower was good and powerful. The only thing missing in the bathroom would be a lock on the door. This wasnt a big issue, but it did mean we had to announce when it was in use.
The metal stairs down to the lower level had rubber moulds on the steps. I presume it prevents slipping but they really hurt on bare feet. Again, not a problem as such- it just meant we had to put on our shoes when getting out of bed etc and going to the bathroom.
I really am splitting hairs here- the apartment was awesome and pretty much everything you would use living in an apartment is provided (eg towels, hairdryer, dishwasher/tablets, toiletries, guide books).
The closest metro station is Porte de Clingnancourt (5mins walk) but we felt there were some dodgy characters hanging about there- inside and out. The area seemed run down at that station. The other station we used was Jules Joffrin and it in comparison had a lovely vibe and was surrounded by nice cafes, bars and yummy bakeries (boulangeries). It was about 15 mins walk to the apartment. We used day tickets and it worked out the cheapest way for us to get around as we were only visiting for a few days. Beware- we encountered some feral children at a few metro stations and on one occasion they tried to snatch the hair clip off our friends head!! They were also trying to get in to our bags etc whilst distracting us by asking the time. This can happen anywhere of course but it made us more vigilant of our belongings.
Wifi at the apartment was a great way to let the rest of the world see our holiday snaps and book tickets for excursions.
It would be useful to have a 2nd key. Our large group often split up during the day and this restricted us with times to be back to let people in.
There was a sour note at the end of our stay when Bertrand (owner/manager) came to our apartment at 1015 when we had arranged a 1030 departure/key handover. Minutes later new guests were at the door wanting to get in. We were just about to load our car and we ended up having our luggage out on the street so he could check the apartment for damage etc. I understand it is a business and perhaps the new guests were early but it wasnt a nice way to end our otherwise excellent stay in a great apartment.
I believe there are other novelty apartment owned by the same people and we will definitely consider staying in them if we return to Paris.

      Amazing family apartment

Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in April 2013

What a unique apartment in the heart of Montmarte! We loved every second in the place- in fact my kids kept begging to come home from sight seeing each day to play/hang out. The beds were the most comfortable of anywhere I traveled (even better then my home bed). Location in the middle of the action (making us feel less like tourists but natives). Great bakeries, grocery shopping, restaurants at every corner. Metro's pretty close by- most attractions took about 30+ to get to. Only one small complaint- bath towels so small (more like hand towels by american Standard). Chez Bertrand was so helpful all along the process and made our stay truly unforgetable.

      A refaire.

Totally awesome, but with a few small concerns

Left on 01/24/2013 for a stay in April 2012

We loved the Paris Champion. We loved the convenience (and cost-effectiveness) of being able to cook for ourselves in the apartment--so much cheaper than eating out in Paris! Plus, shopping in the local patisseries and grocery stores gives you a feel for the true France--not the touristy side. We did eat out one night using Monsieur Bernard's excellent suggestions. The design of the apartment is stellar--plexiglass floor along the front wall in the dining area and in one of the bedrooms so you can see into the downstairs rooms. We (and our children) loved the foosball, the fun bedrooms and the crazy bathroom which features a toilet inside a phone booth and a large and luxurious shower! Delightful! Monsieur Bernard is a clever and creative designer. And he was ridiculously helpful and kind to us during the week we stayed. If there was the slightest problem, he would take care of it! I would strongly recommend this place to anyone needing a place to stay in Montmartre.

A few small concerns...Because it is on the ground floor, you cannot open any windows at all, so you have to rely on a ventilation system which pulls air in from outside. Also, if you are a large person, the toilet is located inside a phone booth in the downstairs bathroom so it may be a tight squeeze. I'm not too large, but my knees did bump up against the wall whilst, um, seated.

Monsieur Bernard has a number of other apartments and rentals in Paris. I would always recommend renting an apartment rather than staying in a hotel. And Monsieur Bernard's lodgings are a fun way to go!

Delivered on all promises and exceeded when we needed it most

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Paris Champion was a delightful place to stay - very clean and functional, everything as promised on the website. Bertrand was also a wonderful host who is very organised to make everything operate smoothly. Additionally, when an unexpected (but apparently not unusual) transport strike impacted the logistics of our departure, Bertrand went well and truly above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we safely made our flight.

      All you need!

Left on 01/01/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We stayed in Paris Champion for several days right after Christmas. The apartment is filled with vibrant color and fun decorating touches. There were 6 of us eventually, and we were quite comfortable. The apartment was perfectly clean when we arrived and ready for us. It has been renovated recently, so the kitchen and bath are filled with modern conveniences. Everything we needed was there--beds to accommodate us all, entertainment for the kids, and perfect guidance from Bertrand about how to get places and where to go. Although we did not cook, the kitchen was perfectly appointed to do so. The location may seem far from the center of Paris, but it really is not. It is very easy to get around--being near a station that is the end of the line means you can hop on a train and get a seat! The walk to Montmartre is easy so it makes it a great starting or ending point for a day of sightseeing. All arrangements with Bertrand were efficient and extremely professional.

unique apartment in a convienient location

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Excellent, organized property manager made the rental seemless. The location was in northern Paris, 5 minute walk to the Metro a short walk to the gorgeous Montemart area as well as Pigalle. Many cute patisseries and local shops within close walking distance.

The apartment itself was interesting. The kids love the car beds and game room. I would say that the only downside was that it is on the ground floor so you can hear people walking by and talking on the street level. Otherwise it was reasonable quiet for a big city.

From entry into the apartment to parking the car, Bertrand provided flawless instructions. The children loved everything from the moment they entered the flat and it made their stay in Paris. The location is great, easy to drive to and close to the metro and bus services. My daughter loved sleeping in the car and my sons ( and husband) made full use of the 'sport' facilities. A fantastic apartment which I can't recommend highly enough!

Wonderfully different which the kids loved. Everyone happy with the area and it not being too far to catch the train to Disneyland or buses to central Paris.

The owner greeted us on our first day. He was a pleasant person to talk to and made sure all of our needs were met. Everything is explained in detail. There are directions for all of the appliances and he provides a list of places in the area like restaurans and food markets to visit (with a map). The owner is very thorough. The place was clean and organized. Our youngest son (age 5) loved the Citroen bed! The area was good for walking, anything we wanted to do was always close by. My families favorite place was the flea market. We found all kinds of things to bring back home with us. It's definitely a place we would like to come back and visit!

A wonderfully quirky and memorable apartment in a great location

Left on 06/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Paris Champion is a quirky apartment and a lot of thought has gone into its design. All 5 of us who stayed at this apartment thoroughly enjoyed it, both for the location of the apartment and its unusual design. We had a lot of fun in the car-bed including a comfortable night's sleep! The apartment was clean, well maintained and conveniently located with the metro station a mere 5 minutes away and a fair few supermarkets and bakeries nearby. The host,Bertrand, is friendly and helpful and readily available to help with any problems with the stay. I am definitely glad that I chose to stay here because it meant that even the time spent within the apartment was memorable.

Left on 06/06/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Staying at Paris Champion with children is like celebrating Christmas morning everyday as they delight in new things to look at, play with and enjoy. For adults, everything is present for a comfortable stay ...and the children are entertained! The amount of thought that went into this flat is easy to appreciate. Paris Champion does not provide a "traditional” holiday stay, but that is half the fun!
As novices to Paris, we were most grateful for the superb administrative/helps/support that Monsieur Bertrand provides for his guests. He has a fully equipped website detailing a variety of possible Paris itineraries (including ideas for Paris with Children), has provided bus numbers, metro helps and websites, maps, and tricks for maneuvering in Paris. He provides a compilation of his favorite places to eat/visit near the flat as well as facilities guests might need (post office, pharmacy) and how to get to them. Our vehicle had a parking area (which was a pre-requisite for our stay), and we were thankful to have all of this support in English! Mr. Bertrand has made holiday insurance from his site a breeze, and the apartment is immaculate. From our initial inquiries to our final departure, Mr. Bertrand was responsive, personable and professional. Mr. Bertrand is a rare mix of divinely creative and keenly business-minded. He has designed a flat you can smile at being in without oversight of the many particulars of navigating a big city.

This is absolutely a preferable "basecamp" for a short visit in Paris.
Location is perfect, Metro ( 2 to choice ) close to the apartment and a lot of nice shops for buying real tasty food. Good local restaurants as well. We really liked the neighbourhood and for us it seems to be safe daytime and late evenings as well.
From the beginning a very helpful host, answered all questions we had in forehand within a few hours. Check in / out worked without any problems or delays.
Specially for people who plans to visit Paris for their first time it s perfect, you will be taken very good care of !

Funny apartment ! One thing Bertrand :we could like a bit more comfortable chairs after a long day walking in town ! There is the only point where you loose a star! But we loved the interior and the functional kitchen.

Left on 02/06/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Fantastic for kids and adults who want something fun and unusual

Left on 12/31/2011 for a stay in December 2011

My kids (boy, age 6 & girl, age 3) couldn't stop thanking us for finding this place. In fact, once we arrived, they didn't want to leave! The apartment had everything we needed and then some. Not only were the beds unique (the double bed inside the truck with working headlights & taillights and the kind-sized bed in the shape of a circle), they were also extremely comfortable. We especially enjoyed the foosball table and basketball hoop downstairs, among the other games available for play. The property owner makes a special effort to make the stay a comfortable one and provides a considerable amount of information for the convience of the guests. The only things that would require special considerations for those with small children are the corners of the glass table and the staircase. The location is equidistant between two metro stops which makes transportation very easy, however, it is not in a great neighborhood. Despite this, we felt very safe with all the security measures in place. In addition, the parking is free, but requires about a 15-minute walk from the apartment. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

      Farbenfroh in Paris

Left on 12/09/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Quirky and Children will love it

Left on 11/30/2011 for a stay in November 2011

The owner, Bertrand, was very helpful as well as prompt in answering my numerous questions prior to our arrival and speaks excellent English and German in addition to French. The apartment was fully equipped.

A code is provided and needed to enter the front door as well as a key to the apartment. Upon entering, there is a car for the kids to sleep in which they loved. Above it is a huge tv screen with over 200 channels. To the right is the kitchen with a small dining area and directly across from the car is another bedroom with a round bed.

I need to point out that the steps have gaps in them so for very small children, they will require assistance. There is a door that closes at the top.

Downstairs are additional beds and I slept there with 2 of my kids so they would have easy access to the bathroom since this was an unfamiliar environment.

There are games downstairs which include fussball, hula hoops, bowling and a basketball net. This keeps the kids occupied at night and during those times when mom and dad need some down time.

Wireless internet is included in the price. Metro, shopping center, bakeries are all close by.

We enjoyed our visit to Paris, made all the better by staying in this quirky apartment which shows a lot of thought by Bertrand.

We look forward to our next visit.
