Description

We adhere to ‘Visit Scotland’ hygiene standards, and additionally aim to leave several days ‘buffer’ between guests where possible. The property is self contained with no shared facilities.

The village Post Office for almost 100 years, the property has been re-modelled as a studio apartment for couples.

Conveniently situated on the shore road, with views from the large front window to Loch Long, and the Clyde Estuary, which is often busy with maritime traffic including submarines, merchant ships and cruise liners.

The space has been designed to provide comfortable accommodation for a relaxing holiday.

To the front is the bright and airy living / sleeping area.Furniture includes 2 reclining swivel easy chairs, a wooden dining table,a wardrobe ,a double bed with comfortable SIlent Night mattress and quality Sanderson bedding.

Additionally there is a wall mounted Dimplex Optiflame fire, wall mounted 32" flat screen Smart TV, free Netflix, free unlimited WIFI.

To the rear of the property is the kitchen, and shower room with double shower, toilet, basin, heated towel rail and recess for storage.

The kitchen has a sink, worktop space and ample cupboards. Electrical goods include ceramic hob with extractor, and single fan oven below, toaster, kettle, microwave oven with grill, and dishwasher. The fridge / freezer is under the counter, with a smaller fridge section to give more freezer space than the usual small 'Icebox'.

Heating in the studio is via electric panel heaters, a heated towel rail, and the Optiflame fire.

There is a door to the front, with storm porch for storage of coats and footwear. The door from the kitchen opens into the internal passageway, suitable for safe storage of bikes or fishing rods for example. A door to the back yard gives access to the outbuildings which house the washing machine and tumble drier.

Within the village is the Victorian Pier, free to access and great for fishing, and a wee Church bric a brac shop, as well as ‘The Blairmore’ a lovely tearoom great for drinks, snacks and light meals. On the edge of the village is Quadmania, who offer a variety of outdoor activities including Quad biking and archery. Lots of walks into the hills or along the shore start right outside the front door.A great golf course is close by in the neighbouring village of Strone and the seaside town of Dunoon is a few miles away.

Getting around

As an area of relatively small settlements surrounded by countryside, the easiest way to explore is by car, motorcycle or bicycle. The are also many walks and trails, and regular bus services serve villages and towns in the area.Taxi services are mainly used for relatively short journeys around the main settlement of Dunoon. Many of our guests use a combination of methods to get around... a bus to a beauty spot and then a pleasant walk home. How about bringing your bike, driving a little further afield and then explore a new area by cycle before driving back to Blairmore.

Interaction with guest

I will usually only see you (at a social distance) when I welcome you to Blairmore and tell you about the facilities and answer any questions you may have. I will then leave you to settle in, as we realize that our guests have been traveling and want to start their holiday. I then usually send an email to guests later in the week to check all is okay, although I can be contacted any time if you need me during your stay. I also have a good friend in the village who is a point of contact if required, and I ask you drop the keys through her letter box when your holiday is over.

“Fantastic Holiday Studio on Loch Long”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2023

I was last here back in 2014 and had a great time, so decided to come back. The studio and location were just as I remembered it & a very warm welcome from Stephen the owner. 10/10 for the studio itself, it has everything you need & very clean, tidy and functional for either a solo traveller or a couple. Fantastic location to explore the Argyll region. Highlights from this holiday were return trips to the Botanic Gardens @ Benmore, Crarae Gardens @ Inveraray, (saw red squirrel for 1st time in 40 years) & the lovely Mackintosh designed Hill House @ Helensburgh. I had come to have a nice time & recharge my batteries. Mission fully accomplished. Choice of 2 good supermarkets in Dunoon 10 miles away, Co-op & Morrisons. Milk, nic-nacks & cheap petrol at Cot House 4 miles away. Friendly local pub Strone Inn, 2 miles away.

Response from the owner Hi Emma it was lovely meeting you both. I know Blairmore holds fond memories for you, and I would be pleased to welcome you back. Thankyou for the great review, as many of my guests are returnees and so do not leave new reviews, I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback for those thinking of coming here for the first time. I may be biased, but for a wee village Blairmore offers a lot & I am pleased to be able to welcome visitors to The Old Post Office, located at its heart.

Response from the owner Thankyou for your kind words. I am pleased to have welcomed you to my wee let, located in a place that I think is special. You have distilled in your review what is so special about Blairmore, it has character. All at once it is quiet, peaceful, but with enough going on to be interesting. The Loch & River Clyde beyond present an ever changing view. There are few places where there may be a paddle steamer or a seal visiting the pier, or submarine or aircraft carrier sailing by to a naval dockyard. Outside the front door are miles of level walking around the Loch side, or head off into the hills straight from the village. A farm at the edge of the village offers outdoor activities such as quad biking .A pub and Golf course are in within walking distance at neighbouring Strone village. I hope you do return, more and more of my guests are re-visiting, and are pleased to find Blairmore has not lost its charm.

“Charming quiet retreat”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2020

Great place to stay for exploring the Southern Hebrides and Trossachs. Steve was very friendly and hospitable, accommodating us on very short notice when we had to change our previous holiday let, and was able to let us in early which was greatly appreciated. From the outside the let looks like a shop front with a large front window, as in fact it was a post office. The inside has been nicely arranged and the kitchen is very well equipped. Plus there is a great view from the large front window of the firth of Clyde. As it was originally a post office the property has the added security of outside bolting doors. Steve kept in contact with us throughout our stay so we felt looked after. We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Blairmore Post Office and would recommend it.

“Best holiday in a LONG time!”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2020

This wee flat is perfect for a couple having a break. It is clean and easily accessible, has everything you need, with the most beautiful views across Loch Long. It is the ideal base for walking through the breathtaking Cowal countryside or visiting a little further afield: we covered Inveraray Castle, Loch Fyne Oysters, Benmore Gardens, Ardentinny, Toward Lighthouse (along with the town of Dunoon) and a scramble up the hillside of Kilmun church on our last day - which incidentally, was the only wet day we had in the whole week We LOVED every minute. Check-in was easy, though it was difficult to establish an acurate ETA. Steven was patient and welcoming (thank you for the shortbread!) and made sure we had everything we needed before leaving us to unpack. A lovely neighbour was there when we needed her too, and made our holiday that wee bit more memorable. To be quite honest, I can't believe we were lucky enough to find this unbooked! And we'd love to return, if you'll have us!
