“Fantastic location for walking if you are fit and able” Relatively small cottage. Some good features some average. Great view of Dale from rear Garden / patio. Helpful neighbours. Very hilly - not suitable for older visitor or with young children in my view. No car access. Dog friendly location. Excellent pub up the hill

“Wow what a find!” Our party consisted of mother, 92 and the kids, 68 and 58 and a very large dog who made himself at home immediately. The bungalow was very spacious. Fitted out to a high standard and spotlessly clean. The enclosed garden was ideal for our dog or for children to play safely in. It is located only a very short walk to the park, town and shopping. Matlock is situated in an excellent position for exploring Derbyshire. Bakewell and Chatsworth are a must. The access to the lane the bungalow is obscure and tight. Care needs taking turning in and out onto the busy main road. Once at property parking and turning for cars good and despite proximity to main road it is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. The garden was very spacious but could be awkward for anyone with disabilities. There are a few little steps to different levels and pathways narrow though Mum managed well taking care. Wheelchair access would be difficult into the property. Had a lovely stay, wish it had been for longer. Will definitely go again and have already recommended the bungalow to my friends.

“Well equipped and well located flat” We stayed at the flat in May 2014. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It was only a short walk into the centre of Matlock through a very pleasant park. The provision of milk and biscuits on our arrival was a welcome touch. The flat is part of an old building converted into flats and is accessed via a set of external stairs. The flats have a dedicated car park. Although there is no car park for the sole use of this flat we had no trouble getting parked. This is a good base to explore the southern Peak District. There are good bus connections which we used to visit Bakewell and Buxton (the advantages of an OAP bus pass). The description does say that it sleeps 4 but the second bedroom is small and may be quite cramped for more than one. This didn't affect us as we did not use the second bedroom. Would recommend.

“charming cottage linked to farmhouse in restful, rural location.” We enjoyed the location, convenient for exploring the region - surrounded by fields but, being joined to the owner's farmhouse, it did not feel isolated. The cottage faced a concrete yard, field and barns (rustic - not chocolate box so could do with 'softening' a bit for holiday purposes - grassy garden behind (didn't use this so don't know if it would have suited families). The cottage was charming and larger than expected. We took advantage of a slight discount but on arrival realised it was probably given as the adjacent barn was being converted into a cottage - it would not have deterred us but would have appreciated knowing that in advance. As we were using the cottage as a base for exploring the region it didn't inconvenience us but may have done if we were planning just a quiet retreat. We would be happy to go back again.

“Cosy cottage in a tranquil location” We had a very warm reception from Jill, the owner, on the day we arrived. She also gave us a welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits. The kitchen was well-equiped and clean. The standard of cleanliness in the whole house was very good. The decor of the house was very pleasing and the beds were comfortable. The house is set in a peaceful location but is not too remote. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and an enjoyable holiday in this part of the country.

BROOKLEY BARN, pet friendly, luxury holiday cottage, with a garden in Windley
Windley house

“Lovely stay” Brookley Barn is a pretty cottage to enjoy your holiday. The atmosphere at the farm is very casual but not intrusive. There is always someone who wants a friendly chat or you wants to show you around the farm. Children will have a great time here. Keep in mind that Brookley Barn is on a working farm. There are cows and chickens wandering around, the pig's are nearby, there are dogs and cats who love attention. But it is a tidy farm and the animals also know their place. They will not be of any inconvenience, we have just utterly enjoyed it. The cottage itself is complete and very neat. Nearby there is plenty to do and see. Definitely recommended!
