Introducing Costa Ballena
Treated to around 300 days of sunshine annually, this relatively quiet part of the coast is a haven for vacationmakers looking for a serene and sun-drenched getaway. Many of its beaches hold Blue Flag status for cleanliness and facilities, including La Ballena and La Laguna. All provide an idyllic setting to relax listening to the crashing waves of the Atlantic.
At low tide, you’ll see the traditional fishing grounds or ‘corrales’, along the shore. The best spot is at Rota, on the northern tip of the Bay of Cadiz. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that delicious seafood is available in mouthwatering quantities. Tip: it’s best enjoyed on the terrace of one of Costa Ballena’s restaurants.

What’s nearby
To the south is the ancient port city of Cadiz, with its beautiful bay and spectacular skyline of watchtowers. There’s so much history to discover in this interesting town, from ancient 3,000-year-old ruins to medieval buildings, the most breathtaking being the cathedral with its trio of domes against the beautiful blue sky.
To the north, the lighthouse at Chipiona stands on a windswept headland. It looks especially beautiful at night, when an evening walk around Chipiona reveals the laid-back lives of the locals. If architecture and culture are on your agenda, the stunning Our Lady of Regla sanctuary is not to be missed, with its rare Black Madonna statue and impressive stone pinnacles.
