Kendal house

“The most amazing experience” We had the most amazing time at Grayrigg. As soon as we got there after a long tiring journey from London, we were welcomed with a roaring log fire, home made mince pies and flapjacks. The owners couldn't be more welcoming and the cottage is so beautiful (the pictures don't do this wonderful place justice) and the setting picturesque... I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and hopefully will return ourselves.

“Beautiful cottage with excellent facilities” We stayed in February at Swallow's Nest and could not have been happier with the accommodation. Everything was very stylish, everything had been thought of and we were warm and cosy despite the February chill. The log fire is lovely to snuggle around. The situation is excellent for the northern Lakes with great access to the M6 and a66. Could not have been happier with things.

Little Langdale house

“amazing views wherever you look "home from home"” although we know the lakes well fell foot cottage was a wonderful homely cottage full of history, it is right beside the start of the wrynose/hard knot pass so single line traffic outside the windows but not a problem it all added to the atmosphere especially with THE LANGDALE PIKES in full view, lots of walks right from the door, it is very rural and picturesque away from everything. We would certainly stay there again, the owners live next door & are both very friendly & helpful the cottage has everything you need

“Cottage holiday in ravenglass” The position of the cottage for exploring the South West area of the lake district is perfect. The accommodation on a working farm had everything you could wish for and was clean and spacious, with a lovely view towards the mountains. The only thing lacking was an outside area to sit and enjoy a barbecue with the lovely view. The owners were friendly and helpful.

“A superb location for country lovers” A spacious, well appointed and well located cottage set in the Lune valley. Walk just a few yards down the road and you can see the Howgill Fells and the river Lune. Although located with a few other cottages it feels private, and the owners were very helpful and welcoming. We had a memorable holiday and would certainly consider staying again. Kirkby Lonsdale (a few miles away) has a good local supermarket and plenty of pubs/restaurants.

ELM COURT, second floor apartment, views of river, in Keswick, ref:972290

Keswick house

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Lovely apartment” We had a lovely stay at Elm Court. Great location near Keswick centre but nice quiet and private. Only one gripe, the painter that was there to paint the exterior windows entered our apartment when we were not there and without our permission. When I reported this to the local office I was told they didn't know anything about it and that no-one had a key to enter it anyway. My husband spoke to the painter and he confirmed that the work was agreed with the local office and that he had a key to every apartment!! Better communication to your visitors would be my recommendation.

“What a great weekend” We went for a 40th birthday and took 16 friends along with us. The house was just great in every way. We enjoyed the space, the kitchen and its cupboards full of stuff, the jacuzzi and the massive lounge with roaring fire. I would recommend this for a great weekend getaway with friends or family. It's in a fabulous location right by the sea and very private. My only bug was it was cold but we did go in November! Would definitely go again.

“Spacious, clean and well positioned holiday home” Hunter's Chase is a large, modern well equipped house, ideally positioned for visiting the Northern Lake District. We visited with a large, mixed age group of 9 from an 8 year old to Grandad in his 80s. All of the bedrooms were well appointed with plenty of storage space. A total of 4 bathrooms plus a downstairs cloakroom meant there were no arguments or queues for the toilet! The two main bedrooms were equipped with large flat screen tvs as well as the lounge. We also made good use of the wi-fi in the house. The kitchen was newly fitted and very well equipped with every type of crockery, cutlery and cooking implement you might require as well as a dishwasher and a large fridge freezer. It's located in a lovely village (although we never tried the pub) with the actual position being very quiet with views over fields and a large garden good for playing ball games. Pooley Bridge nearby has several pubs and a lovely beach by the river and Penrith, also not far away, is a traditional market town with facilities including a swimming pool, cinema and the normal array of supermarkets.

“No hesitations about recommending archers..” ... except it might get too busy to re-book it again! Having stayed in a different cottage for a number of happy visits to Keswick, my first stay in archers was a reluctant change - but i was more than satisfied, and look forward to returning if i ever have the opportunity to work in the Lakes again. Comfortable, cosy, well-equipped. Great location for being central to shops, but easy access for walks, cycling etc...

“Great location in the centre of Grasmere village” Spacious and well fitted our, quality accommodation, ideal lake district cottage. We booked it for two adults, two teenagers and their Grandmother and it was perfect. Great to be restful after a good long walk, the walk to the tarn is a good start for those our of practice fell walkers too! The local co-op provides a good range of essentials and enough for meals when you,re not eating out. There are a number of good places to eat our, the small and homely bistro being just next door. We managed to see Wordsworth,s house, took a few long (and dry) walks , went to ambleside and Kendal and took a boat ride on Windermere. Cottages and log cabins in the Lake District

If you're looking to experience the most magnificent natural scenery England has to offer, you can't go wrong with the Lake District. Book a rural retreat, like a charming cottage or log cabin, to really make the most of your time in this spectacular landscape.

Breathtaking natural beauty

The Lake District's lush fells and valleys are scattered with small villages; charming clusters of cottages in a landscape that hasn't changed in centuries. Why not choose a cozy cottage in one of these quiet rural communities as your base? Or a secluded log cabin to put you right in the heart of the area's natural beauty?

Explore the 16 lakes, meres and tarns scattered across the county and you'll see cottages nestled on the shore with unparalleled views over the water. But if you prefer the atmosphere and amenities of a market town, you're still spoiled for choice with picturesque options like Keswick, Ambleside and Penrith.

Things to do in the Lake District

If you're seeking the classic Lake District experience, head to Lake Windermere. Here, you can take a boat trip on the water while marveling at the magnificent peaks surrounding you. There are plenty of vacation homes dotted along the shore in pretty spots such as Bowness-on-Windermere.

Nearby Ullswater doesn't disappoint, either, with plenty of pebbled bays along the lakeside to stop for a picnic and skim some stones across the water. While you're there, don't miss the spectacular waterfalls of Aira Force; with ample parking and a variety of walks, it's the perfect place for a family trip.

Speaking of family trips, one of the most popular attractions is The World of Beatrix Potter. This center celebrates Peter Rabbit author Beatrix Potter and all the work she did to preserve the land and livelihood of the Lake District.

Inspiration

With its inspiring scenery, wealth of activities and relaxed pace of life, the Lake District is a fabulous staycation destination for families. Renting a cottage or log cabin gives you all the flexibility and space of your own home and sets you up perfectly to enjoy England's most picturesque landscape.

Why Cumbria?

Are you up for an outdoor adventure? Booking your vacation rental in Cumbria gives you the chance to make the most out of the rolling hills, stunning scenery and tranquil lakes. Pick yours today before they all go!

About Cumbria

On the northernmost point of England, Cumbria is one of the largest counties in the country. However, you won't find many built up areas here. Most of the landscape has been left untouched by developers and builders, and lets nature flourish within its borders.

With such an abundance of nature and peacefulness, it's no surprise that lots of artists and authors have come here to try their craft. William Wordsworth, John Ruskin, Beatrix Potter and Ken Russell were all inspired by this magnificent area.

What to do

For something a little different, try the Predator Experience in Cartmel. Choose the creature or creatures you want to interact with and spend a day learning about them. There are bird of prey falconry days, reptile and mammal experiences and you can even go walking with wolves!

There are several waterfalls throughout this part of the Lake District, so why not climb up and see one? Aira Force in Penrith is spectacular.

Twazabarn - near the Lake District and Dales National Parks - Sleeps up to 6
Our first experience of booking through FlipKey was absolutely fantastic - Twazabarn was spectacular.

From the moment of our arrival Carole was the perfect hostess. She was warm and friendly, she explained the workings of her cottage in detail and was easily accessible for the one problem we had. The cottage had everything we could wish for and was perfect for our party of 4 seniors. It was in immaculate order and very tastefully furnished. It was a very good base for exploring the area, close to the township but totally quiet at night. The township had much to explore and the locals were all friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this cottage - it was warm and cosy and the wood heater made for great ambience. No complaints at all..see more

Delightful Cottage in Great Location

My wife and I stayed in this cottage for several nights in October. We loved it. It is nicely decorated, was fresh and clean, the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and the location is very convenient to everything in the Lake District. It is in a very quiet, peaceful location. The big, deep jacuzzi was great. We would definitely recommend it for a romantic getaway.see more
Bridge Cottage - alongside River Greta in Keswick
Beautiful cottage in a perfect setting!

My boyfriend and I spent a few days in Bridge cottage just after New Year. We loved our stay there, it is easy walking distance into town whilst being out of the way down a quiet dead end road. The river is right next to the property and as the weather was sadly against us during our stay, we spent a lot of our time just enjoying relaxing in the cottage. The parking allocation is great, right next to the property. There are also many footpaths right on the doorstep which we would love to return to and explore. WE are hoping to visit again (in the summer next time) and explore the area further.see more

Great New Year stay in this Sumptuous Norwegian Lodge

Stayed for 3 nights over the new year in this very high quality lodge, the best we have stayed in. The lodge itself has had a great deal of thought put into it including the underfloor heating keeping the place permanently warm, lack of chords, very comfy beds and top quality bedding (often poor in rentals), great TV with Sonos soundbar everything is catered for at a high standard. The Jacuzzi was great and warm enough to use in winter, with great views over the countryside. The location is great being quiet and yet good access to Carlisle, we managed a trip to the castle which is very impressive. Hadrian's wall is also accessible as is the lakes and the Scottish borders. The owners were very friendly and accessible, they were happy to show us the various friendly animals around the place which are a great addition (the guard geese do get used to you). They also provided some lovely freebies upon arrival. Many thanks for the great stay hope to return soon !see more
