El Palmar is not your typical Andalucian resort beach. It’s wilder and quieter than the likes of the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz. Situated five kilometers north of Vejer, in Cadiz, El Palmar’s white sand stretches for miles, so you’re bound to find a peaceful place to relax. On the beach
El Palmar’s beach is long, straight and beautiful. Wooden walkways carry you from the town, past the bars where local surfers gather in the evenings, through palms and grasses and onto the vast expanse of sand. There’s not much shelter from the wind, but that’s why the locals love it.
If you prefer things as calm as possible, though, the ideal time to visit is between June and August. The sea is mostly flat and gentle, so you can learn to paddleboard, windsurf or just enjoy the shallows. The north end of El Palmar beach is typically the quietest, but you’ll find the best surf schools near town.
Surf enthusiasts, on the other hand, will want to visit November through February, where the waves swell regularly to two meters high. Not for the faint hearted!
