“Perfect chilled out retreat” We spent a week at Casa azulita - and it was just what the doctor ordered. The place itself couldn't have been more relaxed - a stylish cabin only s short distance from the beach, with all that you could need for a week's R&R; in this lesser known part of Spain. Dom, Lisa and Roosta (the world's friendliest dog) were the perfect hosts - they gave us loads of useful info about the place itself; where to eat, what to see, and most importantly where to surf. Their helpful yet chilled style complimented the place itself. We only chanced on finding this place, but what a superb discovery. We are definitely going back. Thanks guys - perfect holiday

Why El Palmar?

El Palmar is not your typical Andalucian resort beach. It’s wilder and quieter than the likes of the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz. Situated five kilometers north of Vejer, in Cadiz, El Palmar’s white sand stretches for miles, so you’re bound to find a peaceful place to relax. That’s not why most people come, though: El Palmar is Spain’s premier surf beach. Among the restaurants and bars that line the seafront, you’ll also find surf shops inviting you to make your vacation that little bit more adventurous.

If you plan to surf, renting a house in El Palmar makes storing boards and equipment easier than in an apartment. On the beach

El Palmar’s beach is long, straight and beautiful. Wooden walkways carry you from the town, past the bars where local surfers gather in the evenings, through palms and grasses and onto the vast expanse of sand. There’s not much shelter from the wind, but that’s why the locals love it.

If you prefer things as calm as possible, though, the ideal time to visit is between June and August. The sea is mostly flat and gentle, so you can learn to paddleboard, windsurf or just enjoy the shallows. The north end of El Palmar beach is typically the quietest, but you’ll find the best surf schools near town.

Surf enthusiasts, on the other hand, will want to visit November through February, where the waves swell regularly to two meters high. Not for the faint hearted!
