“An Inspiring Four Days in a Beautiful Jungle Paradise” We just returned from two and half weeks in Honduras in august 2010. We spent four invigorating days in the Cangrejal River Lodge (Villas Pico Bonito). We had only planned on staying three days but couldn't pry ourselves away! Richard and his wife anna built the place and their love for it comes through in every detail. We opted to stay in the Ceiba Tree Lodge and would heartily recommend it. It is a masterpiece. It's like living in a comfortable tree house surrounded by the sights and sounds of the jungle but with all the comforts of home. We fell in love with the place immediately! The Ceiba Tree and the other lodges are scattered around a compound that is a botanical garden of tropical trees and flowers. There is also a crystal clear infinity pool set above the river and the rainforest beyond. We spent ample time in the pool as well as in the warm Rio Cangrejal flowing by below. After relaxing by the pool on our first day we hiked to the El Bejuco Waterfall and soaked in the spray of the sixty meter falls. The entrance to the trail is over a suspension bridge a short walk from the lodge. The next day we went rafting on the Rio Cangrejal, a trip that Richard helped us organize. That was a thrilling and beautiful ride that also included some cliff jumping. On our last full day we rode the local bus to a small town called Las Mangas and set off on another hike to the village of La Muralla and some fabulous swimming holes. Richard and anna are friendly and helpful hosts. Richard arranged transport for us from the Roatan ferry to his place and back to La Ceiba for our bus connection. We never missed not having our own transportation. Richard will offer advice or will help arrange adventures in the area, or you may just wish to stay close to the pool and soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful place.

“Loved It, Didn't Want to Leave It!” Laguna Vista is removed from the main street and an easy 15 minute walk or quick bike ride to town. We added a couple taxi rides as needed which were cheap and easy. Absolutely no problems getting around! Tony and Jo are wonderful hosts who go above and beyond and filled in so many gaps for us. They live upstairs and are easily accessible, helpful and all around terrific people! I can't say how much we appreciated them and knowing there was someone on the island we could trust should we hit a snafoo! Also loved the extra's such as having a local cell phone, bikes to ride, flowers in conch shells. The grounds of Laguna Vista are immaculate; the pool total relief, soothing fountain sounds great at night and an amazing palapa to dine under! Only drawback- it's hot to cook in the kitchen. The bedrooms have awesome aC and we slept like rocks. The town- delightful; many memories and meals we remember fondly- don't miss El Picante, La Picola. We also enjoyed an awesome BBQ of our own fresh caught wahoo at Laguna Vista. Such a great time, Thank You!

“A Beautiful Oasis” Milady was an extremely accommodating host. I traveled to Utila with 3 other college students who were studying in Honduras for the semester, and they found her place online. She was extremely helpful when making the arrangements prior to the visit, and her support continued throughout our visit. She brought us to the apartment as soon as we got off the ferry, which was very clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. We discussed a possible itinerary for the week using her suggestions and were able to ask her a lot of questions. Because we were on a budget, she recommended the cheapest (and best) places to scuba dive, rent snorkel gear, go out for dinner, kayak, hike, etc. We experienced so much of the island with guides that we wouldn't have known about unless we had stayed with her. She also brought us to the store multiple times to purchase water and groceries for the week. Her thoughtful and generous spirit truly made our vacation the best it could've possibly been, and we all agreed that it was a wonderful decision to stay with her. Her prices are extremely reasonable and you will receive far beyond what you pay for. My friends plan on recommending Milady's place to all future students who are studying in Honduras and to anyone else who is considering traveling to Utila! Staying with Milady may end up being one of the best decisions you make while planning your trip!

“A'Mazing L'Alize” From the minute we decided to book L'Alize until we boarded the plane to leave Roatan we were given top notch service. Our pre-trip planning was a breeze and we had tons of help from the owner and manager. Upon arrival we were met at the airport and taken to the local grocery store to stock up on supplies. From the store it was about a 20-minute ride to L'Alize. Thankfully the house came with a van because the walk out to the road is steep!. We were given a tour of the house by Tish (the manager) and introduced to Olga, Edie, and their family (our caretakers, cooks, and concierge). The house is as described, perhaps even better, and pictures can not show how truly amazing it is. From the second you walk through the door you are preoccupied with the incredible view out every window. We spent a great deal of time on the decks but there were nights we had to eat inside because the breeze could be a bit much. However, waking up in the morning in the master suite is unbelievable! The breeze rolls through the room, the sound of the ocean is in the distance (along with a rooster), and you can lay in bed and watch the sunrise as cruise ships pass by. The kitchen is very well stocked and it was easy to cook for our large group (12 total). There are stairs everywhere at L'Alize and you must conquer a fair amount of them to get to the beaches. Both beaches are decent and Edie attempts to keep them clean but a fair deal of trash can wash in each night. The surf was a bit much for snorkeling for most our group but it was possible. The main beach in front of the house is next to the caretaker's house but the second beach (a 10 minute walk) is quite secluded. You are between West Bay and West End and both are easy to reach (we spent the majority of our time between the two). South Shore Zipline is a very short ride from the house (You will pass it daily). We ended up spending $140 for gas but we were constantly on the move. You will not be sorry if you stay
