“Wonderful Retreat!” A great place to get away and relax! We loved every minute of our stay. It rained the entire weekend so we missed out on using the fire-pit and the hot-tub but we got to enjoy hearing the rain on the metal roof and the far off sound of the train. It was the perfect place for three close friends to unwind and catch up on each other's busy lives.

“Memorial Day Weekend” The place was great and had everything we needed. Gene was awesome, always replying quickly to questions, and even working with us on early check-in and late check-out. My only suggestion would be to check out the shower head upstairs - was a little all over the place :)

A Southern River Retreat-Enjoy the river from the front porch!
Luray house

“Small but comfortable vacation property almost at the river's edge.” For this mini vacation I was interested in 2 things - easy access to the Shenandoah River and dog friendly. This property met both requirements. The house is small, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, a den/dining area and a well appointed and stocked kitchen. The house was just big enough for the 3 adults and dog not to be in each other's way. Luckily there is also a very nice covered (but not enclosed) porch which comfortably extends the living space. Also the yard area is huge both front and back, but not fenced, our well behaved dog was off leash at times but watched closely. The river is beautiful, healthy, the fishing great, both my husband and I caught and released smallmouth bass including several large fish. There was also a lot of bird activity including herons, eagles, osprey and hummingbirds. We saw a river otter running around the rocky shoreline one morning. There are two very important things to keep in mind when considering this property! One bedroom has bunk beds, a fact I did not notice before renting the property but realized after the fact. My husband and I managed that but it certainly was not comfortable. Again my fault for not reading more thoroughly as the description clearly states bunk beds. The other and equally important thing to be aware of is that there are no doors, just frames in the bedrooms and they are close, separated by the bathroom. So privacy is minimal. We had my elderly mother with us, we spend a lot of time together so the lack of doors wasn't a huge deal but I'm sure it would be in some cases. To sum up I would return to this property but with just my husband. It's ideally designed for a couple and 1 or 2 children.

“Above the rivers edge” Cabin was nice and clean. There was already firewood available on the property which was convenient. Verizon phone service didn't work too well but AT&T service worked fine. We weren't able to get the gas fireplace to work. The hot tub didn't get very hot. It was warm but I needed to be serviced or repaired. The river being right in the backyard was nice. Regardless we enjoyed our stay.

“The property fulfilled exactly as it was advertised providing exactly the amenities we required for our stay.” Forest Glenn provided us with the amenities we required so that we were not burdened having to pack a multitude of extra luggage and utensils. The dog also had a wonderful week whom Becky and David welcomed to their property. The setting is quiet and serene making it a spectacular setting for R&R. This provided us with a central location to visit the sites we had planned to see. (Shenandoah National Park 3x's, a bear in the wild, Smithsonian Air And Space museum at Dulles, Monticello, Virginia civil war museum, and the George Washington National Forest.( A lot of good hiking trails. At least 2 handicapped accessible.)

“Great time” We had a great time in this house. First of all, there was not a speck of dirt when we moved in. The house is perfectly situated. 10 mins from Luray, 20 from Shenandoah River Outfitters and 10 from the Thorton Gap. We did a canoeing trip, two greats hikes and a rafting trip all in 4 full days. We could've easily stayed for more. We're looking forward to staying again...

“Acorn Hill” House was very clean and well equipped. Owners were exceptional in assisting us with a very minor issue. Beds were comfortable. House was centrally located, short drive to area attractions. Wish there was a view of the river but the sunrises were beautiful!

“Great views in a very clean, comfortable cabin in the woods.” We truly enjoyed our too-brief stay in Grand View cabin. The views from the family room as well as from the deck are amazing. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was spotlessly clean and neat. We can't wait to come back again.

“great weekend trip” Beautiful house right on the river with easy access for canoeing and swimming. Plenty of room with a full kitchen, dining area, and screened porch. The house is about a two hour drive from the DC area, so people can join you for a day trip if they don't want to spend the night. Only downside is that there is only one bathroom.

“I can NOT rave enough about this place! I look forward to staying again!” We looooooved this property! My review wont do justice for this beautiful, spacious, RELAXING, private estate! The downstairs was the perfect venue for me to accommodate guests at my 25th wedding vow renewal! The ease of having the ceremony and reception all in one place was so stress free! All the wedding guests were in awe of the place! The bathrooms were beautiful and handicapped accessible for my elderly guests. The grandson and other children loved the playground & nursery. The teens loved the pool table. I had more than enough room for my overnight guests to spread out because you are definitely NOT crammed into this place! Lots, lots and lots of room! The huge house, decks and terrace made it easy for people to spread out and enjoy everything. The 2 kitchens was new, large and modern. The master bedroom was very romantic with the gas fireplace. The fireplace in the downstairs grand-room was the perfect backdrop for our ceremony. The upstairs fireplace in the living room was cozy. The multiple rocking chairs, bonfire area and huge hottub was the perfect cure for the hustle and bustle of a busy day. All the bedrooms were very roomy. The beds were so comfy and luxurious that one of my guests googled the brand name so they could buy one for their own home. lol At the end of our stay, we honestly hated to leave the tranquility and quiet of the place for the "real world". Ken, Paul, and their wives were so helpful and sweet. They all worked hard on making this property into a HOME that all future guests will enjoy!

“Wonderful Family Retreat!” My family just got back from a wonderful vacation with High Ridge Cabin as our home base in the Blue Ridge mountains. This cabin has the perfect combination of rustic cabin charm, and modern amenities. The cabin is situated up in the mountains and surrounded by trees, with beautiful views of the mountains. It is quiet and secluded, but only takes about 20 minutes to drive down to the town where there is a full grocery store. My family really enjoyed the campfire pit and the hot tub when the weather was good, and the satellite TV, DVD library, board games, and high speed internet access were much appreciated when we had rain. The cabin has everything you need to make your stay comfortable, and the staff is very responsive if there is anything that you need. The cabin is less than an hour away from Luray and the closest entrance to Skyline drive, plus the drive to those destinations is very scenic. We will definitely be back again in the future!

“Relaxing!” We had a wonderful time! The game room was awesome. The cabin was nice and clean. Everything we needed was provided. We live in Hampton Roads, which is very busy and noisy,so to be on top of a mountain, and the only sounds were that of nature was a welcome change. We were very close to Luray Caverns, and the local Food Lion. We spent Saturday hiking in the woods around the cabin. Just loved it! The locals were the epitome of southern hospitality. I highly recommend Old Wagon Lodge. :)

“perfect place to ring in the new year” My family and dog had a great stay - convenient to national park, caverns, and Walmart. Very clean and well maintained - just wish it had a dishwasher. Otherwise, we had a great time and would definitely consider going back. The big yard and river front were spectacular for a fire and our dog to run around.
