Elegant Jefferson-era Farmhouse - Charlottesville

Charlottesville house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Great weekend!” We celebrated a girl's weekend in late March at Rosneath. We were completely impressed with the house. Not only is it charming, it is also has beautiful updates (I wish I could always cook in a kitchen like that). It really had everything we needed from enough sheets to appliances to space. It was also very clean. We enjoyed Dr. Ho's Humble Pie (right down the street) and went to a number of wineries. Pippin Hill was our favorite and it is very close to the house (maybe a 5 minute drive if that). Even though it rained most of the weekend, we still loved sitting out on the deck and enjoying the scenery. I had a lot of questions while I was planning the trip and received very helpful and quick responses from the owners. We loved the trip and hope to come back again soon. I would highly recommend the house for couples, girl's weekends, or family gatherings.

The Warren | Country Home - 1 Mile from King Family Vineyards in Lovely Crozet

Charlottesville house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“Amazing views, country comfort, updated amenities” Stayed at The Warren with 5 other girls for a bachelorette weekend, and we can't wait for our next trip back! The house has a definitely country charm, but the plumbing, heat, appliances, and bathrooms have been updated (and upgraded). I'm really looking forward to going back and taking a bath in the claw foot tub in the master bathroom. From the front porch we watched the sunrise on the mountain, and we even spotted a huge buck in the front yard. We enjoyed petting the goats and swinging on the tree swing in the mornings while we drank our coffee. We were only 20 minutes away from Charlottesville and Carter Mountain Orchard. We also visited 4 wineries (one of which was only 2 minutes away from the cottage). I know for certain that I'm going to be paying The Warren another visit next fall!

“Idyllic, relaxing setting with attentive but unobtrusive hosts including Joe, the sweetest dog ever.” Location easy to find. Peaceful with beautiful pool and walking trails. Nice places to visit nearby though it was not easy to leave the cottage. Anne and Jim made sure we had everything we needed but gave us plenty of privacy. It was almost like we'd rented the entire property. Every comfort was there from our exact food preferences to comfortable accommodations and private patio. Will visit again as soon as we can.

The Recycled House - Walk Downtown

Charlottesville house

“Do not miss this opportunity!” What a fabulous house! The house is unique, the location is excellent, and Debra is a wonderful host. As I sat on the front porch in the morning and early evening, I began to think It was my home as I waved to neighbors walking by on the path. I look forward to another visit. Oh, and the delicious cookies Debra left in the cookie jar hit the mark for someone with a sweet tooth.

Civil War Cabin Built by Confederate Soldier in Blue Ridge Mountains

Charlottesville log cabin

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Serene cabin near running creek” Dear Stan, We had a wonderful stay last month in the logwood cabin, that dates back to the Civil War. It was a very unique cabin with a homely, quaint feel. There was a lovely little fireplace and the cabin felt very lived in. The bed was very soft and if you left the window open at night you could hear the running creek. The location is near a beautiful creek that runs through the woods close to the national park. We will definitely come back if we ever go down that way again. Thanks, Shannon and Jonathan

“The place to stay near Charlottesville” Lisa and Keith could not have been nicer or more helpful. Although we do know the area pretty well, their hints of eateries for that particular area were just right. The accommodations were perfect. We were able to control our environment to our liking. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and functional, with lovely wood floors and nice touches throughout. They seem to have considered every detail. Unfortunately, we had to leave a day sooner than we expected. We were so happily settled into the apartment we could have stayed much longer. We will be back!

“A real home!!!” The owner is quick to reply to inquiries, and he has lived in this house. So you have everything you need to cook with in a beautiful kitchen (glasses, dishes, Clean pots and pans, great stove, bowls, and gadgets.) Inside, the home is so clean and comfortable, and enjoy the huge recliner chairs in the living room. All the comforts of home with TV & Cable, DVD, A/C, and a great porch in front with a deck in back as well. We liked the extra 1/2 bath so we could both get ready at the same time. It's near wineries (Barboursville is our favorite) and towns. Louisa has two restaurants to eat at, or you are close to Rte. 64, if you want to go to Charlottesville and explore. The Downtown outdoor Mall is great with lots of places to eat and shop. You're also close to Monticello which is fabulous to visit! Thanks Paul, for a great place, and those beautiful horses that we enjoyed watching everyday! We want to return again! Sandra and Len

“Great at-home feel” This is a great place in the quiet of the country, birds (and squirrels) in the birdfeeders on the porch, hawks (and buzzards) overhead, and sometimes deer grazing in the back yard. A lovely retreat in the woods but close to Charlottesville as well as Staunton and just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive and the appalachian Trail. In the cottage, many amenities such as clean comfortable tasteful furnishings, a good working kitchen with staples, and wireless (satellite) internet make it a great place to hang around in. Stayed a week. Highly recommended.

About Charlottesville

Charlottesville, Virginia

Charlottesville, Virginia always ranks high when it comes to best places to live. The city is refined yet vibrant thanks to the campus of the University of Virginia. This, together with a historic past, makes for a great vacation destination. To find the right Charlottesville vacation book, browse and book on FlipKey.

About Charlottesville

Charlottesville is named after British King George III’s wife, Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, and is located in the center of the State of Virginia.

Sitting along the Rivanna River in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is 70 miles from the state capital Richmond and 115 miles from the nation’s capital Washington DC.

Home to both Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, the town owes much to the legacy of the former presidents.

Playing only a bit part in the Revolutionary War, Charlottesville was spared the destruction and burning that the State of Virginia suffered at the hands of the Union Army during the Civil War, except for a skirmish with General George Armstrong Custer in which the Yankee fled after thinking he was up against a superior force.

Today, Charlottesville is a trendy university town with a pedestrianized center full of hip restaurants and bars.

What to do in Charlottesville

The number one spot on any tourist’s itinerary has to be a visit to Thomas Jefferson’s home at Monticello. Built and then re-built over 40 years, Monticello and its gardens are a reflection on what life was like for a plantation owner during the Revolutionary period.

After seeing how Jefferson lived, the next logical step is to visit his greatest achievement, the University of Virginia. Founded in 1819, the nearly 1,700-acre campus is a colonial work of art surrounded by majestic lawns.

Being so close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, you cannot go home without taking Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park. The scenery is so spectacular that the speed limit along the 105-mile route is posted at 35mph to help avoid accidents.

Shenandoah is also the place to go for hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, bird watching, and astronomy.

Top Charlottesville travel tips

With four distinct seasons, the best time to see Charlottesville at its best is during the fall when the students are back on campus following summer vacation and the leaves are changing color along Skyline Drive.

With the town having no professional sports teams nearby, the U. Va Cavaliers have a huge following. Try to attend a football game and join in with the crowd as they link arms and sing “The Good Old Song” following a hometown touchdown.

During the summer, Charlottesville’s downtown brick lined shops come alive for “Fridays After Five” with live music and festivities throughout the night.

Whether you visit as a couple or as a family, Charlottesville is the American South at its best. Full of history and ideally suited for mountain excursions, make this your next vacation destination. You can find a wide range of Charlottesville vacation rental properties to suit all needs by visiting FlipKey.

Perfect family getaway

I believe this is the first time I have reviewed a place but I wanted to sing the praises of “The Warren”. We stayed for a fall getaway and could not have been more impressed. We stay in the Charlottesville area several times a year because we love it and this was by far our most enjoyable stay. Location: Our original intent was to stay in Charlottesville but the location of the Warren ended up being perfect. It is a short drive to Charlottesville but is also very close to downtown Crozet which has several good restaurants. In addition, it is within walking distance to the King Family Vineyards, close to Mint Springs Park, Starr Hill Brewery, and is also a short drive to Skyline Drive and many other interesting places. Despite its proximity to so many places, it is very quiet and peaceful. House Condition: We were torn throughout the weekend. We loved the house so much that we wanted to spend all of our time at it but also wanted to get out and enjoy the area. The house was perfect for our group (Three adults and two young children). It has a big yard which my three year old enjoyed running around in and has a great front porch for relaxing. The interior of the house is also really nice and quite spacious. House Cleanliness: Perfect. I wish we could keep our house this clean. Owner/Booking process: We really enjoyed meeting the owner. She provided excellent recommendations and was very accessible. The entire booking process was quite easy. We look back very fondly on our weekend at “The Warren” and look forward to staying here again in the not too distant future. Johnsee more

Perfect place to get away!

We arrived on a Friday and left on Sunday - I only wish we could have stayed longer! The accommodations were better than we even expected. The location is perfect because you are 10-15 minutes from downtown Charlottesville, still very convenient to area wineries and breweries, but still in a beautiful, remote area. We are already excited to plan another trip here! Next time, we plan to bring food to the apartment for lunch as well. They provide great breakfast supplies, and we wish we had spent more time at the apartment rather than out and about. We spoke with the hosts twice, they were very welcoming. They gave us great restaurant recommendations and their dogs are so friendly. This apartment is so cozy and comfortable - I couldn't recommend it more!see more
Elegant Jefferson-era Farmhouse - Charlottesville
Beautiful, historical, relaxing, very pleasant setting, couldn't have ask for anything better.

Very impressed by the home, the age and how well it has been cared for. So much history to it. The area is spectacular, the surrounding mountains very beautiful. We visited Monticello, Mickie's Tavern, The Gift Shop, we went to Horton's Vineyard and visited Ruckersville. We love this area and have been visiting it for years. This is the first time at North Garden, VA. We definitely will visit again. Thank you for your hospitality, and for fedexing my purse to me after I forgot it in the home. Dan and Misty are awesome caretakers. Sincerely, Michele, Marsha, Melinda, and Susan.see more
