“Best place we've ever stayed in Chincoteague!!!” Let me start by saying... We love this place!!! By far, the best house we've stayed at in Chincoteague. My family loved it. We have 3 kids (aged 2-9) and they all had a blast even though this is a bit smaller than our regular home. The first floor is pretty wide open with a great eat in kitchen and island that everyone seems to gather around. Also, the enclosed outside patio is screened in and makes for a great outside dining area/ adult late night hang out (protected by the many mosquitos!):):):) Behind the house is some type of protected land filled with emu's, baby ponies, peacocks, donkeys and goats. We were here 1 year and the fence broke and goats were all over the porch when we pulled up!!! The rock driveway is considered a road even though there are 2 houses at the end of it. It is extremely long for a driveway. All in all, my family has grown to know this as a 2nd home and we have been going for a week every august for 7 years. Can't wait til this august at the Cedars!!!

Serendipity

Chincoteague Island house

3 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Charming house with great views and a lot of character” This house is special. I have stayed in a lot of places on Chincoteague Island for work. When I stayed in this house I could really feel the soul of the people who owned it and who made it so hospitable for guests. All of the small touches were truly appreciated. I could not figure out how to get the lights on in the exterior of the house on the deck. I was really curious about when this house was built but I couldn't find any information online. Maybe an enterprising person could add it to the listing info. This was a perfect place to stay for a week and I would definitely recommend it.

Charlotte's Morning Sun

Chincoteague Island house

4 bedrooms / 4 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“Beautiful Waterfront Property” Charlotte's Morning Sun is absolutely beautiful. It was great for our group of 6, very spacious. We enjoyed the peaceful waterfront setting and all of the windows overlooking the bay. The house is comfortably furnished, and the kitchen is very nice. The house is supplied with bird identification books and a telescope and binoculars. The bird watching is fantastic. The living room has a large TV and a DVD player. The house also has wi-fi. We were able to crab at the waters' edge. It is a short drive to the beach, and the local restaurants and shops. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxing.

Misty's Thicket

Chincoteague Island house

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“We were delighted with our stay here.” My husband and I and our son, daughter-in-law, and their three small daughters spent a delightful week in Misty's Thicket. Clean, spacious, and well-appointed, the rental served us well. Lovely views from the screened-in porches for coffee in the morning and libations in the evening and the dock to the inlet behind the property added to its charm. The $75 cleaning fee was well-worth not having to spend our last morning attending to minute details. One drawback - parking for two vehicles was a bit tight.

“Beautiful home, views, location and space!” We really enjoyed this home! Great gathering area - open floor plan with kitchen living room and dining room areas together yet great privacy with bedrooms and upstairs loft/den upstairs and 2 great master suites downstairs. Plenty of closets, great deck, and dock. Plenty of room outside, outside shower and even shaded area under the home....could not ask for better views...several occurrences of the ponies on Asseteague right in view from the house. Highly recommend this home. Also, have rented from this mgmt co. Many times and always have received excellent customer service and any issues have always been promptly resolved.

About Chincoteague Island

Located on the eastern shore of Virginia, Chincoteague Island is a low-key summer destination, easily accessible from anywhere on the East Coast of the United States. Many families begin their Chincoteague vacation with an ocean tour around the island during which you can often see dolphins and other marine life. Alternately, you can take a guided nature walk with the Chincoteague Natural History Association.

The beautiful shoreline is the island's greatest attraction, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and building sandcastles in the surf. A family friendly destination, there are hundreds of ways to entertain the kids on Chincoteague Island. In addition to the beach, you can spend an afternoon at a miniature golf course or head to the bowling alley. Another popular activity is renting bicycles and touring the island's country roads. As you ride, keep an eye out for the famous wild ponies of Chincoteague. A unique Chincoteague attraction, the wild ponies roam freely along the island's sandy beaches.

With the bountiful ocean surrounding Chincoteague, fishing is a major activity in the region. Surf fishing is allowed on numerous beaches, though visitors may also plan to go deep-sea fishing with a charter. Waterfowl hunting is also permitted and popular throughout the island during hunting season. Likewise, when it comes to cuisine, Chincoteague is heavy on the seafood, with a particular emphasis on Maryland's famous blue crab.

Here are a few additional suggestions of things to do in Chincoteague:

  • Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge: Spanning the state line between Maryland and Virginia, this wonderful wilderness preserve is a great place to spot birds, elk, white-tailed deer, rabbits, and, of course, ponies.
  • Chincoteague Pony Centre: After watching wild ponies roam along Chincoteague's beaches, you can take the kids to pet domesticated ponies and to learn more about the pony origins at the small accompanying museum.
  • Assateague Island National Seashore: Just across the water from Chincoteague Island, there are over 35 miles of pristine coastline.
  • Tom's Cove Park: Spend the day at this beautiful cove, which offers three fishing piers, calm beaches, and a beautiful coastal habitat for pony viewing.
  • Beebe Ranch: Come to this lovely ranch to visit the descendants of Misty, a wild pony made famous in a children's book.
  • Oyster and Maritime Museum: Learn about the history of seafood and the island of Chincoteague at this museum.

Enjoy the East Coast in the summer with a waterfront vacation rental in Chincoteague, Virginia. For a real taste of the shore, seek out a cottage or rental home along the coastline and beaches on Chincoteague Island, or look for a romantic Victorian mansion in one of the small island communities.

Great vacation

The Hill house decor and set up on the main floor is fabulous. Love how big and open the kitchen and three eating areas are spread out from dining room to kitchen nook -accommodates everyone with lots of space! Upstairs those three bedrooms and master bath along with a hall bath. The only downside to this property is outside backyard space is limited to cars and bikes only. No privacy in the backyard.see more
Key West Cottages
Perfect for a romantic getaway!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and this was the perfect place! The cottage was cozy, clean, and very cutely decorated. The kitchen space was perfect for cooking, as it is stocked with all utensils and plateware. We especially loved how close it was to the downtown strip, and that we were right on the bay facing sunset (from the Lavender cottage). Finally, staff at ComfortSuites was very welcoming and even stocked us with Kcups for the cottage. We would definitely stay again!see more
