“Superb all year round holiday home” We have just enjoyed our second holiday at Southwaite Green - this time at Beckside to accommodate further family members. It is a luxurious, open plan, light and airy cottage, but with a warm and cosy feel provided by the easily controlled under floor heating. The bedrooms are very comfortable and all have their own beautiful en suites or bathroom. We ate in most of the time and found the kitchen extremely well equipped and easy to work in. We enjoyed eating in the dining area with its French doors on to a south facing patio overlooking stunning views. The patio is also a super place to eat or sit and relax on sunny days. Back indoors, however, there is a large cabinet for drying walking gear on wet days - so everything is catered for, including of course a really comfortable lounge to relax in at the end of the day. The site has been extensively planted with trees and shrubs. There are also picnic areas and viewing points – superb to watch the evening sun lighting up the mountains. The owner lives on the site and is always on hand if needed and happy to answer questions about her eco friendly holiday home project. Having stayed in the Windermere area in 2006 we found the Western side of the Lake Distinct much more peaceful and relaxing. Southwaite Green is in lovely surroundings and close to so many areas of outstanding natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Cockermouth, a pretty town (even after the floods), with William Wordsworth's early childhood home. It also has a supermarket for those wishing to cook at home, but there are plenty of places to eat out. The larger town of Keswick is only about a 20 minute drive away. The whole holiday experience was excellent and it was good to be able to carry on recycling our rubbish whilst away. Our only regret was that we were too warm to light the wood burning stove!

“Memorable visit” Esther's Barn was immaculately clean and comfortable . Bedrooms and en-suites were spacious with bang up to date fixtures and fittings. Underfloor heating ensured cosy toes on the frosty mornings. The cottage and its surrounding development was well worthy of its five star rating. The cottage has stunning views and there are walks on the doorstep. Outside, the development has been the subject of a massive tree planting scheme and has other interesting features including a wildlife pond and raised beds. The coast, Munster Castle and National Trust property ie. Wordsworth House and Carlise Castle are all in striking distance and worthy of a visit. We will certainly return.

OYSTER CATCHER, pet friendly, with a garden in Southerness, Ref 8279
Southerness house
- 2 bedrooms
- 1 bathroom
- sleeps 5
“Stunning Views!” Delightful little property, beautifully decorated and furnished, good idea to change white sofas to a more practical dark grey patterned as pet friendly. State of the art fitted kitchen but appliances were a little difficult to fathom, especially the newly fitted induction hob. The garden was a delight and a pleasure to sit and drink in the views as we were fortunate to have temperatures soar to 30*C and have dramatic sunsets and breathtaking sunrises. Steps to the beach were a little tricky and it is a mixture of sand and silt as it is an estuary. Apart from a long lane of these holiday homes and a handful of original buildings (including the now disused lighthouse), Southerness is basically dominated by the 2 massive family orientated caravan parks, although this property was far enough away not to get disturbed.
