“Perfect Holiday accommodation” Chris met us on arrival and was very accommodating, giving us a tour of the villa and information on the surrounding area. He even offered to personally show us the location of the best supermarkets in the local town of Banyoles. Although there was no need to rush to the shop as the fridge was already loaded with essentials like cold beer!! It was great to have inside info from Chris on the area to help find the best beaches, rock pools to swim in and places to eat. The villa is superb, mixing the bags of character you'd expect from a 700 year old farmhouse with all the mod cons of a recent refurbishment such as power showers and en suits to each bedroom. The living areas are huge as is the well equipped kitchen. There were 9 in our group (4 kids and 5 adults) and there was loads of space for us all. The space outside the villa was equally impressive with large grass areas where the kids could play and a great pool. The views were stunning with wooded mountains surrounding the villa. It is a great base to explore a beautiful part of Spain, visits to the local towns of Santa Pau and Besalu are a must. You can get to the beach in just over an hour or simply find one of the many rock pools in the region to cool off in. One particularly beautiful spot is the Pont de Llierca where you can swim and dive into the cool water under the amazing medieval bridge. There are loads of walks within the national park (Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa) which contains around 40 well preserved volcanic cones. For those into cycling, the road running from Banyoles to Olot is fantastic as it winds its way up and down the volcanic terrain. I saw many mountain bikers in the area and wish I had my mountain bike with me as well as there are many trails to follow. All in all this was a fantastic place to stay when visiting a beautiful unspoiled part of Spain, I can't wait to go back.
