“Meguro vs Greenwich Village = Meguro Win!!!” I'll start by mentioning that we stayed in 3 different places during our stay in Tokyo..1st was this place, next was the Hotel Sunroute, and last The Hyatt Regency. One for quirkiness, another for middle of the road comfort and finally one for ultimate luxury, yet by far Bruce's place was our favorite. From the convenience of strolling around a neighborhood that has the coziness of regular earthy Japan, to the ultra stylish boutiques echoing of a Greenwich Village in a less hipster more literary-cool era, Meguro, and Bruce's little apartment, had us sold! Seriously, easy access to everywhere. Counter to common beliefs wifi was a problem at both hotels - but for Bruce's he provided a pocket wifi that proved invaluable, as we went far off the beaten path from thrift stores, punk rock shows, art boutiques, to beautiful shrines. We had Tokyo wired our first 4 days mainly because of choosing Bruce's place first. He was awesome, responsive, clear, and laid back quirky (Like Del Toro's character in Basquiat). The apartment is small but cozy with all the amenities we needed, very small bathroom- with a family mart next door or an upscale 7/11 20 yards the other way, open all night. A takeout sushi mart 10secs further along across from the best noodle/dumpling/all night, cozy counter/restaurant we've been to it's called "Chinese oodle estaurant" ( we've been to many from Cambodia to Taiwan to Bali, of which we are writing from right now). There is an Italian trattoria next door as well. If you make it off this street and north, try Golden Brown (the Stranglers, right!) a uniquely smart and artful beer and burger cafe , and next door to alaska for vegan treats and coffee and design savvy intuitive owners yet still not hipster more accessible and deep house, also a 10min stroll to Binx Mexican, awesome! We will be staying at at one of Bruce's bigger places or even this one in the future. Highly recommended, if you get, you get it, if you don't you don't!? Carrillo's

About Shibuya

If you want shopping, excitement and an energetic nightlife, Shibuya should be your next vacation destination.

With hundreds of vacation rentals available on FlipKey, you'll be able to find the perfect spot in the heart of the action.

About Shibuya, Japan

Historic Shibuya was the site of a castle that the Shibuya resided in throughout the Edo period.

In 1886, the Yamanote Line was opened, and it transformed the town for the better. It’s now one of the most famous railway terminals in southwest Tokyo.

In the 1980s, Shibuya became a go-to destination for young people from around the world. And, it's still popular today!

With the Shibuya 109 shopping center and several famous stores, it’s a shoppers’ paradise. But, it’s the exciting nightlife that makes people come back for more.

This city is famous for Shibuya Crossing. It’s a scramble crossing that stops vehicles coming from all directions at the same time. This allows a huge number of pedestrians to take over the intersection all at once.

If you get separated from your friends, the a statue of Hachiko (a dog) is an ideal meeting place. But it’s likely to be rather crowded!

You may recognize the crossing. It’s been in quite a few films, including ‘Lost in Translation’, ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’ and ‘Resident Evil’ to name but a few.

What to do in Shibuya, Japan

Though mostly known for its shopping, Shibuya has a lot more to offer visitors.

Go to the Bunkamura museum and see the constantly changing displays – you'll never see the same thing twice!

Also, see the Konno Hachimangu shrine. The site is believed to have been the home of the Shibuya family themselves.

If you fancy drinks with a view, head up to the 40th floor of Bello Visto and see the entire Shinjuku skyline. But, you’ll need to book in advance for the best seats.

There are lots of food challenges around the city. Try to eat your weight in rice, pudding or even bread! If you manage it, you'll be a hero and probably put up on the wall of fame.

Once you've done that, you'll want to walk it off. So, why not go for a wander round Yoyogi Park? This beautiful green space is full of blossoming flowers, and there's the Meiji Jingu shrine there too.

Top travel tips for Shibuya, Japan

Center Gai is a busy street in the heart of Shibuya. It’s lined with stores and is said to be where many fashion trends start. In the night, it comes alive with young people heading to clubs, bars and restaurants. It’s THE place to be!

If you're looking for somewhere to drink, Nonbei Yokocho (Drunkard Alley) has rows of tiny bars and pubs for you to enjoy.

If you like shopping and don't mind crowds, Shibuya is the place to be. Book your vacation rental on FlipKey and start planning your next trip!

Shibuya Station 3 beds-mobileWiFi
Perfect Location

Bruce was the best. We had a hectic evening and were very tired and confused by the time we got to Shibuya station. He talked us through it on the phone and we were able to make it to Shinsen Station to meet him. He helped us with our luggage and explained everything quickly and thoroughly so we could get some rest. The place was perfect for our little family (2 adults and 2 children). It was minutes from food, groceries and transportation. If we ever make it back to Japan, I will definitely rent with Bruce again.see more
