“Beautiful view of the Staten Island bridge” Marina the owner a wonderful lady. Very roomy place, we had 3 adults and 6 18 yeat olds, beds for everyone. She wanted all my flight plans so she keep her day in order to meet us at the rental and showed us around and very detailed plans of the area.. Restaurants in the area, bus schedules to city . Rained the second day we were there she drove us to the grocery store and came back for us and then drove me around looking for rain gear.. So much to say. I would rent from her again. Very Great Lady...

Big family retreat at the ocean, 3-7 bedrooms

Staten Island house

7 bedrooms / 5 bathrooms / sleeps 27

“A great place to stay with friends” Marina's house is more like 3 independent apartments you can rent either on your own or for a big family , or a group of friends without a garden. But the beach is just across a large road. Rooms, beds , kitchens ,TV 's, fridges, are very large and you are just like at home with computers , Wifi ... Marina has a lot of good advices to provide : transports , restaurants , she can bring your food shopping in her car even if the supermarkets is just 5 minutes walk . There is also a mobile or phone available for internal calls which is very helpful . We did not take the card for the express bus and decided for local Transport to Manhantan which was more than an hour to go ( bus + ferry or Bus + subway ) but still quite comfortable with teenagers . May be not recommended for small children , better to take the express card which is just a bit more expensive . Quality / price is good compared to what you can find in the center of Manhanttan and when you come back to Staten Island you can have a walk on the beach close to the house and really feel like not being in the center of New York . The way with the ferry is just relaxing , in the sun in the morning , and with the evening lights on Manhantan when coming back home . I would recommend Marina' s place for people travelling from 8 to a big group . Great sunny week in New York !

“Homely Williamsburg Home” Had a great stay in this lovely place. The home owner is a great, helpful guy, who makes sure everything you need is at hand once you arrive. The bed was comfy, the kitchen is nice and big and there's a bubble bath in the bathroom! A garden this size is unique in this part of NYC, unfortunately it was winter during my stay, but I can imagine it's a great place to have breakfast, a barbecue, or to just sit and plan your sightseeing in the Big apple. I would definitely come back here!

“My experience en Kakuna´s home!” I was with my girldfriend the last June in the apartment, this being our first visit to NY, and we were very impressed by the city and the apartment, wich is only a few meters from the subway and in a wonderful town. The accessibility is very good as well as the facilities of the apartment. I recommend it 100% and Kakuna is extremely helpful, helped us a lot! Thank you very much for everything! Noelia & Marcelo

“Great Stay, Great Unit, Great Owner, Great savings!!!” I know vacation rentals in NYC are controversial, and consensus on the web seems to be: Don't, it's too risky. I'm here to say it can be done, just do your homework first. This place was way above expectations. Four adults and a child were able to stay here at less than half of what it would cost for a couple low budget hotel rooms in mid-town. The owner could not have been more friendly or responsive, we emailed & texted each other repeatedly. She was full of advice about what to do, where to eat, how to get there, etc. She made the process of booking, and checking in and out very easy. She went above and beyond, like leaving food for our arrival, or sending out our laundry as the washer was broken. It was like staying with a friend. The unit was very nice, the kitchen and bath were newly remodeled. It was roomy enough that on our last night there, we cooked dinner & had a small party with 13 people in the living room at one point! The building and street were beautiful and historic, clean, fairly quiet, and safe. Great trees! One night my wife and I sat on stoop, had a glass of wine and the only other people we saw were hustling back and forth to the subway. It was a 1/2 block to the subway, and from there, quick cheap and easy to get anywhere in Manhattan. One caveat is that not everyone will be comfortable walking around in Harlem, especially at night, though you probably need to take it block by block. On some of the other streets, we encountered some people who were loud and profane, but we never felt threatened or unsafe. That being said, if you don't want to go out to a Harlem restaurant or club at night, you can safely walk to or from the subway even late in the evening. Or take a cab. Between the low rates, the close-by subway, and eating in, the savings just piled up. We were able to do the near impossible - Manhattan on a budget!

10 Mins to NYC, Walk to PATH train-Sleeps 6

Jersey City apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Reasonably priced accomodation with easy access to NYC” Adrienne was very helpful, both before and during our stay. The accommodation was comfortable had had eveything we needed. It was spotlessly clean. The appartment is within easy walking distance of the path train straight to Manhatten. There is a great pizza restaurant nearby. We enjoyed being in a local community, and staying in Jersey City made our trip to NYC affordable!

“Great place to stay in New York” We really enjoyed our stay in this appartment. Perfect and safe location with subway station nearby. Comfortable interior and good working airconditioning. Dennis was very friendly, helpfull, and service minded. Because of circumstances we had a rental car (not recommended in New York) but we were able to park it in front of the appartment. Only one small point of criticism: providing only one towel per person is not enough. When we asked for more, Dennis reminded us that we could use the washinging machine to wash the towels but when you are in New York, you don't want to do the laundry.

“We could not have asked for a warmer welcome, such a easy place for a large group.” We stayed here in the last few days of December and early January 2015. We were two families travelling together. On our arrival we were met by Emin who could not have been more helpful or welcoming. Having answered all our questions patiently we were able to easily found our way around exploring the New York area. The house was very comfortable, had plenty of space and was very well equipped. Most importantly it was very clean. What a relief as it had all been booked entirely online. You will not be sorry if you choose to stay here. Thanks Emin for a lovely stay.

“Amazing apartment” A total of 8 of us stayed at this apartment. We are university students and not only was it really affordable but it was much better than we expected. The apartment was very clean and there is plenty of space, both for socialising and sleeping. The apartment is located very close to various subway stations and this makes it really easy to travel, around 10 or 15 minutes to Times Square. I would definitely recommend staying here and look forward to returning in the future!

“Perfect place!” Our stay was wonderful! Location of the apartment could not be better. 5-8 minutes to Manhattan ( via subway nr L ), subway station just arround the corner. Neighborhood fantastic, minutes to Bedford av with many bars, pubs and restaurants. Very close to apartment 3 or 4 great bars, even with live music. Bagelsmith for breakfast 300 m from apartment. Unfortunetetly very smal bathroom - it was no problem for us, but if someone has claustrophobia... :) If You drink much alkohol, remember that floor in the kitchen goes down a little bit - so in the morning that is floor, no side effect of great party :) Exellent vegan restaurant just across the street - actually I do not like imitation of chicken or eggs, but food is tasty, they have plenty of carrot juice and lots of clients. If I need to use one word for that apartment - perfect.

“If we visited New York again, we would definitely stay at Scott's place again!” This Apartment is located so amazingly conveniently to everything you need in New York City! First, Margaret waited for us as we were delayed learning the subway system. When we finally arrived, she was already there at the apartment. our first look around the apartment, and we knew we made the right decision. The subway stops are just a short walk away, all great restaurants are close by, coffee shops, theaters a subway stop away, everything! The apartment was wonderful! It has great character and was very clean! We enjoyed late night snacks every night with family around the dinner table. How wonderful is that! You couldn't get that in a hotel! The kitchen, although small, was very functional. even the bed was very comfortable. I have been telling everyone I know about Scott's little gem in New York City. we hope to return to New York for another fantastic vacation, and will definitely stay at Scott's apartment.

“Amazing days in Harlem” To be at Marylin house is simply amazing. She and all family treat you so well that you think your are at home in NYC. If you also have concerns about privacy it is a very good choice. You have your own space and all you need in a very organized way. Neighborhood is great. Everybody should have the opportunity to share some days and nights in the heart of Central Harlem where the people still say Good Morning and look you nicely in the face. Metro 4 block. Central Park walking 12 block and a very good way to know NYC way of life. All was perfect! And I am a hard critic for accomodation.

About Staten Island

Often an afterthought while visiting New York City, Staten Island has some delights of its own and is a good base for exploring the “Big Apple”. For all your accommodation needs in New York’s fifth borough, visit FlipKey where you will find a Staten Island vacation rental to suit all your requirements.

About Staten Island

Just separate from New Jersey and New York, Staten Island is the smallest of New York’s five boroughs in terms of population.

But what it lacks in population it makes up for in land mass: it's the 3rd largest borough.

The island was first mentioned by Italian explorer Giovanni de Verrazano in 1520 who sailed through The Narrows under Frances' flag. In 1609, Henry Hudson arrived while sailing for the Dutch who named it Staten Eylandt (literally "States Island") after their parliament the Staten-General.

Following the end of the second Anglo-Dutch War in 1667, Holland’s foothold in the New World was ceded to the English by the treaty of Breda with Staten Island now part of the English colony of New York.

You can find out all about the history on the island itself, and it's definitely worth visiting a museum or two!

What to do

While it’s possible to get to the suburb of Staten Island by driving over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the Staten Island Ferry has been making the 25-minute free journey into the city since 1906. That's the best way to see New York - it has the best views and passes the Statue of Liberty and Governor's Island.

While Staten Island has plenty to see and do in its many parks and historic towns of Richmond and Snug Harbor, the island is better used as a jumping off point for New York City.

Arriving at the Manhattan Ferry terminal, you’re only a few blocks from both Wall Street, where you can see the New York Stock Exchange in action, and Battery Park where boats depart for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Top Staten Island travel tips

Make sure you have good walking shoes as Manhattan is best explored on foot. You will see so many sights that you recognize from the cinema and television, it will be hard to decide where to stop.

Get a feel for the city by taking the hop-on-hop-off bus to navigate around the city getting off at all the spots that interest you.

Shopping, of course, is amazing on 5th Avenue where you’ll find the Rockefeller Center for ice skating and Tiffany’s for that Audrey Hepburn photo opportunity. If you are hungry grab a hotdog from a street vendor! Delicious!

Visiting NYC doesn’t come cheap, but by staying on Staten Island your money not only goes further, but allows you to eat in a non-touristy restaurant like a native New Yorker. To find the perfect Staten Island vacation rental visit FlipKey, where you’ll find dozens to choose from.

BEAUTIFUL 4BR/4BA Home, Staten Island, NY City Borough.
Great house for large group visiting NYC

Maria's Staten Island house worked great for our large group to visit NYC. Everything you would need is provided. Depending on what time you arrive at the free ferry you can be in manhattan in one hour from the house. If you have to use the parking garage and shuttle, then wait for the next ferry it may take 2 hours from the house. For a large group I would use the house again!see more
