“convenient and good value” This is a good location, with express busses one can reach the manhattan in half an hour, if ou are staying for a week express plus MTa card is perfect unlimited every mode of transportation. The house is nice as well, you can cook and make some sandwiches which would also save finances. It is perfect for small families. Altough shopping is limited, Marina took us for a grocery shopping, she even give us a ride to the metro station on the way back. The location is quite and accessible.

“Beautiful view of the Staten Island bridge” Marina the owner a wonderful lady. Very roomy place, we had 3 adults and 6 18 yeat olds, beds for everyone. She wanted all my flight plans so she keep her day in order to meet us at the rental and showed us around and very detailed plans of the area.. Restaurants in the area, bus schedules to city . Rained the second day we were there she drove us to the grocery store and came back for us and then drove me around looking for rain gear.. So much to say. I would rent from her again. Very Great Lady...

Big family retreat at the ocean, 3-7 bedrooms

Staten Island house

7 bedrooms / 5 bathrooms / sleeps 27

“A great place to stay with friends” Marina's house is more like 3 independent apartments you can rent either on your own or for a big family , or a group of friends without a garden. But the beach is just across a large road. Rooms, beds , kitchens ,TV 's, fridges, are very large and you are just like at home with computers , Wifi ... Marina has a lot of good advices to provide : transports , restaurants , she can bring your food shopping in her car even if the supermarkets is just 5 minutes walk . There is also a mobile or phone available for internal calls which is very helpful . We did not take the card for the express bus and decided for local Transport to Manhantan which was more than an hour to go ( bus + ferry or Bus + subway ) but still quite comfortable with teenagers . May be not recommended for small children , better to take the express card which is just a bit more expensive . Quality / price is good compared to what you can find in the center of Manhanttan and when you come back to Staten Island you can have a walk on the beach close to the house and really feel like not being in the center of New York . The way with the ferry is just relaxing , in the sun in the morning , and with the evening lights on Manhantan when coming back home . I would recommend Marina' s place for people travelling from 8 to a big group . Great sunny week in New York !

“Great apartment in Harlem” We had a wonderful time staying in Pierre's apartment in this fascinating part of Harlem. We were a family party of seven and the apartment was big enough to accommodate us all very easily, with room to spare. It's well appointed and comfortable - home from home really. The arrangements all worked smoothly and we found it very convenient as a base (15mins on the nearby subway to get downtown) and a real haven to return to after a day visiting the amazing galleries, museums and bars that NYC offers. On the corner of the street is the Corner Social - great for an early evening drink. and very close is the classic soul food restaurant, Sylvia's. There' s a good supermarket within easy walking distance if you want to self-cater. We're now back in York UK and missing New York already. If you love art then don't miss the Frick, MoMa and the new Whitney gallery which is at the end of the wonderful High Line elevated garden - a real treat!

About Staten Island

Often an afterthought while visiting New York City, Staten Island has some delights of its own and is a good base for exploring the “Big Apple”. For all your accommodation needs in New York’s fifth borough, visit FlipKey where you will find a Staten Island vacation rental to suit all your requirements.

About Staten Island

Just separate from New Jersey and New York, Staten Island is the smallest of New York’s five boroughs in terms of population.

But what it lacks in population it makes up for in land mass: it's the 3rd largest borough.

The island was first mentioned by Italian explorer Giovanni de Verrazano in 1520 who sailed through The Narrows under Frances' flag. In 1609, Henry Hudson arrived while sailing for the Dutch who named it Staten Eylandt (literally "States Island") after their parliament the Staten-General.

Following the end of the second Anglo-Dutch War in 1667, Holland’s foothold in the New World was ceded to the English by the treaty of Breda with Staten Island now part of the English colony of New York.

You can find out all about the history on the island itself, and it's definitely worth visiting a museum or two!

What to do

While it’s possible to get to the suburb of Staten Island by driving over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the Staten Island Ferry has been making the 25-minute free journey into the city since 1906. That's the best way to see New York - it has the best views and passes the Statue of Liberty and Governor's Island.

While Staten Island has plenty to see and do in its many parks and historic towns of Richmond and Snug Harbor, the island is better used as a jumping off point for New York City.

Arriving at the Manhattan Ferry terminal, you’re only a few blocks from both Wall Street, where you can see the New York Stock Exchange in action, and Battery Park where boats depart for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Top Staten Island travel tips

Make sure you have good walking shoes as Manhattan is best explored on foot. You will see so many sights that you recognize from the cinema and television, it will be hard to decide where to stop.

Get a feel for the city by taking the hop-on-hop-off bus to navigate around the city getting off at all the spots that interest you.

Shopping, of course, is amazing on 5th Avenue where you’ll find the Rockefeller Center for ice skating and Tiffany’s for that Audrey Hepburn photo opportunity. If you are hungry grab a hotdog from a street vendor! Delicious!

Visiting NYC doesn’t come cheap, but by staying on Staten Island your money not only goes further, but allows you to eat in a non-touristy restaurant like a native New Yorker. To find the perfect Staten Island vacation rental visit FlipKey, where you’ll find dozens to choose from.

BEAUTIFUL 4BR/4BA Home, Staten Island, NY City Borough.
Great house for large group visiting NYC

Maria's Staten Island house worked great for our large group to visit NYC. Everything you would need is provided. Depending on what time you arrive at the free ferry you can be in manhattan in one hour from the house. If you have to use the parking garage and shuttle, then wait for the next ferry it may take 2 hours from the house. For a large group I would use the house again!see more

Resort Living, 25-40 Min. Commute to Manhattan
A welcoming anti-Manhattan place to stay that's within easy reac

The apartment meets all the needs of the weary traveller to New York City - a great place to decompress after spending the day on Manhattan. The local and express buses really are just across the street. The local bus and ferry takes time, but it's so relaxing an rewarding as you pass the Status of Liberty and the approach to Manhattan. Meanwhile the Express bus can get you to Lower Manhattan in 22 minutes or so. Want to stay close to home, you've got the beach and boardwalk which is slowly recovering from Sandy. But the best of the best is Marina, who truly cares that her temporary tenants are taken care of and happy. We strongly recommend a stay with Marina.see more
Big family retreat at the ocean, 3-7 bedrooms
just a bus/ferry ride away from NYC

Home owner, Marina, very helpful with our family of 14! We were in 3 of the apartments and it was very comfortable. Easy connection of bus to ferry to see the city! New Year's Eve on the Ferry was priceless (fireworks, Statue of Liberty and the skyline)! … see more
