“Just couldn't be better!” I have just returned from a 12 day stay at Killdeer Nook. As a woman vacationing on her own this was a wonderful experience. The cabin was just right for a solo retreat. The views were fabulous! One could hike in any direction. The pond was a perfect place to sit in the evenings. The open space and quiet were beyond description. The owners, Rob and Brenda, couldn't have been nicer and more helpful! Killdeer Nook is going to become an annual tradition for me.

About Nebraska

The Midwestern state of Nebraska includes the cosmopolitan cities of Lincoln and Omaha. But it’s also home to vast expanses of unpopulated, rolling countryside and some of the most beautiful state parks in the US.

You’re sure to find your perfect vacation rental in Nebraska when you browse FlipKey’s collection of condos and cozy cabins.

About Nebraska

Once home to indigenous tribes including the Pawnee and Omaha people, Nebraska was admitted as the 37th state of the USA in 1867. Today it’s a sprawling, sparsely populated state that’s roughly divided into four regions: the Nebraska Panhandle, North Central, South Central, and Eastern Nebraska. Most visitors head straight for Metropolitan Nebraska, which includes the capital city of Lincoln, and Omaha, the state’s largest city. Visit Nebraska and you’ll also discover several charming small towns.

There's more to this Midwestern state than meets the eye. Get off Interstate 80 and you’ll uncover some of Nebraska’s rich history, from Native American culture to dinosaur remains.

Once known as ‘The Beef State’, dining on Nebraska beef at one of Omaha’s steakhouses is recommended. It may come as a surprise, but the sizable Vietnamese population in Lincoln means that the Pho and Banh Mi cuisine on offer here are truly authentic, and delicious!

What to do in Nebraska

Start your trip with a visit to the vibrant city of Lincoln, renowned for its art and nightlife. Check out the farmers’ market and galleries of the Haymarket District or the ‘Penis of the Prairie’, the aptly nicknamed 400-foot high Capitol Building. After a day exploring, you’ll enjoy dining on Vietnamese Pho and Banh Mi.

You’ll find Omaha has a number of excellent museums including the Art Deco Durham Museum and The Union Pacific Railroad Museum. The town of Bellevue is also worth exploring – it’s the oldest town in Nebraska.

Soak up some local history with a visit to Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park where you’ll see fossilized remains of three-toed horses, camels and rhinos from 12 million years ago. Or hike the Oregon Trail to see Scotts Bluff National Monument and the Oregon Trail Museum. During the summer months, you can take the shuttle bus to the bluff’s summit.

Top travel tips for Nebraska

Nebraska lies in ‘Tornado Alley’ and violent thunderstorms are common during the spring and summer months, so keep an eye on weather reports. Try to avoid driving in more rural parts of the state during the winter, when ice storms and blizzards are common.

The main airports here are Omaha and Lincoln, whilst Interstate 80 crosses the state from east to west. Renting a car remains the best way to see more of Nebraska, as many areas are sparsely populated and public transport is limited.

Native American history, delicious food, art, culture and vibrant nightlife add up to make Nebraska an undiscovered gem for your next vacation. Browse Flipkey’s fantastic range of vacation rentals today and find the perfect base for your trip.

Large Rental with Many Amenities

This is a great location to many of the key Omaha locations (about 20-25 min), such as the Zoo, Children's Museum, and airport. It is very close to a grocery store and places to eat out. We were traveling with 7 adults and 2 children under 5 y/o. There was plenty of space for all to sleep, a king BR, 2 queen BR's, 1 full BR, and a twin BR w with a trundle twin. The kitchen cooking area is large and the eating area has 1 table that seats 6 and another table that seats 4 as well there are bar stools to sit at the counters in the kitchen. The pool was an added bonus to relax in after returning from our adventures out. There were toys for our 3 y/o and 5 y/o to play with. For those traveling with small children that require a crib or high chair, the house does not have these amenities. There is plenty of room to park several cars. The house was very clean upon our arrival. It is a very lovely house in a quiet neighborhood and provided us with the family time we were seeking. Note, the owners live in this house at times versus a house that is kept strictly as a vacation rental. So you will find some of their food in the refrigerator as well as all the bedroom closets locked, so there is not a place to hang up your clothing. Since we were only there for 3 nights, this did not cause us any issues. It is just different from my experience with the many other vacation home rentals that I have done in the past. There were plenty of spices and seasonings available that made it easy if you are planning on doing a lot of cooking. The owners were easy to work with and very responsive throughout the booking process or any questions we had or any issues that came up during our stay in the house. The owners met with my daughter on her arrival to go over things in the house. It would be helpful to have this information in writing, e.g. trash vs recycling, where to find trash bags, check-out time, check-out expectations. As with any home, there are some quirks...the front door could not be locked from the outside, the freezer made extremely loud constant noise after a while. The owner responded to these issues/questions immediately. At the price point of this rental, I would have expected these type of things to have been addressed prior to our arrival.see more

Feel's like home

I stayed here last year with a couple of friends and enjoyed everything!!! My friends and I stayed for one weekend, looked gorgeous, updated and clean and was a great value - all of these reasons were 100% verified upon our visit. The house supervisor was very sweet and even made us breakfast! She stayed in a room there and didn't bother us, as a matter of fact we didn't even notice her being there except breakfast time of course :) After taking the tour of the entire place the downstairs is set up just like an apartment. (very personal) Next time I stay I will look into renting that space. The only thing I didn't like was the street the property is located has a lot of potholes but besides that ..................love the place We would most definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. A hidden gem!see more

Killdeer Nook Guest Cabin
Awesome getaway

If you are looking for an adorable cabin with lots of privacy, this place is perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed just hanging around the pond and feeding/watching all the trout. You won't be able to find a better deal than this place! Our dog would also highly recommend it! … see more
Lake Wanahoo luxury cabin!
Beautiful and spacious, yet cozy retreat

Four generations enjoyed a long weekend together at Spencer Hill. The "cabin" was beautiful and had everything we needed or wanted (really, where else would you have charcoal and lighter fluid provided for the grill?) for a comfortable stay. The town of Wahoo was low-key and delightful. We especially enjoyed the antique shop and the Wigwam Café. The owners of the cabin were wonderful to work with and made us feel very welcomed. Highly recommend!see more
