Muktuk Adventures - Bed & Breakfast / Guest Ranch

“An extraordinary humbling and enlightening experience” This was a captivating and enriching week, enormously enhanced by the wonderful affection for the dogs displayed by all members of the Muktuk staff. The fact that their welfare is paramount, even for the retired dogs, speaks volumes for the place. Visitors are encouraged to bond with the dogs, particularly those in their teams, and this builds a great team outlook and a real sense of unity with the dogs. Trust and loyalty are developed via this bonding and this leads to a wholly fulfilling sense of achievement when the teamwork kicks in on the trips. Camping out for two nights was a wonderful experience, despite the cold. The Guide was exceptional in his help but to get a full sense of enjoyment it's important to really muck in. Again, the dogs take absolute priority and their welfare has precedence over the comforts of the campers. Although I'm British, I felt this camping trip gives one a good semblance of an idea of what the original explorers went through all those years ago and added hugely to the overall Muktuk experience. Personally the most appealing element of the Muktuk experience was the way the dogs were treated. As mentioned above, their welfare is top priority and whilst the bills have to be paid, the overwhelming impression one gets is that for Frank Turner and his team, this place is a way of life and not a commercial operation. I was particularly bowled over by the way retired dogs were kept on to roam freely about the place and able to enjoy their retirement. The Vet's bills for them alone must be huge, but they are rightly allowed to enjoy themselves in retirement after years of working hard. I would encourage anyone to visit Muktuk and experience the sledding, but I would add the rider that to get the best out of this, one should be prepared to get your hands dirty and really bond with the dogs. They soak up all affection, almost without exception, and they work extremely hard on your behalf. Go for it because you won't regret it.

Muktuk Adventures - Bed & Breakfast / Guest Ranch
The spirit of the Yukon. Muktuk, a place to grow and love.

I had an absolutely amazing time at Muktuk. I loved every minute of my stay. There is so much love and care for the dogs, Frank and his wonderful staff make you feel so welcome. The main lodge is a centre for relaxation, beautiful meals (thank you to the talented chefs), converstations, music, drumming - a warm place to gather. There are cozy cabins or rooms in the lodge, great walks and views over the Takhini River. Staff and volunteers are always available to make your stay truly memorable. There are so many names to remember, but I will keep you in my heart. Loved our walk with the dogs, Manuela!! Especially my guide extraordinaire Hugo was a step ahead if not more. Tremendous care, patience, humour and guidance helped me with my dog sledding and winter camping experiences. Great respect for the dogs and the environment is felt at Muktuk. I wish Frank and Muktuk many more wonderful seasons. I am missing the dogs and everybody at Muktuk but I am planning to be back one day!!!see more
