Description
The Old Barn at Ormidale has taken us nearly three years to complete and no expense has been spared in establishing it as the most luxurious of our stable of properties. A travertine marble floor runs throughout the ground floor and offers a stunning contrast to the original exposed stone walls which feature in the kitchen and living area.
It's a stylish, contemporary holiday home, with a hot tub, a sauna, a TV room, a separate dining room, and a lovely big main lounge. The kitchen is gorgeous, featuring three ovens and a microwave and five electric rings. With use of Games Cottage (table tennis and pool tables, dart board) plus a football pitch, swimming pool (heated indoor) and a tennis court, this is a great estate to base a weekend away or a week's holiday.
Underfloor heating from an environmentally sustainable ground source heat pump provides constant heating through both floors of the property, which will accommodate up to 16 guests in total, with our maximum adult occupancy set at 12.

Response from the owner I am glad you liked the fluffy towels and robes, found the space and furnishings and fit out to a high standard and that you describe us as having a beautiful environment. I am sorry that you still found cause to criticise. Our estate managers consistently get the very highest ratings for service and attitude and approach from almost all our guests. They did explain to me that you didn't feel the same way, and we were slightly confused as to why you objected to their manner! I am sorry that their approach didn't find favour with you - most people find them extremely helpful and personable. As a self-catering house, we advertise ourselves as providing starter supplies of basics but most guests expect to bring their own coffee etc. If you were to run out we would always provide you with extras with our compliments. We always have spares of kitchen kit so if you had asked for extra utensils, serving dishes, glassware, or a milk jug (even an additional toaster or kettle) we could have supplied them there and then. Servicing, cleaning, refilling and reheating a hot tub costs us more than £100. When my staff unblocked the bathroom sick, they found it choked with vomit, and even though Pam and Norman weren't passing any judgements or comments about it, some members of your party objected when they explained that that was what had happened. A shame to find ourselves criticised, but we will continue to do the best we can for all our guests.

We had some financial demands made that we felt were entirely unreasonable and we decided not to give in to those, in the knowledge that the threatened bad publicity would appear. We say in our welcome pack that the 5mph speed limit is there for a reason, We don't list a bouncy castle. The guests in the week before and the week after this party have both given us 5 / 5...

We aspire to do better than that, of course. We don't like anybody to be disappointed.

Response from the owner This is of course a pretty disappointing review to read and we do acknowledge that we had some problems with housekeeping on the estate at about this time. The house was cleaned by professional cleaners, but they didn't get every single detail right and so we did not hit quite our usual high standards, and we apologised for that - but I still don't think the overall tenor of the review is quite fair. It certainly isnt correct to say that they received no apology. Indeed we also gave this party what we thought was quite a large refund in respect of their complaints. They then indicated that they were very disappointed that we didn't meet their request for twice that amount, so I guess we can't be surprised to read this. The hot tub water was crystal clear when the guests arrived and there were slow release chemicals in the filter system to ensure that it would stay clear. As with any swimming pool or hot tub facility, we do depend on guests not spilling things and on guests showering in advance of hot tub usage. If those rules are respected then the hot tub water that starts clean stays clean. A shame that they were disappointed, and we do accept that there were areas of imperfection in what is still in general a beautiful and well-presented holiday house with great facilities.
