Description

The Old Stable is a charming cottage with a private mature garden and a fantastic panoramic view of Lough Foyle, the North Coast and the Atlantic Ocean. The original house is over 100 years old and has been beautifully renovated in recent years. The traditional charm is preserved and modern conveniences added for comfort, includes central heating, a modern kitchen and a wood burning stove. This is an ideal holiday retreat for individuals, couples or a small family who value privacy and tranquility.

The garden is very peaceful and private, enjoy a barbecue or just take a seat outside and enjoy the magnificent view. Relax watching the boats going by or while listening to the sound of the small stream and the birds.

This is a great tour base for exploring the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula. A short (15 min) walk takes you to the Blue Flag Shroove Beach and Inish Head lighthouse, where you will find a beautiful sandy beach, with car park and toilet facilities. The beach is suitable for children, swimming activities and life guards are on duty during summer months.

The seaside villages of Greencastle and Moville offer nice restaurants, including the award winning Kealys Seafood restaurant. A friendly local pub is a 5 min walk away from the cottage and both Greencastle and Moville offer genuine Irish pubs, live music and summer festivals. Greencastle Golf Club is a beautiful 18 hole links course, visible from the house and only a 5 minute journey by car. From the house you can join the stunning Inishowen Head loop walk (8km) or from Greencastle join a beautiful shore walk to Moville (2km). Moville also offers sea kayaking and canoeing.

From April to September the Foyle car ferry service takes you from Greencastle to the scenic coast of Northern Ireland (15 mins journey) where children can enjoy an amusement park and sandy beaches. The famous Giant's Causeway and The Bushmills Distillery are approximately 1.5 hour car journey from the Old Stable. The Historic City of Derry is only a 30 min. drive away, hosting as the City of Culture 2013, including a varied program of arts and culture.

There is plenty of space for parking. We do not permit smoking in the Old Stable, we hope this consideration for others does not cause you much inconvenience.

“A lovely break”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2023

A lovely cottage with great scenery. It was very well appointed and comfortable. The views were great with lots to see and do. We were sad to leave but would certainly stay here again.

“Perfection”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2020

Just back from 4 nights in this near enough to perfect as possible cottage. So many places fail to live up to their hype and cleverly shot photographs, this one is understated. There is personal contact with the owners from the outset and throughout and a face to face greeting and introduction from the owner's friendly father. The cottage is secluded down a lane off a quiet road into Shroove, in its own large, mature and very private garden. The building is attractive and well maintained and from it you are met with a magnificent view over Lough Foyle to Magilligan. The cottage is comfortably furnished and immaculate, also well equipped with all the basics including cleaning materials and huge stocks of fuel for the turf burner. Good sized ensuite with well functioning shower, very comfortable bed. A well located, good base from which to tour the Innishowen and Fanad peninsulas and further afield. As a bonus we were lucky with the weather, but even had this not been the case we would have been happy to spend more time in the cottage and it was lovely to return there each evening. We are more than happy to recommend this cottage and will definitely be returning ourselves. Janette and Paul. Donaghadee, N. Ireland.
