Description
Buck Barn has been converted to a high standard to make your holiday go as smoothly as possible.
La Roussie is located only 1.5 km from the main route through the Dordogne allowing fast and easy access to all the sights and attractions. The Limousine and Charente areas are also close by.
We have plenty of parking and La Roussie is on a no through road so the only real traffic are tractors.
La Coquille is 5 minutes away and is a small town offering you all the facilities you would expect with bars, restaurants, fabulous butcher, wine shop, supermarket, choice of bakers, cash point, station (trains to Perigueux, Limoges and Bordeaux) , post office and pharmacy.
La Roussie is surrounded by beautiful villages that all have bars and restaurants for you to enjoy.
Not far for a lunch time visit to Brantome with a possible paddle around on the river.
For those who prefer to relax back at your base:
3 bedrooms have super king zip and link and king sized beds, these can be split down into full sized single beds on request. The 4th is a king sized double.
Each bedroom has its own en-suite shower/bathroom.
1 room is on the ground floor with a bath.
There is a fully kitted out kitchen with all the mod cons and a full dining area that will easily seat everyone.
The living space is open plan, again with plenty of comfortable seating for the whole group. This leads out to the terrace.
The grounds are all fenced, allowing you and your family the freedom of 15 acres of parkland and woods with a couple of streams, swing set, badminton net and goal post.
The heated pool is 12m x 6m with lots of games and sun loungers and parasols for all if you prefer a slower pace.
There is a poolside cabana with seating, fridge and WC so you don't have far to wander for your ice cold juice in a shady spot!
Located between the barn and pool is a large terrace with a huge dining area and 4 burner gas barbecue.
There are plenty of walking trails and they set off directly from your door.
Within a 5 minute drive you can be at the fantastic lake at Miallet which is perfect for fishing and bird watching, for those who prefer a swim and lots of action, there is espace-hermeline which is approx 15 minute drive.
La Roussie has something for everyone all year, we are in the heart of truffle and mushroom country, there are cepes, girolles and many more varieties growing on the property and we are surrounded by wonderful winter markets offering duck and goose products and of course a local truffle market, all of this washed down with a good glass of Bergerac or Bordeaux in our local restaurant makes for a wonderful afternoon or evening after a good walk or drive around.
For the historians out there, we are right in the centre of Richard the Lionheart country and he took his fatal arrow just 10 minutes up the road.
The St Jacques de Compostelle route passes right through La Coquille so you will see many pilgrims or hikers tackling this route.

“Peaceful location”
Good bedrooms and bathrooms, lovely pool, great peaceful location. However, outside pictures do not accurately show how the grounds look now and generally could do with some TLC.

“A beautiful setting and warm welcome!”
We had a fantastic week at La Roussie! Rachael was so welcoming and helpful and the property is great both inside and out. The kids loved the pool and so did the adults!!!!!

“Superb accommodation for 8 people!”
We've had a wonderful family holiday at Buck Barn this Summer. The accommodation was perfect for the 8 of us - 4 adults, 4 children (2 x 6 year olds and 2 x 4 year olds) with 4 en-suite bedrooms and a large open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The swimming pool was undoubtedly a highlight for the children, and the views from the pool over the field and woodland beyond are simply stunning. We enjoyed many lovely meals at the large outside table which is under a lovely wooden roof and so sheltered from the sun (and rain!) We had mixed weather in July and August this year, but that enabled us to explore the local area. We travelled to nearby towns of Brantome and Perigueux; went to the night market in St Yriex la Perche; cycled the short distance on very quiet roads to the nearby village of Mialet (even the 6 year olds managed the undulations!); made use of the lovely nearby 'green routes' where disused railway lines have been turned into cycle paths; walked on the foot paths that leave from right outside the front door; and of course swam! Sylvia and Rachael were very welcoming and helped make our stay very relaxing. The children enjoyed looking at the goats, donkeys and chickens.
