Additional Location Information

The location of my house "La Carmelina",named after my mother, is Montevirginio, Rome. Montevirginio is just a fraction of a small village called Canale Monterano where you can find within walking distance from La Carmelina, an old Monastery of year 1600 on the top of a very green hill.
Canale Monterano is a natural reserve where the noble Altieri family settled in the same year and built a very elegant little city. A Pope came from the Altieri family as well. The vestiges of Canale Monterano can be enjoyed by horse ( there is a horse school nearby) or by bicycle or just walking. The area is interspersed with natural hot water springs ( a sort of "al fresco roman baths"!) that let the mineral-enriched water flowing into very picturesque little ponds.
From Montevirginio you are 15 minutes by car from the Santa Severa Castle, where a wonderful beach and a Moorish Castle can be visited. Nearby you also have the house that belonged to Paul Getty Jr.. The house has been converted now into a luxury boutique hotel (La vecchia Posta) with a private museum displaying art objects collected by Mr. Getty. The area is part of a larger area where the Etruscan settled between 768-264 BC. The largest museum of Etruscan vestiges is in the nearby city of Tarquinia.
From Montevirginio you may reach Rome by car in 40 minutes and the Civitavecchia port of Rome in 20 minutes.
