About Calgary, Alberta

The history of Calgary spans at least 11,000 years.

Locals still celebrate the lives of the First Nation's people who came before them. Check out some of the museums to see exactly how the Blackfoot, Peigan and Tsuu T'ina people lived back then.

It's now a vibrant city just 80 kilometers east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. The city hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics and still has many of the arenas. Go for a look around, and maybe even try the bobsled or luge while you're there.

The winter season in Calgary is great, but there's plenty to do in the summer, too. There are great hiking trails and places to kayak, but remember to watch out for bears and other critters in those mountains!

What to do in Calgary, Alberta

Head downtown for an exciting and eclectic mix of restaurants, cultural venues and places to shop. If you're not scared of heights, take a trip up The Bow—it's the tallest office tower in Canada outside Toronto and gives you a great view of the city.

It's so close to The Rocky Mountains, it would be silly not to go up for a look around, especially in the winter season. Canada Olympic Park has some great places for skiing and snowboarding, as well as impressive jumps for you to try (if you're brave enough).

Climb aboard an ice explorer and go up to the nearby glacier. Chances are you'll never see anything like these ice formations again!

Make sure you go see an ice hockey match when you’re in town. The local team—the Calgary Flames—are hot contenders in the NHL and always put on a good show. The stadium itself has a great atmosphere, too.
