About Seoul

The history of Seoul spans back centuries – it was founded way back in 1394, and has been the capital of South Korea ever since.

The Han River runs through the city and divides it into two sections—the north side is the Old City with historic homes, ruins and temples, and the south side is the New City which has been rapidly developed to become a hi-tech business district. Both are worth seeing during your stay.

Make sure to try the local cuisine – it’s delicious, if a bit unusual. Most dishes are centered around a blend of rice, meat and vegetables. Kimchi, the national dish, is made from a mixture of fermented vegetables and served with most meals.

Practice using chopsticks before you visit, then you can eat like a true Korean!

Night owls will love Seoul. There are plenty of places to party, or you can head to the Dongdaemun district and shop all night – it’s fantastic!

Gyeongbokgung Palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Seoul. While it isn’t the original – that was destroyed in the 16th century – it’s pretty close! This one was built just over 200 years ago and attracts visitors from around the globe.

After exploring the palace and gardens, visit neighboring Bukchon Hanok village. See if you can identify what’s interesting about the roofs of the houses!

As you wander round, try some of the street food or eat in a traditional restaurant.

Visit the Jogyesa Temple in the business area of the city. It's a complete contrast to the surrounding high-rises and looks incredible. Ancient trees stand tall in the gardens making it a wonderful place to stroll around and find your inner peace.
