Description from owner

Description

Foxglove Cottage is full of character and is furnished and equipped to a high standard whilst retaining many original features. Foxglove sleeps four but we've discovered that it is a particular favourite with couples.

This cosy stone cottage is on a quiet, private lane in a small farming village on the eastern side of the Peak District. Step outside and enjoy the fabulous views towards Hardwick Hall. Try one of several recommended walks around the village – we provide guests with bespoke walks from the doorstep together with a selection of maps and guide books.

There is an open log fire – wonderful on a chilly evening - and we'll provide you with an initial supply of logs and coal free of charge. In the summer months we think you'll enjoy spending time in the private garden overlooking open fields.

You are welcome to bring one pet to stay with you in Foxglove Cottage.

Alton is a small and welcoming farming village of around thirty stone cottages. A short stroll of less than half a mile takes you to the Fabrick Rock – also known as the Ashover Rock. This is 299 metres above sea level and, on clear days, offers spectacular views of Derbyshire and across five other counties: Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. Look for the stone steps carved into the hillside next to it and follow the public footpath to Ashover. Why not take a picnic and just enjoy the views. Alton is too small for a pub or a shop but several can be found in Ashover a mile away by road but closer if you go on foot cross-country following one of several footpaths down the hill. Ashover is frequently described as one of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire and it hosts a famous traditional country show on the 2nd Wednesday in August every year. Chesterfield is 5 miles from here and is famous for its outdoor market and for the ‘Crooked Spire’ church of St Mary and All Saints, built in the 13th century.

Further details

Bookings are made directly with the owners. Choose which dates you want then request a quote or send an enquiry. We'll get back to you quickly - within 1 hour is our target.

Weekly bookings generally run from Saturday to Saturday during July and August. Weekend short breaks of three nights usually run from Friday to Monday. We ask for a deposit on booking with the balance six weeks before your holiday starts.

It is always worth contacting us if your requirements are different from this, particularly for late bookings or during the winter. We try to be as flexible as possible about start dates. If you would like any other information about Foxglove Cottage or the surrounding area please get in touch - we will be happy to help you arrange the perfect holiday or short break.

We place a high priority on cleanliness and presentation – before you arrive the cottage will have been thoroughly cleaned and prepared for you. If you need any assistance during your stay there will be someone available to help you nearby. On the other hand if you'd prefer to be left alone to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our lovely area then you'll also find this an ideal place to spend your holiday.

Further details indoors

One pet only please. Please note that the garden immediately adjacent to the front of the cottage isn't enclosed but there is a small enclosed area outside the back door.

There is a cosy sitting room and a well-equipped dining kitchen downstairs. Upstairs are two good-sized bedrooms - one double and one twin - and a bathroom with WC, hand basin and electric shower over the bath.

The cottage has its own private garden with barbecue and furniture for those lazy summer days. There is parking for two cars visiting Foxglove Cottage.

Free WiFi. Travel cot (suitable for babies up to 2 years old) on request when booking.

Alton, Derbyshire. Lovely little holiday cottage with fantastic views. Everything we needed was provided and it was nice to settle down of an evening with the fire going. Took trips into Bakewell, Matlock and Chatsworth. Kids loved it.
