Description from owner

Description

France is in lock down. The government will review travel restrictions on the 2nd June.

Gite Noisette (Hazelnut) is in the barn at ROUFFIAGUET. We are in the Dordogne, near the borders of the Haute Vienne and Correze. ROUFFIAGUET is ideally placed for exploring the many places of interest in the locality, be they archaeology sites, historic chateaux, caves, surprising gardens, canoeing, walking, cycling, fishing, or simply picturesque villages and countryside to chill out and unwind in.

Situated in gently rolling countryside adjacent to the Lac de Rouffiac and secluded in 4 hectares of woodland and meadows, ROUFFIAGUET offers all the tranquillity needed for a restful holiday and an ideal base from which to explore or simply soak up the sun and relax. The pool (late June, July, August early September) is 12m x 5m x 1.4 so plenty of space to exercise or float around after a days sight seeing! The pool is shared with 2 other couples, if we are full but seldom is everyone there at the same time.

The lake is at the bottom of the lane. It is 5.5km to walk round. It has a sandy beach and a restaurant (July/Aug). We have 2 bikes, if you fancy cycling round it! There is table tennis and darts in the barn, if you want to escape the sun. There are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding villages and the local town. The market town of St Yrieix is 9 miles north with a delightful medieval centre. Larger market towns are Limoges to the north, Brive to the south east, south west is Perigueux and Sarlat to the south. Combining history, picturesque beauty and thriving markets are the towns of Montignac and Brantome approximately 45 minutes by car.

The region immediately around ROUFFIAGUET is known for it's cattle, apple orchards, chestnut and walnut plantations and the Perigordine gourmet delights of foie gras and canard. You could stay for 2 weeks and still not see all there is in the area so we hope you will be back for more! Ideal for young couples or empty nesters! We are 4 miles from the wedding venue of Chateau La Durantie in the village of Lanouaille, so an ideal place to stay if you are attending a wedding there. Wedding guests often extend their visit to a week's holiday either side of the wedding. We can give you a lift to Durantie for 5€ per trip (not after midnight). Another local wedding venue is Domaine d' Essendieras, Excideuil.

We expect you to leave the gîte clean for our next guests but if you don't want the hassle, we will clean it for you for 30€.
