“Wow, Wow, Wow.”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

My cousin emailed me a link to this villa in October and said, "Hey, how about we go to Greece before Tuscany?" (We were planning a week in Tuscany for my sister's 50th birthday). And we thought, why not? Only later (after we were hurtling down tiny roads from the airport to the villa) did we realize how little research we'd actually done. Could have been a disaster. Definitely was not. First, Yiannis, who owns/manages the villa, was fantastic every step of the way. Completely responsive on email, gave our taxi driver directions to the villa, met us there, showed us all around. When I emailed him the first morning and said we needed blankets, they were in the villa when we got back from the beach. He turned up a couple of days later because he was worried about how we'd get to the airport with all our luggage and he arranged to meet us with another person to drive us all in two cars, then return our rental car. And he connected me with his friend to get the rental car -- far less expensive than what my travel agent was quoting. He even arranged for his friend to deliver the car a day early to the villa when we realized we'd need a car immediately. Which is an impt point: You need a car. The villa is at the top of a very steep hill; there is a fabulous beach at the bottom and three really great restaurants. But if you want to get to the store (about 5 mins away in the village of Ana Mera) you need a car. You could take the bus into Chora, the main village on the other side of the island, but I think it only comes to the beach 2x a day. If you want to be in the midst of the partying, stay in Chora. If you want to be in a quiet, beautiful, place, with what we think is one of the nicest beaches on the island (Kalo Livadi) stay here. The villa itself is exactly as it looks in the pictures. Very simple, clean, perfect for what you need. The second bedroom upstairs is very small, and the bathroom is tiny (the entire room is the shower), so we shared the downstairs shower with my cousin and her husband. No problem at all. The beds are comfortable (ask for blankets and maybe extra pillows). The patios outside the main living space and the upstairs bedroom are unbelievable, and where we spent all our time when we weren't at the beach. The kitchen is adequate. . . we mainly just had breakfast in the morning and snacks. Ate lunch and dinners out. But everything works fine and the most important accoutrements -- a wine opener and a coffee maker -- are both there. :-) Our favorite restaurant in Kalo Livadi was Nice and Easy, a locavore, farm to table restaurant, although we liked all three. We also ate in Ana Mera twice at one of the restaurants on the square; can't remember the name but it's been there since the 1950s. Eat there; fabulous food (and meat, when you get tired of all the incredible fish). Anyway, we would absolutely stay there again, or anywhere else that Yianis manages. It was a perfect, perfect, perfect week.

Response from the owner Thank you so much. I always make my best effort to satisfy my customers.
