Description

Just 4 miles from Bude's beaches and its many traditional seaside attractions, these very spacious and unusual, colonial-style holiday properties each have their own garden and command wonderful views across the countryside towards Widemouth Bay and the sea.

The setting on the main Holsworthy to Bude road is very convenient for exploring this delightful corner of North Cornwall. As well as shops, inns, restaurants and its Historical and Folk Museum, Bude has three large sandy beaches popular with surfers (with lifeguard patrol in summer), one with a very large sea-water swimming-pool. Its sports facilities include a superb 18-hole golf course, tennis and squash courts, Splash leisure centre and ten pin bowling. Delightful walking can be found nearby on the picturesque North Cornwall Coastal Footpath, and also along the tow-path of Bude's canal - 2½ miles of quiet level walking of special interest to wildlife and bird life lovers, starting less than half a mile from the property. The Eden Project is an hour's drive away and the fishing village of Port Isaac (home of the Doc Marten TV series) is less than half an hour away.

“Good house for large group.”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2020

The location is good - easy access to Bude beaches and many others. Lovely view from house. Large garden with swings for children. Large rambling house - not posh or ultra modern - so easy for lots of children. 2 lounges so they can do their own thing! Details need updating - the boys were disappointed there was no table tennis table as advertised!

“Great for Groups”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2020

19 people all stayed at Thurlibeer House over New Year for a week and all had a great time. The house has plenty of space and caters well for large groups. Only a few miles from the sea and beach by car to Bude which is a lovely little town. The owner Chris returned my enquiries promptly and always seemed happy to help. We would definitely return to this property.

Response from the owner We believe that this is as unfair and incorrect review in several respects: 1. The guests arrived 45 minutes before the permitted time of 3pm (2.15pm). As this is a large house, the cleaning generally takes place right up to 3pm. The guests didn't want to leave and come back at 3, or to wait in their cars, so we let them into the garden, where the lawns were still being mowed. 2. The guests specifically told us that they didn't mind the workman completing the external painting while they were there. If they had said they minded we would have completed the painting later, which we offered. The work is now completed and the house is looking fresh, clean and tidy. 3. The house was well aired before these guests arrived and well cleaned, we generally have very positive remarks about cleanliness. The guests did not mention or show us any issues regarding cleanliness. 4. The guests mentioned the problem with he dishwasher, and we immediately gave them a solution for cleansing and unblocking dishwashers. Several days later the guests told us that the problem had re-occurred, but that they didn't need the dishwasher anyway and were coping fine without it. We therefore waited a couple of days till the guests departure before replacing the dishwasher to avoid disturbing them. There is now a new dishwasher in the property, which works very well. We would have been very happy to change the dishwasher immediately if the guests hadn't said they didn't require it. 5. The issue with the wifi could easily and immediately have been resolved if the guests had informed us of the problem. 6. There is a small lane beside the property which leads down to a bridleway and connects with footpaths to Marhamchurch and on to Bude or Widemouth Bay. It is not necessary to go along the main road to access it. In addition, the Planekeepers Path along the old canal to Bude starts at the layby a few hundred metres from the property, so there are in fact many opportunities for walking either directly from the property or from very nearby. We are always happy to give directions to these if guests need any assistance.
