“Romance and Flowers”
A beautiful villa. Away from the busy streets of Sanur but within easy walking distance of the beach, shops and restaurants. This home has everything. A sparkling pool, extremely comfortable sitting areas and bedrooms and wonderful staff. The gardens are amazing and so magical at night. It proved a perfect setting for our daughters boyfriend to propose marriage to her and so will stay in our hearts forever. We really cannot recommend this property enough and Shelley the owner is such a star and was able to help us with our booking. A huge Thankyou to the whole staff, not forgetting Bobby the cute dog who used to curl up on the sofa for a cuddle. We would love to return very soon for another slice of paradise.
Response from the owner How very lovely to get your comments. I'm so happy that the proposal went beautifully.. .very special for us, too! Our first proposal. Though, happily, not the first romance to be made stronger.. tis' that kind of place... Now.. a word about the dog. On the sofa, you say?? Really!! (hah.. just kidding. He IS irresistible, but don't encourage others to spoil him...) Do come again!
“A Perfect Dream”
This is with out a doubt the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. Every detail to perfection, from the bedrooms and bathrooms to the living area and garden. Every day I noticed a new statue in the garden and discovered a new bird (or frog) call. Incredibly relaxing. I actually barely left the villa even though we were in the heart of Sanur with the beach and restaurants just around the corner. I was just enjoying myself too much and had to read or snooze on every different comfortable couch, in between swimming of course. I highly recommend staying here if you want to spoil yourself. Kormang will make you feel very welcome (and feed you delicious food).
Response from the owner I know exactly what you mean about feeling happy to stay in! It is magical.. and I really love the fact you 'tried out' all the sleeping/resting/dreaming spots.. Do come and stay again... so happy you could be there... Warm best, Shelley
“What a magical place to stay!”
From the moment you enter Villa Sekala a day feels like a week, and a week spent there feels as though you've relaxed for a month! The garden, the pool, the rooms, the decorative touches.... all is designed to help you feel surrounded by beauty and serenity. With an easy walk to beach and numerous restaurants or warungs, we spent a magical two weeks there and never wanted to leave! Komang, the villa manager, prepares a delicious breakfast served to you every day overlooking the beautiful garden. Don't miss her pancakes! Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very well looked after. Don't miss out - experience it for yourself! Anna, Russ, Miss 6 and Mr 5.
Response from the owner I'm so thrilled you were able to stay.. and I know that the Komang family loved having you there. Thanks for taking the time to review it and I'm so happy the Bali stay was so good. You're always welcome.. and Sam and Mr 5.. .well, that's the start of a lifelong friendship we hope!! Warm best... Shelley
“Feeling of space and tranquility”
Gorgeous, one-of-a-kind villa is filled with art and nifty little places to hang out. Very airy, refreshing, and private. I loved staying in a bedroom that had oodles of big, open shelf space (not so easy to find in Bali villas). Great mosaic bathroom just for myself in one part of my large room, similar to an ensuite setup. Kitchen is big enough to allow 3 cooks to work together without colliding! It's nicely decorated in Greek blue and white. And the pool is fine for laps. Massive entertainment space (rain or shine, the open air, canopied salon is spacious and bright). High ceilings throughout, and good lighting everywhere. Very quiet, safe neighborhood, garden with big fish pond and birdsong make this utterly tranquil. One minute drive to beach (or a six minute stroll down a tree-lined lane).Excellent restaurants of Sanur are a short drive away. Thankfully set in a totally residential (peaceful) part of the upscale town.
Response from the owner Thanks, Dorrie. What's so delightful about your review, besides the very welcome and lovely comments, is that you really got the feel of this special place. And that you appreciate the artistic touches that enchant but don't overwhelm... I'm thrilled. Do come and see us again.
“the perfect holiday”
This was a perfect holiday. In February 2014 we, 3 adult women friends, were lucky enough to discover Villa Sekala in beautiful Sanur. From the first moment that we entered the villa and then on subsequent daily returns, it was our palace in Bali. This was my 3rd trip to Bali and this is now the place to which I will always return. Lovingly maintained by the indefatigable Komang and her husband as well as an assistant, our needs and desires were catered to with seemingly little effort. The daily breakfasts were a healthy and hearty way to start the day and on request Komang also prepared a wonderful evening meal. She and her husband also called Komang, son Sam and dog Bobby, would join us occasionally for a conversation which was always informative and delightful. Apart from the beauty of the villa and the comforts it provided it also offered a great way to learn about the Balinese way of life from Komang and her family. The villa is a short walk to beaches and shops, and it is easy to catch taxis to anywhere. For our day trips or half day trips Komang organised a driver. Everything seemed so easy - this was indeed the perfect holiday!
Response from the owner It's really great to hear that you had such a wonderful time. I know that Komang (and Komang) enjoyed meeting you all and am sure will be delighted to welcome you back. She was particularly thrilled you liked the meal she made and is building her repertoire (as we speak!). We try to make it that mix... being looked after without intrusion. And yes, I think it's beautifully located (biased? me?). Come back again.
“A magical boutique hideout...”
I stayed at villa Sekala for the second time this year. It is a very magical place, especially at night. A huge master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, a pool with perfect bathtub-temparature water, and probably the kindest house staff you could wish for. There are many tasteful details to discover in the garden and around the verandah, which gives the place a very distinct personality. Highly recommend.
Response from the owner We were really happy to greet you again. It's always nice to hear that our guests enjoy their stay... so thank you for posting your comments. The lovely thing about the villa's personality is, as you say, that it's distinct and interesting yet I know that it's not too distracting — guests feel at ease there! Plenty of space to do what you'd like...which could well be to lie by the pool and gaze at the sky or read or swim...or get energised to go exploring Sanur surrounds. Do come again! Warm best Shelley
“What a delight”
We were a group of 4 women, myself, the mother of my son in law and two of my daughters. We loved our stay at Villa Sekala and were blown away when we walked through the door into the garden, the villa is so spacious and we loved the décor although the design of the chairs was more comfortable on the eye than it was to lounge on. The bedrooms were also spacious and comfortable and I loved the gentle curves of the walls, so feminine in design Komang was such a delight, unobtrusive as he moved about the villa seeing to our needs and the needs of running the household. He was so very helpful in every way, providing information, transport (very good drivers by the way) and being ever so mindful of our safety. He is also very open to suggestions regarding places he can recommend to future clients. If you don't mind a dog keeping you company then Bobby will stay with you as he did with us or he will stay with Komang and his family in his quarters. I was lucky to be the early riser of the group and spent each morning sipping tea while sitting in the garden, or on the step overlooking the pond. Komang would come through the gate at 7.30 laden with fruit and bread from his morning market trip, and head for the kitchen to prepare our breakfast. Each morning I invited Komang to join me and we would talk for a half hour or so, I called these conversations my soul food for the day. Equally, had I required privacy that would have been respected. The Villa isn't in the busy end of Sanur, it is at the bottom end just past the Mercure, very quiet and private so be prepared for long walks or hire bikes, or ask Komang to arrange transport. We often chose to walk much to my daughters horror, she confessed that if she wanted this much exercise she would have joined a gym, we still laugh at her for that. I felt very 'at home' and welcome here. I have found it difficult to just speak of the villa without being personal because that's how it was for us.
Response from the owner Kerry... I am truly delighted that you so loved your stay. And thank you for your beautiful description of your time at Villa Sekala. I know that wonderful early mornimg time myself, as well as the lovely chats and also the joy of sitting quietly and drinking in the day... I hope you get the chance to visit again!
“Heaven on Bali”
We are a danish fam. 8 persons, and we enjoyed so much to stay in Villa Sekala. This Villa have it all, nice rooms, lovely garden and most of all the kindest staff. We felt so welcommed, supported and guided. No problems, only good vipes and peacefullness. We did`nt want to leave and hope to return again.
Response from the owner Annette, I hope you return too! I'm so glad you came to stay (well, stayed under the care of the wonderful Komang, really!) and that you had a great time. Bali is calling... for your next visit. Warm regards, Shelley
stayed at the villa for 12 days ,dont think we will ever stay in a hotel again .excellent.

The villa is magical, the gardens are a treat and our family had a fantastic holiday. Thank you to Shelley and Komang for making our holiday such a memorable one. Expect to hear from us again soon for our next booking!
