A stay at Casa Tartaruga gives you the best of both worlds in a haven of peace and tranquility utilising solar energy and natural spring water. Accessible only by boat you are promised the luxury of contemporary accommodation and adventure for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. Be charmed by the local activities - children coming by boat to the tiny school on the beach, local fisherman sorting their catch and the endless variety of maritime life passing by all against the magnificent backdrop of the Bay of Paraty and the Atlantic rainforest covered mountains beyond, enhanced in the evening by spectacular sunsets from the west facing decks. Eat al-fresco under the trees. Observe abundant wildlife and exotic plants and trees from the extensive private gardens which lead down to the sea. Look out for dolphins and our resident turtle, Tartaruga.


The historic port of Paraty lies between Sao Paulo (330km) and Rio de Janeiro (236 km), a 4 to 6 hour journey depending on your mode of transport. The town offers excellent facilities for shopping, restaurants and further excursions to islands, fantastic beaches, and activities such as fishing, diving and trekking and hosts numerous festivals, including Jazz, Food, and Film, the best known being the International Literary Festival (FLIP).

The house is located at Bare beach, home to a small, friendly local community with Paraty only 10 minutes away by fast boat. Enjoy beach badminton, volley ball, petanque, or just swim in the clear, calm waters where you will often have the beach to yourselves.

Beautifully appointed, the Main House has open plan living with huge windows leading onto the extensive main deck from where you can entertain or simply relax and enjoy the stunning views.

Fish, swim or dive from your own private dock, (swimming ladder, fresh water shower, sink) or just enjoy the sunloungers on the large deck and watch the world go by.

Walk along coastal paths to idyllic beaches or arrange a trip with our neighbouring boatmen to explore the many beaches and islands in the bay, many offering superb regional seafood dishes.


Accommodating 2 to 8 people over 3 buildings, all rooms have sea views and queen size beds, en-suite bathrooms with powerful showers, ceiling fans and mosquito netted windows.

Main House - master en-suite with panoramic views leading onto deck, with dressing room and large bathroom with twin basins and showers.

Stone House - 2 large double en-suite bedrooms, with sea views.

Fishermans House - self-contained house with double en-suite bedroom, separate kitchen/living room with 2 single beds and leading onto balcony, all with sea views.

The layout of the property is such that it suits a couple for a special occasion such as a honeymoon or larger parties of six or up to eight, having large open private spaces, with indoor and outdoor seating and tables and barbeque.

Although designed for self catering a cook can be provided for breakfasts or for a full catering service if preferred - please enquire for availability.

We arrange transport to and from the house at the beginning and end of your stay, and additional transport is easily arranged through our Manager.
