“A wonderful mountain village experience”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2010

Although it took some time to get there (we travelled from ayutthaya by nighttrain to Phrae) it was all worth the effort. We loved the small scale of the location and the friendliness and care of the staff. We were very lucky to meet another Dutch family with two children of the same age there and spent three lovely days and evenings together, going on well organised trips in the neighbourhood and enjoying simple but delicious meals together. Especially the trip into the jungle and the fishing and cooking there was an experience our children will not easily forget. The bungalows are simple but well equiped, although the beds are a bit hard in our opinion. All in all we had an unforgettable mountain village experience, which we can recommend wholeheartedly.

“in nature”

Everthing was interesting.Food was good.massages were good. We were really living in Thailand, not the way normal tourists would do.,Not to be missed!

“A taste of traditional Thailand in a beautful mountain setting”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2010

I have a long association with Thailand and Dwaila, the owner of Punjen Hide-away. I invited friends from New York to join me on an adventure in Northern Thailand, and thought Dwaila's place would be perfect. We all loved it -- the tranquility, the jungle walk and jungle food, the delicious food at the restaurant for guests, the swimming pool for happy hour and the massages by local women. The highlight of the three days was the village tour by pony cart, where we participated in transplanting rice, saw all the local fruits and vegetables, and learned about rice milling, hand looms and basket-weaving and many other local activities in the Karen village. The whole experience was similar to those I had in Thailand more than 30 years ago. Dwaila has successfully involved people in the village in this community-based eco-tourism effort.

“Relaxing, good food, excellent service and hospitality”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2010

Hard to believe that there's a place like this in this area of town. Very comfortable, relaxing. Solar system is used to make hot water. We could tell that the owners tried to keep everythings as natural as possible but yet comfortable. The pool and the gazebo are nice, we had our moning coffees and breakfast there. We also enjoyed the foods. Everybody there's so friendly. The owners made sure that everyone of us had a nice stay. We will go back there again for sure!

“Wonderful family vacation”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2010

This was the highlight of our trip to Thailand, even more than riding the elephants for our kids. The place is so open and the forest trek to forage and make our own food in the bamboo was really cool. Of course, riding to a school in a pony cart and seeing the Thai kids try out their English on us really opened my kids eyes. This is the only place we've found that gave us a chance to see Thai rural life close up. Great food too!

“Total privacy in a natural setting”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2010

Settled in Chiang Mai we have been occasional visitors at Pun Yen resort and we keep going back. The creature comforts are well taken care of. The staff are very friendly and helpful. But what we appreciate most is the peacefulness of the place. The owner has deliberately limited construction to three bungalows well set apart from each other. This guarantees utmost relaxation and privacy. If that is what you like, you can't go wrong with Pun Yen.

“Tucked away and off the beaten track”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2010

This was the perfect place to spend some time with the family: no distractions but plenty of things to do together. I can imagine that this is especially fun for small children (there's ponies!!!). It was also an ideal place to just unwind, relax and enjoy the greenery. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit!

“wonderful family short countryside break”

Reviewed 24 May 2010

My family had the delight of a short stay at Punjen Hideaway We all had such a wonderful time there, we really were surprised at the great location and excellent staff service. The accomodation and tours etc are good/great and the children really loved the jungle tour, and of course the swimming pool was appreciated by all of us excellent place to stay, would gladly stay again and personally recomend it. Travel there is easy, only 2.5 hour drive from Chiang Mai and easily accessed by train and coach links,The local Train station is only 40 minute drive away and pick ups are of course available etc
