Description from manager

Description

The cottage has so much charm and character that most people do not want to leave!

Converted from 2 adjacent single-storey farm buildings the cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and is ideal for small families or couples and the private south-facing patio, complete with a charcoal BBQ is a great place to relax and unwind with a glass of wine.

On our doorstep are The JFK Arboretum and JFK Ancestral Home. "Warren Farm" is located on The Emigrant Trail, a sign-posted route which links New Ross with The J F Kennedy Ancestral Home and The JFK Arboretum/Forest Park. We are in easy reach of lots of gorgeous sandy beaches and little fishing harbours on the Hook Peninsula. (Hook Lighthouse was voted "the flashiest lighthouse in the world" by Lonely Planet!) There is also a wealth of heritage in the area and historic abbeys & castles, including Loftus Hall a 'haunted' mansion offering visitor tours!

In New Ross, 10 Km (6 miles), the Dunbrody Visitor Famine Ship is a very popular tourist attraction and everyone enjoys the Ship's Visitor Experience Tour, the Hall of Fame and the Emigrant Flame. The nearby Ros Tapestries depict the Norman history of the New Ross area in a dozen large hand-stitched panels in vibrant design and colour.

For salmon and trout fishing we are close to the beautiful Three Sister Rivers, the Barrow, Nore and Suir. Nearby Oakland's Lake is a popular coarse fishing lake located between Warren Farm and New Ross. Deep sea fishing and whale & dolphin watching are available from Duncannon and Kilmore Quay, and at Dunmore East, and most water sports are available in the area from diving to kite-surfing.

Golfers are well catered for in this area, from championship courses like Mount Juliet, North of New Ross, to courses at New Ross, Waterford Castle and Rosslare and many many more, and there are also Pitch & Putt and Par 3 courses.

For walkers there are lovely walks at the JFK Arboretum/Forest Park, Tintern Abbey, Carraigbyrne Hill, along the Coastal Path, and riverside/canal walks at Inistioge and St. Mullins. The Irish National Heritage Park has attractive walks through woodland and through history with depictions of ancient settlements covering 9000 years from pre-history to Norman times.

Horse riding is available locally, as are visitor farms and quad biking, and there is a popular angling lake and pitch and putt nearby, and there are lots of beautiful gardens to visit, the closest being Kilmokea Gardens.

The Viking towns of Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny are within 40 Km (25 miles) of Warren Farm, each of which has a long and varied history and each offering a wide variety local crafts, including Waterford Crystal and Kilkenny Design Workshops, with architecture, art, shops and foods reflecting the various Norse, Norman and English influences absorbed over many centuries.

Many guests take day trips across the river by car ferry and continuing on to explore the fabulous Waterford coastline to Cork, perhaps visiting the Titanic Experience at Cobh, Fota Island Wildlife park or Jameson Whiskey Distillery. Other wonderful day trips can include the Comeragh Mountains, The Rock of Cashel and Lismore Castle in the neighbouring county of Tipperary.

Dublin and Cork are 2 hours away and Shannon Airport is 3+ hours driving, using the much-improved road network of recent years.

Horseshoe Cottage is located in a larger delightful courtyard garden at Warren Farm which is shared with Doyle's Cottage, Dairy Cottage and Coach House. We have been careful to give each cottage its own private area.

Located in a beautiful gardens setting with lovely views of the rich, rolling farmland beyond, the cottages at Warren Farm provide a perfect base for exploring the treasures of the South East of Ireland!

“Lovely cottage in a beautiful seeting”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2012

This was a lovely warm cottage with all modern conveniences. The owners were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. There was all required shops within a short drive, but a car would be essential. The cottage does not feel isolated, but it did feel private. The local amenities such as JFK arbotoreum were a lovely relaxing way to spend some time.
