Description

Set in a small hamlet 3 km from the village of Varaignes, with its shops and restaurants, Chez Marot is a very comfortable light and atmospheric one bedroom holiday home with a small garden, 2 terraces, stunning views and ample free parking with garage space for cycles and motorcycles.

There is a fully fitted kitchen/diner, a living room with a wood burning stove and TV with UK (Sky), French and German (TNT) channels. Free wifi is available throughout. The spacious en-suite bedroom leads on to a private rear terrace with table & chairs, BBQ and sunloungers.

There is also a small utility room with additional W.C and washing machine.

Discover Brantome with its stunning abbey and an 11th century bell tower, canoeing and Friday market, only 40 minutes away. The lake and beach at St Estephe is 20 minutes away and the nearest city, Angouleme, can be reached in just 45 minutes.

This all makes for a relaxing break in the peace and quiet of the Dordogne countryside, with its quiet lanes ideal for walking and cycling.

“Amazing away from it all comfort and tranquility.”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2016

We had already been sold on this superb property by the photos and description and on arrival we were even further impressed. Although the temperature was around 37 degrees the interior of our cottage was cool and welcoming. Greeted by our wonderful host Bobby, he proceeded to give us a quick tour and provide us with some info on the area. The very thoughtful provision of a bottle of wine was also much appreciated. A spacious kitchen leads into a comfy lounge area with the large bedroom at the rear of the property. This in turn opens onto lovely secluded patio area with a selection of furniture and shrubs. We spent many an hour here enjoying the amazing weather in a mood of peace and tranquility. The surrounding countryside of the National Park is quite beautiful, very green and lush with very pretty villages around almost every corner. We were most surprised at how little traffic we encountered no matter where we ventured. A very impressive market is held weekly in nearby Piegut Pluviers and a special mention should go to the absolutely superb food available at the Bar Du Centre in close by Javerlhac., We became regulars over the course of our stay. Bobby has an amazing cottage nestled in wonderful countryside. Who could really want for more?

“Hidden gem in idyllic setting”

Reviewed 31 May 2013

Attempt number 2 to write this. We stumbled upon this little gem of a cottage by accident when looking for a base near Varaignes. The cottage is lovely, tastefully decorated and very inviting. The views from the front go on forever across one of the most picturesque parts of France, if not the world. Easy access to lakes, cafes, restaurants and an endless list of events and activities. Curl up by the fireplace and dream the worlds troubles away. Lynda and Bobby, the owners, couldn't be any nicer. They were extremely kind and always willing to help when asked. All this with our every intruding. I can't recommend this cottage highly enough. If you're lucky, you might even meet Wilber, AKA Soft Kitty.
