Description from owner

Description

Entirely renovated in August 2014, the 4 star rated Loge sleeps 6-8 people: with 3 large double-bedrooms, a cot and a sofa-bed in the lounge. An additional travel cot is available on request.

It is spacious, light and modern, with all commodities you need for a comfortable stay, including Wi-Fi access.

You can enjoy the beautiful mountain views from a private terrace and garden, or take a stroll in the large château grounds.

Pouech is a quiet hamlet situated 10 minutes from St Girons, the main local town with plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés and a bustling farmers' market on Saturday mornings.

Ample parking on the property, a private terrace, many walks & cycling tracks in the vicinity, plenty of activities nearby including:

- Outdoor and adventure- skiing, mountain walks, peak walks (incl. Mont Valier: 2,838 m / 9,314 ft height), bike rides, gliding, climbing, via ferrata, caving, water rafting, kayaking, canyoning, high-ropes parcours, parapenting, etc.

- History- Medieval Castles and Churches, the picturesque cities of Foix and Mirepoix.

- Food- many local cheeses, honey, beer, wine, ice-cream and other produces.

- Children activities- Animal parks, Prehistoric Park, local outdoor Swimming pools, etc

- Relaxation- Spa in Salies de Salat and Aulus-les-Bains.

- Sports- Golf, Tennis, Horse-riding, Cycling (Tour de France stages: Col de la Core or Col d'Aspet; or off-road with many mountain bike tracks).

Discover Ariège, this secret part of France in the Pyrénées National Park, 1h15 drive from Toulouse. Pouech is a hamlet, part of the Moulis commune, with easy access to St Girons, often featured as a Tour de France stage.

The Loge is situated in the grounds of our home, the Château de Pouech, which we renovated between 2007 and 2009. It dates back to 1500, although it was built to its current shape in the 18th century.

A quiet place to relax, with total tranquillity (baa the odd roaming sheep!), or if you feel more active, stroll along the river taking in the peaceful valley with its many farmers and cheese shops. And if you want to challenge yourself, there are many adventure activities nearby on land, water or in the air!

Getting around

Best to have a car or mountain bikes to get around as public transport is patchy. Hitch hiking also works well here as everyone is very friendly. You can walk/hike direct from the house for some small loops and child-suitable walks to bathe in the river.

Interaction with guest

We live on site in the chateau and the gite is situated in the gatehouse/lodge. You have complete privacy including a private lawn and terrace/bbq. Children can use the slide/swings, trampoline and indoor games room. There is a 12 hectare park to explore with a cabin and a treehouse.

“Enjoy a castle life hosted by Pete and Dalida in Ariège”

Reviewed 19 Oct 2014

We enjoyed very much staying in the Loge (Custodian house ?) of the castle of our host, in a beautiful brand newly fixed 3 bedrooms + living room/kitchen in this custodian building near the main castle. Bright place, confortable, in a beautiful environment facing south (Spain !). Pete and Dalida are very enjoyable hosts totally bi-cultural but now well established in the local community. Let them tip you on what to enjoy around. A must if you drive around there.

“The most beautiful setting you could imagine”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2014

Set in the grounds of a fairy-tale chateau, this gite is stunning. The interior is pretty special too, all beautifully renovated by the owners to a very high standard. The owners are truly delightful and will make you feel very welcome indeed. I cannot recommend this enough for a magical, relaxing 'get away from it all' holiday. You are also right on the edge of the Pyrenees, great for hiking, skiing, etc. and there is a great parasailing place just down the road - an amazing way to see the beautiful landscape from above.
